Today we are looking at the cinemas or picture houses which once entertained the people of Musselburgh. Sadly these are now gone, so take a wee walk down memory lane of a bygone era.
There is still one picture house which I have very little information, watch the video, and if you can help with the missing links, please leave me a comment.
Hope you enjoy the video, and if not already done so, can you please hit the “like” button and subscribe to our channel, it is free, it costs nothing. Thanks for watching.

I remember being offloaded into the picture house up Dalrymple Loan as a bairn whilst my parents 'did their own thing' As regards to the cinema on the high street, my first memories of this it being Eclipse Motorcycles. I bought my first bike from them here. It was a Honda MT - 5 ❤

Two points of interest..... The Pavilion later became a discotheque known as The Ion Trap. And the Playhouse Cinema (formerly known as the Regal) had an adjoining barber shop on its left hand side. Great memories, thanks for sharing.

I wasn’t around at the time all these cinemas were in Musselburgh but even I felt reminiscent when watching it (and I narrated it hahaha). Thanks for adding a wee bit more history here buddy. Hopefully we’ll hear from more people about any other bits we weren’t aware of. Cheers!

One of the first films my parents took me to see was Thunderball at Musselburgh Playhouse, in the 60’s

Didn't realise that it was as far back as the late 60's when the Hayweights closed as a cinema. Can recall seeing a couple of "Man From Uncle" films there so that must have been around that time.

I sometimes wonder myself where the years have went.

My mum worked as a clippy on the buses and I attended quite a few childrens Christmas parties in the bus depot. My dad used to take his Commer van into the bus depot to wash it in the bus wash. One time he’d forgot to wind his window all the way up, and by the time he closed it, we were all drookit. 😂😂😉

The Playhouse camera operator was a gentleman named Bob Stevenson who now lives in Wallyford.

Just a pity all these picture houses have now closed, sign of the times I suppose. Thanks for you comment. 👍
