Musiq is unquestionably in MY top 5 all time. His story resonates with me & I love he is able to express himself on a deeper level in this...musical therapy session. This is why Neo Soul is my favorite branch of R&B.
Loved Musiq’s debut!!! Everybody was rocking to it! 🎉 I didn’t know he was basically on his own - maybe that’s why he’s been so deep and oblivious on how much people LOVE him!!!
We really getting this man’s life truth. One of my favorite artists WOW to know that we have so much in common I am literally in awe right now and so grateful
In the video Just Friends, all I was loving was Musiq's look - from head to toe. The wrap on his head, the laceless Timbs; just his whole look was a vibe. But heyyyyy....that's Philly babbbbyyy, all day. And...he did it with his clothes on...or as he just said, his baggy clothes on. From his song Love to So Beautiful....he is a romantic at heart. And that's all R&B is about; that vulnerability. Jokas too busy now trying to be gangsta. But a "real" man knows, it's about the heart and love. Love me some Musiq. He came out blazing...took a little hiatus and I'm looking forward to what he got coming up next. Saw him live with Ledisi and Kem. All three of them are amazing. When I tell you though, the whole audience knew Musiq's songs word for word. That brother is loved.
❤❤❤ Lol answering the top 5 questions towards the end seemed like torture to him 😅 it’s like the questions were killing him softly 🤣 Great interview 🤩❤️
I watched on my TV but had to come to the app because of the very end...THAT KEM IMPRESSION HAD ME HOLLERING because I ALWAYS come out of nowhere doing that! Too funny! I couldnt contain myself😂😂😂😂😂😂
I agree with my sistas in the comments! Yesss! You all are really doing your big one for the culture! Storytelling helps bridge generations! I was there to see you both flourish and Musiq wrote some music that touched me deeply! Please bring DAngelo! We need it! This is just iconic!
Musiq’s catalog is unmatched. Those first two albums are top tier. Although, he’s not always mention in the conversations of great R&B talents, he is indeed appreciated this way.
I don't think trauma is spoken about enough..While some may think he's cocky if you look deep he's an unsheltered and misunderstood person who really couldn't articulate his struggles and still trying figuring it out.😔💔😔
Yes, He did appear to be. Seif aborbed, however, things are not how they appear to be....I learned a lot about Muszik SoulChild. He was experiencing real life while manifesting his musical legacy!
This interview has now entered into my top 3 of all the interviews y'all have done. #1 is still Jamie Foxx #2 is Babyface. Okay now I would love to see Raheem DeVaughn, D'Angelo, Monica, Jasmine Sullivan, Avant, Kem, Faith Evans, Ledisi, Anthony Hamilton, Brandy, EnVogue, Toni Tony Tone, Jill Scott.....just to start lol.
@@renayadams7470 In an industry that can bring out the worst ego, it is so refreshing to see two guys being genuine and kind. They’ve really bring something special to the interviewing experience. :)
Seeing this interview has given me a the true perspective of Musiq. Only people that are truly introverts will understand where he is coming from.. I hope he finds peace with his childhood. We all need a support system and you can see he had to figure it out on his own. When you are comfortable in the background and you have a talent that puts you out in the front...it will always be hard to take a compliment and be comfortable to getting your flowers. You are coming from a pure place and people try and take advantage of that innocence.
This might be my favorite episode. It resonated with me so much as being a creative and knowing you're dope, but not having the self-belief because you didn't grow up with having people reassuring you that you're talented at a high level. It's really a thing. That's why I try to speak life into my kids because it's necessary to develop confidence
Can we just talk about how Musiq soul child has one of the best musical catalogs ever? I put his album up there with Lauryn Hill's ex-factor. Period. You can listen to it from the beginning to the end. Everyone is a hit.
J Valentine, you were not lying. That debut CD of his is one of the BEST!! I can still play that album ALL THE WAY THROUGH WITHOUT skipping songs because ALL of them were GREAT!! Genuine talent.❤
Like SERIOUSLY!!!! EVERYBODY and I mean everybody that has been on this pod has mentioned her in some form or fashion. Brandy is underrated and AMAZING!!!
Music had everyone on that "M-A-R-Y-H-O-W-C-O-U-L-D-Y-O-U-B-E-S-O-C-R-U-E-L-T-O-M-E-M-Y-LOVE!" MEMORIZED since the album released! Everyone who had it knew it and we were VIBIN'! Whole album full of hot lines. And that was the BEGINNING! What!?
Musiq Soulchild shaped and was the soundtrack for my young adult life. The great writing and unreal vocal arrangements put him on my list as "One of the Ones!" I have stayed a fan and his music has continued to evolve and be great.
He had so many songs that were where I was as a young man. Me and and my now wife, had just started dating and songs that captured the things on first meeting, new love, previous relationship baggage, sustaining love, talking about the real things that you need in a meaningful relationship, Musiq captured it all! And even on songs like Dear John, he captures what it's like when the relationship comes to an end. I call my wife "Baby Girl" from his song of the same name... The way he was taking to the girl, "Pardon me mydarling, but do you have a second... Just so I can tell how you caught my full attention... How is that you look so well put together, flawless as can be it just doesn't get no better. Ya bodies picture perfect and there ain't a brick that's missin, you look like ya momma raised you on that grits and chicken..." All this was when were really outside having to have conversations and engage with women! Lol, he did it all! Salute to the legend!
I haved loved Musiq since the very beginning!! 143 has been my most favorite song for the past 15 yrs!! My baby was killed at 10 months in 2015. My husband and I went to his grave for his first birthday. We took some Mickey Mouse balloons bc that is who he loved at the time. We were weeping and so sorrowful and as the wind blew, one of the balloons had 143 taped to it and I lost it! If you don't know, 143 means I love you and I felt like my baby boy was talking to me. I am crying rn as I remember that day. Thank you for this interview.
This interview has to be in my top 5. J. Valentine is asking all the right questions. Musiq Soulchild albums that listening to it with my friends in the car, reading the credits, and breaking down the lyrics. One of his most underrated songs "Previous cats ". Love all of his gifting. Thanks R&B money ❤❤❤
Him and ERo made a classic with that one! Every argument me and my child’s mom would get into bets believe I was either playing or singing that for the rest of the day
Musiq Soulchild created so much great music! One of my all-time favorite artists! That first CD helped me a lot with the ladies! Thanks Musiq Soulchild!!
When you are listening for 3 hours, never get bored, and not looking at the time and hoping it would end (while others are much shorter, yet maybe you wouldn’t mind it ended), THIS A MAN OF DEPTH.👏🏽 Phenomenal job of interviewing and excellent discourse, you can tell there was so much he didn’t say also…God bless him on his continued journey.
Bilal is the MOST Underrated Artist EVER.. BTW Musiq changed my Entire concept of music I was sweeped away...both of those guys were Awesome and my favorite time of music!
Jazmine Sullivan's name has been brought up TOO MANY TIMES for her not to be on this podcast! Please invite her...like bug tf out of her until she agrees to come on.
Wow!!! I don’t think I fully appreciated it until this very moment of watching this interview that Musiq Soulchild is truly on a genius level. He was beyond beyond his time; THE time...as most geniuses and deeply and extraordinarily creative beings are. But dang, I believe I’ve...and I definitely know that WE, as a culture, general public, consumers (alike), have taken him for granted. But when I hear these songs over a decade later they hit different...they transcend...they speak to my SOUL (no pun intended). Just WOW!! It’s like people like Tank, Musiq and countless others who have been on the platform speak a foreign language and THIS podcast; this movement, people like “The Valentine” translates it ALL. I’m probably not making sense. I can’t even explain all the things that I felt during this interview. Just thank you 🙏🏾.What a gift.
I watched and listened to the ENTIRE INTERVIEW. I've loved this man from day one. Sir we love you and always have. What you've done for R&B will never go unnoticed, we love you Musiq Soulchild. Tank and J, 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I don't know if Bilal will ever do the pod but I would cancel all plans just to watch. Im so glad the guys gave him his flowers. He is a gift from elsewhere ❤
Some of these artists have PTSD bad. Tank and J are the music therapists because they understand their life as artists and the business side. This podcast is needed. Us as fans don't realize what has happened behind the scenes of why some of our favorite artists disappeared. I can tell Musiq is having a hard time.
Musiq Soulchild is a HUGE part of my childhood. He made me, as a little girl, feel beautiful and loved...helped me to appreciate my differences when others saw them as "flaws". I, as a child, felt seen and important. Not in any wrong way...but he said what my father would say to me, in lyric form. I love his artistry and timeless music 🥺🥺❤❤
This Dude never disappoints ! He had a cold when he came to Houston and still gave a stellar show. I've bought every CD he has made. I Love Musiq Soulchild ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love Musiq Soulchild!! He never does interviews like this and to have him on for almost 3 hours is amazing!! Love his music!! I missed the first hour so I will go back and watch again!! Keep the R&B Money Podcast Train going!! ❤️❤️🎼🎼
I don’t know about anyone else… but every time they mentioned one of Musiq Soulchild’s songs I paused the interview, found the song, played it & then continued listening again. So many great songs! Brought back so many memories!
I want to give little boy (his younger self)Musiq a hug!! His trauma hurts my soul! I’m so glad he’s on his healing journey! Praying for him! Makes me love Musiq even more!!! Great episode!! Thank you !
I first felt empathetic for him when I heard him on QuestLove Supreme. He's gone through a lot and he's obviously scarred by it. I am happy he's in a better place now and hopefully he knows how much he is loved by so many people.
Y'ALL DON'T MISS!!! I'm already re-watching!!! I love how your format gets so much out of the artists. And I LOVE Musiq and have never seen this type of interview with him. THANK Y'ALL!!!
I love that he mentioned past trauma and living a life not wanting to be seen or noticed, basically tryna hide yourself...it's so relatable and inspiring ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Aijuswanaseing dropped my Freshman year in college and was a true gem! So glad they had him on. Hearing the backstory gives me an even deeper appreciation for his artistry! Awesome interview.
I agree, Bilal's voice and the authenticity of his music is dope to experience live. He opened for Jill Scott in Nashville last month and I was stoked! The audience didn't deserve him; they weren't hype enough for me!😄 Bilal performed!
I agree. I go wherever Bilal is and many times the audience pisses me off. Bilal is doing all kinds of vocal arrangements on the stage and they're sitting there looking dumb... I'm over there yelling Sing B!!!! Ready to throw my shoes off...and they're sitting there. Bilal is the truth in every way that matters.
I loved this episode because Musiq isn’t the most open artist about his life. I guess that’s always been apart of his persona (wearing Sunglasses etc) he let out his truth in the music but never really let us know who He was behind the music. I felt in this interview he let his guard down some. It makes me connect with his music even more than I had before. This is one of the best episodes
@@BabyGurlnJP 🤔YEAH I WAS SHOCKED TOO. I ALSO LOVED THAT HE MENTIONED STEVIE WONDER CUZ HE DID A COVER OF STEVIES SONGS BEFORE . MUSIQ 🎵 IS THE DEFINITION OF HIP HOP SOUL LIKE HE SAID .🤔SEE IN PHILADELPHIA WE ARE VERY SOULFUL WITH A SPLASH 💦 OF HIP HOP AND HES THE DEFINITION OF BOTH HIP HOP AND NEO SOUL 😎✊🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾 HONESTLY I THOUGHT PRIOR TO WATCHING THIS THE DESCRIPTION OF HIS STYLE AND HE SAID WHAT I SAID 🤣✊🏾🎤🙌🏾HES ALMOST EVERY AVENUE OF SOUL MUSIC CUZ HES MORE ABOUT HIS VOICE JUST NOT HIS IMAGE THE MOST YOU PUT OUT THATS WHAT SHINES ✨ BRIGHT AND HE FOCUSES ON HIS VOICE AND HIS VOICE IS JUST AMAZING 🤩 GOD BLESS HIM 🐐✊🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾🙌🏾🎤
I love this interview. Musiq telling the straight up tru-true. I never heard such a real heart pour out such wisdom from such a spiritual place. This brother the real deal. Respect 🙏🏾
Great to see the legend himself Musiq Soulchild. Hope to see the following next: - Ginuwine -Brandy - Monica - Missy Elliott - Ray J - Mary J Blige aka Monet Tejada -Janet Jackson aka Queen of R&B aka Queen of Pop aka Queen of Rhythm Nation - Dru Hill ORIGINAL MEMBERS - Jodeci - Brownstone - Tatayana Ali - Ester Dean - B2K with Omarion - Pretty Ricky - Usher - Mariah Carey
but lets be clear... d'angelo was no gimmick. that was ART in it's highest form on every level. body was art, voice- art, lyrics ART! musicianship?? ARRRRRTTTTT
Musiq Soulchld is so philosophically artistic! He’s a creative and a thinker, and I can 100% identify with that. It can be torturous. Sending him lots of love and light! Amazing interview Tank and J!!!
I wonder if Music Soulchild knows he probably has ADHD given his story today. Kids aren’t lazy or stupid they’re bored and uninterested. Find your passion!
I have to admit he wasn't my favorite. He talks a lot but is not really saying anything and I can't stand a person who talks then stops!! I love Musiq tho and his music....he just took too long for no reason. Tank & J are always a vibe. I love y'all great interviewing skills!
Took me three days to watch, cause I got things to do, but it was worth it. And ain't nothing wrong with pausing to get your words correct. If more people did that, less apologies would have to be made. Pause. Pause...
OMG My dad has debated me for YEARS that the song “Love” was originally about god or a gospel song.. I told him I have neverrr heard that lol but I understand how it could have possibly been, with the lyrics.. I’m so glad Musiq has cleared this up!! Now I gotta call my daddy 😂😂
My FAVORITE effing podcast! Love Tank & J. Had to stop it and write this: When Soulchild said, "I'm here for you," and J said, " Boy you pimpin'" I laughed myself into tears!!! Listen to a woman, make her laugh, open her door...., it's GOLD!
One of my favorite collaborations is when He worked with Robert Glasper and the song was Ah Yeah among others Musiq’s voice flows like water no matter what song you hear from Him you will be over taken away and taken on a journey through the currents of His soul ❤❤❤❤
Frustrated at 10 by a classmate that can’t sing😂😂. 3 greats to learn from musically….definitely hear them in your music. Yaaassss Jill is so dope👏🏾👏🏾, I’m glad she put you on that stage. Lots of things popped off in 1999🤔🤔. Musiq and Tank are soooooo much alike and it’s freaking entertaining😂😂. Self expression👍🏾 a whole care bear in these streets😂.
