Original Description: Sikhism, the 5th largest and youngest of the world religions. A religion that preaches about love, peace, and the equality of humankind, but also asks it’s followers to carry swords.
Sikhism originated in the Punjab area of India and Pakistan, 500 years ago. The Punjab, the land of five rivers, is one of the most historically and culturally dense areas on Earth. Today there are about 25 million Sikhs. They make up about 2% of India's population but about 60% of the Punjab's. The Sikh diaspora is spread out across the world with concentrations in the UK, Canada, The US, East Africa, Australia, and Malaysia. Sikhs interestingly enough make up almost 1.5% of Canada's population which is second only to India.
So who are the Sikh’s, what do they believe, and why does everyone confuse them for Muslims? Well Let’s Find Out.

my brother,This is the difference between Sikhs and Muslims, Muslims start comparing other religions with their own religion and Sikhs consider all religions as equal. In Islam, sharing of earnings is only with the Muslim, but Sikhs share with the people of every religion who is a neighbor Without this condition and hope, one day he will become a Sikh.

of course to muslims islam is a path revealed by Allah himself and is the only path too reach truth which is logical as why would god reveal several contradictory belief systems even those that may insult him or degrade him (such as satanism). wrong, in islam zakat (charity) can be shared with disadvantaged non muslims living among muslims (known as dhimmi) and the prophet Muhammad commanded muslims to care for their neighbour's regardless of faith and too feed the poor. research is key

@@anujrajput1358As a Hindu, I don't think that we should unnecessarily pit one religion against another (even if others wish to do so). And the soul and the atman are not entirely disconnected. "My idea, therefore, is that all these religions are different forces in the economy of God, working for the good of mankind; and that not one can become dead, not one can be killed. Just as you cannot kill any force in nature, so you cannot kill any one of these spiritual forces. You have seen that each religion is living. From time to time it may retrograde or go forward. At one time, it may be shorn of a good many of its trappings; at another time it may be covered with all sorts of trappings; but all the same, the soul is ever there, it can never be lost. The ideal which every religion represents is never lost, and so every religion is intelligently on the march. And that universal religion about which philosophers and others have dreamed in every country already exists. It is here. As the universal brotherhood of man is already existing, so also is universal religion. Which of you, that have traveled far and wide, have not found brothers and sisters in every nation? I have found them all over the world" -Collected Works of Swami Vivekananda, II, pp. 366-67

It is actually not related to Islam it all, it was formed to resist the forced conversion in the northern India by the Hindus.. They formed what’s called is misls. There was a time when Hindus would ask one of their kids to become a Sikh to resist the Mughals. Two of the Sikh gurus were killed brutally by the Mughals Guru Arjan Dev and Guru Tegh Bahadur. Most revered Sikh figures such as Banda Bahadur also was skinned by the Mughals on the Red Fort during his resistance to Mughal ruler Farukhshiyar. Hinduism and Sikhism were one and the same before British, Sikhism was one of the sect of Hinduism, for that matter other religions that were formed in the subcontinent were all sects of Hinduism there were many more sects that didn’t survive such as adivaita and many more. There was a fluidity in religions on the subcontinent you could follow any sect In Hinduism. You could find a Buddhist, Jain, adivaita, Charvaka,Sikh, saktiasm, vaishnism, shaivaism all in one household. Raja Ranjit singh had Durga on his flag , she’s a Hindu goddess. He attacked the afghans and brought back to India the door of Somnath temple that was looted by Mohammad Ghori during his invasions of India in the 1000 century. 🙏🏼 Sikh are one the the kindest people one can meet.

The concept of pluralism is central to all Dharmic traditions. There are multiple paths to reach from anywhere around the world to a specific destination. Some paths may be slow or fast. Some paths are more convenient to a group of people from a specific location and so on. None of the paths is superior or inferior to others, as long as the destination is the same. The truth is one, but the paths to reach the truth are innumerable and equally valid. Men and women are equal implies that if polygamy is allowed in society, polyandry should also be allowed. So, for society to work with providing true equality, monogamy is the only suitable option.

You can’t judge a religion based off of this video . While there are similarities with sikhi - Hinduism and Islam . Many people can say that islam is an amalgamation of Judaism and Christianity since it came 600 years later . While you can say Islam was there since the beginning of time there is no historical evidence to support this . And the logic used to defend this theory is still flawed. As Sikh means disciple so Therefore a Muslim is a Sikh cause he’s a disciple of God …. Just cause Muslim means believer or to submit to God doesn’t mean Jesus or the previous Jewish prophets were - some believe that ( yeshua ) was Muslim or used the name allah to pray to God . He spoke Aramaic and followed the Jewish laws while then creating his own religion There are similarities with Islam and pagan rituals too . So in reality every religion has taken inspiration from a previous sect / tradition . As mostly all religions preach the same message just in a different context. This is why Sikhi says all paths lead to God as everyone was born in a different household with a purpose given by God . If God is all merciful he wouldn’t send a person to hell for being born into a different religion.

Isn't that exactly the problem with especially abrahamic faiths, that its followers believe it's the only way and the final revelation? Because of this it's hard to let go of the dodgy stuff in the Qur'an (or bible for Christians ). Dharmic religions such as Sikhism seem much more open minded to other paths. Also it doesn't say you have to follow a specific deity that'll throw you into hell if you don't happen to worship the correct symbol. Theres a lot less your ego can attach to vs Christianity and Islam. If you believe god is in all then who will you fight for and against whom? So nonviolence is quite inherent in the belief. It sounds like a lovely way of viewing the world, where all is one, and god is in all.

@@MuslimMindsUS as long as those beliefs don't harm anyone sure! I have Muslim friends that are lovely people. As long as you don't harm anyone or try to impose your religion on others/ society I think it's all good. I just see things in both the bible and the Qur'an that make it easier to justify violence/oppression based on those beliefs than if you're for example Sikh or Buddhist or Jain. Of course I also think the bible is heavily edited and that Jesus's teachings are actually pretty much in line with the other mentioned religions. Then there's also Sufism that also seems to point to the same thing (everything is god, god is in all, god can be found by self inquiry and directly experienced). So actually all paths do go to the same thing which is amazing! So then in the end what does it matter what path you take? It's just ideology that's the problem and again even though Islam and Christianity contain the same truth I think that truth is wrapped up under more layers imo. That doesn't make them less worthy of respect it just means it's important to stick to that underlying truth and not get distracted by ideology and dogmatism
@MuslimMindsUS
@MuslimMindsUS 10 месяцев назад
That’s irrational. “Sure” doesn’t address the implications of the differences of belief. A Christian cannot accept the Hindu gods or unbelief in Christ. The two are unreconcilable. They both cannot be right. Sure both can be wrong but both cannot be right. If you subscribe to a belief 9/10 you believe it is the truth. Unless you are in a religion for no reason. You can only say they all lead you to the same destination if you discard 99% of the rest of the religion which almost always includes that other world views are incorrect. These are the reasons why the major world religions believe they are correct and others are wrong. You don’t need to be so inclusive and pandering all the time. It’s fine to believe in your religion and not accept every idea on the street Your idea of acceptance is correct in the understanding that it is applicable to dharmic religions and not Abrahamic. But that’s the entire point, those religions have room for those kind of acceptances and the abrahamic ones do not. That on it’s own definitely does not mean the abrahamic ones are oppressive. It simply means we believe in a truth and do not try to reconcile clear contradictions. Has this been used to justify violence? Yes, it has been abused. But so has every other world belief, society, religion, even secular ideologies and societies Realize this notion of acceptance leads to contradiction and cannot be reconciled. You have to change the beliefs of a faith to make it work. Such as telling a Christian that Hindus technically believe in one God too, so it’s the same thing. That would be leaving out the required Christian sacraments and beliefs about god and the Trinity, with no other additions or interpretations acceptable. Of course although the disagreements are major at times, we should not sacrifice decency and respect. Whatever your beliefs are. It is not my intention to mock it, because I respect you as a human and individual. But as far as accepting the belief. I would politely not do so for example. -Rohaib
@gdgkuf2315
@gdgkuf2315 10 месяцев назад
@@MuslimMindsUS well I don't see it like that. I think all gods whether that's Zeus or Ganesh or whatever else can be seen as an emanation of the one ultimate reality whether you call that God or anything else. If you look at polytheistic Religions they have the god of wisdom, god of wine etc. They are merely symbols to worship something greater and find an access point to something that's infinite and difficult to grasp. I think that the true message/god/holy spirit whatever it is, is one of unity, not division. But if you say only I am correct and you are wrong, If there's a belief such as I go to heaven you go to hell. Only my way of life is correct, that suddenly opens things up to violence. And the problems I see in both the bible and the Qur'an is the amount of times violence is justified and endorsed. For example in Buddhism you have to do mental gymnastics to the point of denying the Buddha's teachings to justify any kind of violence. With the bible and the Qur'an you have to do mental gymnastics to pretend violence isn't endorsed. You are correct any religion can be used for violence. Any worldview the ego attaches to can be used for violence whether that's nationalism, religion, political leanings etc. But if the basis of the religion is detachment and tolerance it's less likely to happen than if it's a projection of the ego aka my god is the only right one, believe in him or go to hell. I think Jesus was an amazing teacher, I'd want to learn from him absolutely if he was alive today. Muslim mystics also experienced the same truths as all religions point to. The one unfolding, the one consciousness, the one god. You can call it many different names but mean the same thing. I think that's the biggest "problem" I saw with Christianity when I was Christian. Going to church was about dogma, about being right and making others wrong. Dharmic religions focus on becoming free and liberated. I now am quite certain that's also what Jesus was teaching. But because the church is so infiltrated by dogma and blind faith, I only found the truth in Jesus's teachings after studying other faiths that teach these truths more obviously. The other thing is, both the Qur'an and the bible were only written down a long time after the respective leaders died so there are bound to be things in there that were misconstrued and biases by other people. But if the belief is that this is the one truth the one perfect book and suddenly you find a passage that says you may keep and beat slaves- like it does in the bible- you only have 2 options. 1 you have to admit the book isn't perfect 2 you defend something cruel or untrue tooth and nail. That is imo a rather dangerous thing. Buddhist scripture for example has the same problems it was also only written down hundreds of years after the Buddha lived but Buddhists know that. So if there's something in Buddhist scripture that said keep and beat slaves- you could easily say well I doubt that's what the Buddha said, who was all about loving kindness and against discrimination. You can discard it as a mistranslation without losing the core tenet of your faith. So that's the thing as you said religions have different beliefs but I really don't think at their core they're different at all. I think the tenets of Jainism Buddhism and Sufism are closer to the underlying truth because they are less ego and dogma driven. The Buddha very wisely called the underlying truth emptiness because he knew if he called it god people would start saying *my god, he's the only right one etc* So just a question, do you think everyone should be Muslim? If you think it's the best way to live and we only have one life to worship the correct deity, isn't that the necessary conclusion?

Well to be a abrahamic religion it needs to tie into back to Abraham right? As in the prophets need to trace back to Abraham and his descendants, I think that's how Abrahamic religions are suppose to work?, I don't think any of the Guru's traced their ancestry to Abraham and as such while having stuff from Islam don't qualify as a Abrahamic branch. Which would place it in the Dharminc family alongside Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains as it has stuff from those religions specifically Hinduism. From my understanding, which is very limited, Sikhism teaches that every faith is just parts of the whole, and that in order to become one with God you must let go of ego and divisons.

Historical theory and analysis suggests that Sikhism came into existence during the early Medieval period of the Bhakti movement and also after repeated invasions by Muslim rulers upon the Hindu community during Mughal rule, which lasted between (1526-1857 A.D) especially in the region of North India. Guru Nanak was a Hindu and he loved to travel and learn. He developed a new religion and included in it what he thought were the good beliefs of the two dominant religions in the Punjab region, Hinduism and Islam. And Sikhism indeed has beliefs from these two religions.

Our Guru granth sahib has the "truth" which can be similar from any religion which does not mean its taken from anyone else's religion. The truth is the truth which cannot be changed but there are some differences between our religion to others which makes sense.. and so we believe that there is truth existed but not all truth been presented by other religions and so we believe that Guru Granth Sahib is the only complete truth. Moreover the muslim sufis and scholars, the bhagats, etc religious people also liked and bowed thier head in front of our guru as respect and our guru made them more respectful by adding their bani in the guru granth sahib for the truth. Seems to me that what you find strange in Sikhism on the line of taking concepts from previous prophets and similarities with previous religious systems in the area it was born in, is what a christian would find strange in islam, as it too adds new twists to concepts from previously known established revelations and religions, and jews could say the same of Christians, and Zoroastrians and Babilonians could say the same about Jews, and so on and so on. I feel like all religions based on revelation from fallible human beings acting as prophets whose words are conveniently written and codified centuries later are equally silly if seen through an outsider eyes, and only "the truth" to any who grew up within a strict religious community without the ability or freedom to put things in their own historical context. Of course "newer" revelations would try to take on the most interesting arguments of previous ones, and "new prophets" would almost always build on the good will of the previous ones to grow a following. And of course any new established religion, once it grew to a size where it had to solidify control or suffer their inevitable splintering in infinite sects, would declare that their own prophet was the best and final one and start opposing deviations from the "true path". But humanity endures through, and life is the only true path that we all share equally; old and new religions alike have to face this truth and cant help but change and adapt with the times, often violently, applying the same old practice of mith-building to their new populations and beliefs. I fear that any man that uses religion to justify his wants and needs, does so in service to himself only. I also believe that religion making is a human instinct, so i doubt it will end here, every generation will make it's own understanding on their own terms, no matter what previous religions say on the matter. Im not interested on the number game religions play as of course numbers of followers does not correlate with truth, and intensity of belief of followers as well is not a measure of the allignment of their beliefs with reality. Ironically, all religions in the end preach themselves as the only true path and thus create conflict between otherwise equal humans, each strenghtening the conflict by making differences where there would be none otherwise, painting any possible real "God" as a screwup that made a world where so many different revelations were given to so many "ultimate prophets" around the world, confusing his creation into justifying hate and murder.

@@MuslimMindsUS if we sikhs start making videos reacting to stupidities in Islam and the cruel practices that you blindly follow, You will surely get offended and start crying but we sikhs don't believe in making fun of other religions. @@MuslimMindsUSfunny enough Muslims can never tolerate having their religion challenged. Laughing is not challenging something and I know deep down you know the religion you follow is full of flaws. Maybe you’ll figure it out when you don’t reach heaven and get don’t get your virgins in paradise

There are not any prophets in Sikhism. And, another point I would like to add is of the proper meaning of the Guru(Teacher) Granth(Book) Sahib. More specifically to Sahib, which is a term of respect and reverence. When added to "Guru Granth," it conveys a sense of respect. It is not the lord but it is like any religious text, it is to help people connect with God. And, Sikhism more specifically believes that while different religions might have distinct rituals, cultural practices, and theological beliefs, there are common ideas that are in all genuine spiritual traditions. These commonalities include the pursuit of moral virtues, devotion to a higher power, and the understanding of the fundamental interconnectedness of all existence. Hope this helps better understand sikhism. If you have any questions I would be willing to answer them in the replies. :)

This is the worst video to explain what Sikhism is about. This guy has not done his proper research and the way he explain things via his animation is so weird. He could have done a better job at it and he really over exaggerated some things and the way he has described things is so so so weird. Sikhism is a modern religion which has broken the myth of having multiple gods, spoken against discrimination of minorities, people with different sexualities, people have different gender, cast, colour, social and economic status etc. It takes a long time to understand the depth of this religion and what it is trying to say. Really disappointed with this video and the Hindu reaction video. Also, Cogito, wish you could have done a better job with proper research and better explanation and better animation. Also, I did feel you guys were too fixated on segregating what is from Muslim belief and what is from Hindu belief that you forgot to see the actual meaning of Sikhism. (Literally did what this religious is against) Hope you can you can do better next time. :)

So all the other "gods" are just another form of the "one God" in Hinduism? So God exists in different beings and in parts, similar to Trinity in Christianity? -Hamza

Sikhism is great as in ehen it talk about the religion many of these things have been said or are in other religion however its the way sikh gurus showed people how to live with these beliefs also sikhs guru had many Muslim friends sikhs and Muslims have a very interesting relationship and the langer is just amazing because muslims sit together and eat but unfortunately the cast system and other decisions of wealth divide people and higher cast won't sit or go near lower cast or rich people don't go near poor people but the langwr everyone was sitting next to eachother eating together that's why it's different and you don't have to me a sikh to eat in a langer the main goal of Sikhism is not to convert people there's actually no ceremony to become a sikh you just do sikhism go is to teach the world of equality and promote justice sikhs have protected women and the weak and always spoken against the wrong it seems like the video is trying to show Sikhism is better than other religions however every single word in the video is 100 percent ture you can do your own research the sikhs even have a important historical sword linked to Islam it was gifted to the 10th guru ji by a Muslim saying guru ji should be its right full owner also guru nanak dev ji has been to the mecca aswell and the number of visitors is outdated there atleast more than 150,000 visiting every day this number can even be 250,000 plus so it is the most visited place on this earth.

Bro, whats the issue about of human is just to satisfy himself that his/her god is supreme of all, but what the Sikh faith say the humanity first, and there is no influence of anyone as u can see the history of Sikhs the two guru’s and the last guru himself never adopt the islam but sacrifice for humankind at Mughal’s period but the muslims and the Hindus says that the Sikh’s are influenced from their faith, i suggest u to read the history bro, this video is a just overview and can’t define any religion in a short, sikh religion says belive in truth and humanity, never imposed teachings on other, spread love spread humanity, may almighty bless u, respect all🫡 love all🙏

Sikhs have had a strong relationship with Muslims especially the Sufis for years. For example, the foundation stone of the Harmandir Sahib or the Golden Temple in Amritsar was laid by the Sufi mystic Sain Mian Mir. The 5th Sikh Guru had specifically called upon the mystic to lay the stone in order to show that the doors of the Sikh faith’s holiest of holies would always be open to everyone, regardless of their beliefs. The Sikh Gurus were known for their appreciation of the spirituality and beliefs of others. When the Sikh scriptures were first being compiled by the 5th Guru some 400 years ago, he invited verses to be sent to him from all over the subcontinent so that they could be considered for inclusion. Many Hindus and Muslims submitted their own poetry and those of their teachers, and the Guru selected those hymns which accorded with Sikh teachings. Gurus did not change them or call them their own but gave credit to those who’s versus were used. They’re are verses of Sheikh Farid, a Sufi saint who died about 250 years before the Sikh faith was even founded, came to form an integral part of the Sikh scriptures. His poetry also helped transform Punjabi from being a folk language to one considered suitable for literature, in much the same way that Chaucer changed how English came to be perceived.
