Doki Doki Morning isn't just an early Babymetal song, it's the very first Babymetal song, so it's the prototype of the whole "kawaii metal" concept. It was recorded in October 2010, first performed live on November 28th at Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010, and first released on the first Sakura Gakuin album "Sakura Gakuin Nendo: Message" in April 2011 and then released as a single in October 2011 featuring the original music video. They don't play Doki Doki Morning live very often anymore, so it's always a special occasion when they perform it. The old songs are super fun and it's kind of a shame that they don't perform them more often because the crowd always goes off when they do. I was at Legend MM for this performance and I was yelling "Ima nan-ji!" with the rest of the fans and I can tell you that the crowd was really loud.
This song is 14 years old (2010) and the original 3 girls, Su, Moa, and Yui, were 11-12 years old when they recorded it. This means that BABYMETAL have been melting faces for HALF their lives!🤘🦊🤘
Nice one! Do keep in mind, this was Babymetal’s very first song ever. 1st live debut Nov 2010. So the lyrics and “feel” are very reflective of their age back then. Still a banger, and been brought back to live more recently! 🤘🦊

'Doki Doki Morning' was the very first song they ever recorded - that was late October 2010, nearly 14 years ago. They made their live debut with this song in November 2010 - Su was 12, Yui and Moa were both 11. If you didn't already see it I highly recommend you watch the official video - that was made on a shoestring budget nearly a year after the song was recorded. Doki doki is onomatopoeic for a fast or excited heartbeat. The song is about a girl waking up late and rushing to get ready for an exciting day at school with all her friends. It covers all the traditional death and doom metal tropes - like getting her hair straight, what lip gloss to wear etc ... you know the sort of thing. Yes, people do have this for their morning alarms and yes, the fans at the shows know the lyrics to sing along and to shout "imananji" .... and they know the dance moves (you really need to see a mosh pit full of hairy metalheads doing the dance moves - it is hilarious).🤘⏰🕺😁🦊
Great reaction, thanks! "Doki Doki Morning" was their very first song. They premiered it live on November 28th 2010 at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. As you probably already know, they originated within a larger j-pop idol group formed by girls between 10 and 15. So, the song had to be necessarily poppy but it's also crazy metal for that same context if you think about it. Being their very first song, it's very loved by fans. And yes, they know what to do and what to say at any time. And I'm glad I learned it too because I found myself there at legend MM, yelling "What time is it?"... in Japanese. 🤣 Getting it was a relative surprise because they don't usually play it now. 🤘🦊
When they released this song they were still a sub unit of Sakura Gakuin, this is when they were getting little to no financial support from Amuse and were pretty much self funded. They were playing malls and food courts for free, borrowing stage clothes from friends while trying to build a following . It's quite the "rags to riches" story that blows away the misconception that they were just another talent agency creation with an unlimited budget. They had to grind it out like garage bands who've found success in this country have had to do.
I would argue that a it's a far more difficult path for the Babymetal girls when they started, for at least two reasons - first, no pre-treen girl group has really done it that way and second, no pre-treen idol girl group has really played in cafeterias or malls to market themselves as a "heavy metal dance unit". Like seriously how f@ckin insane is that!? What production company will waste money on such a crazy idea... So in my book, these teeny tiny ladies have more metal street creds than vanilla garage bands whose only claim to metal is that they don't shave, wear shabby clothes, smell bad and scream nonsense.

3:10 I've been using it as my alarm clock since 2016 🙂 (I do use the music box version though) But I'm not tired of it, I actually think I'm getting up happier, as we say: Babymetal fans on average are a bit happier.

A secret song? Or maybe there is a reason it was a limited release and never been performed live. Every brick wall needs a solid foundation, BBAB would be a foundation stone in their catalogue. If you were to dismantle a brick wall of Babymetal songs one brick at a time, layer by layer; BBAB would be amongst the first layer of bricks, supporting the rest of their catalogue. Not their best song, yet it performs its supportive duty admirably.

Nice reaction. Babymetals first song and it has been my alarm clock for a few years now. Works like a charm. This is the song they have spent years explaining why they have Doki Doki Mornings. Such as Night Night Burn, Uki Uki Midnight, and many more. All those songs just to explain Doki Doki Mornings. LOL That's my theory on it and I'm sticking to it. LOL. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.
I recommend the official music video when Yuimetal was part of the group. The girls wear different outfits and they look younger. Yui Mizuno is the cutest Japanese singer and dancer I've seen. Their Black and Red debut concert is my favorite. I enjoyed all the performances. 🦊🦊🦊
DDM was way way way before pre-Sonisphere 2014 (like, more than 3 years prior), at a time when BM was still styled as the after-school 'Heavy Music Club' activity of Sakura Gakuin (SG). They didn't sign with a major record label until 2013, which in turn facilitated the IDZ & Megitsune singles that year &, subsequently early in 2014, the eponymous full debut album that would collect their earliest songs (all of which they had already performed live except for, if correct, Rondo Of Nightmare & Song 4). The 2010-13 SG period basically constituted what was labeled later as the 'KAWAII metal' sound (emphasis mine) at its nascent. Koba & his songwriter/producer team were exploring how to best create their own hybrid-genre concoction, but had to include juvenile-themed lyrics because the girls were so young. Koba did have BM quickly turn their backs on established Jpop idol marketing (meet-&-greets, autograph sessions, music shows, anime conventions) less than a year after landing that new record contract. Upon gaining metal credibility (2014-17), BM's lore was ostensibly lining them up for a new 'Dark Side' era in 2018 (with or without Yui) because the girls's teenage years were ending. Musically, the subsequent 2018 tour legs (with the avant garde costumes) would be previewing new songs from 2019's Metal Galaxy album. The new creative direction became 'kawaii METAL' (emphasis mine), still mightily eccentric & eclectic to the uninitiated (dabbling with EDM, trash pop, Indian, Latin, European metal, trap metal, prog rock) after BM was influenced by so many diverse foreign cultures during their world tours. That meant most of their early (homegrown) juvenile-themed repertoire were "retired" (shelved) after the 2017 shows (Five Fox Festival, Big Fox Festival, Legend S Baptism XX). Only Megitsune, Gimme Choco, RoR, Karate, Headbanger (plus Akatsuki & GJ! before 2019) survived the cutdown until the 10th anniversary gigs in 2021. Since then, BM has occasionally revived such oldie songs only as a bonus on special occasions or for nostalgic value. They are always rapturously received, nonetheless. As well, all credit to the East & West Kamis for updating such resurrected oldies instrumentally & making them sound so brilliantly fresh again. With DDM, the long chugging riff in midsong (leading up to Metalverse's appearance) at Babymetal Returns/Maruhari Messe in 2023 was deliriously unforgettable. Ohmura & Isao were the Kami guitarists that night.

At the same time, it's also ridiculously heavy for a song that came out of a school-themed Idol group with members ranging from ten to fifteen years old. This is where it all began for BABYMETAL. 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning was their first song, first music video, etc. Pretty much everything that followed was because this unexpectedly blew up.
