The Cairngorms National Park is in the northeast of Scotland. It's the largest national park in the UK covering an area of 4,528 square kilometre. This is a haven for those who love outdoor activities. Hence, it is often referred to as the adventure capital of the UK.
Here are the things that should be in your must-do list when you're in the area:
00:36 Take a walk around a loch (lake for us non-Scottish). There's plenty of them around. We essentially just picked a random lake near our BnB and boy were we surprised with how stunning Loch Morlich is. Apparently, scenes in season 5 of Game of Thrones were filmed here.
1:59 Go horse riding/trekking. I've not done this before but I absolutely loved it! The places where they take you is out of this world. I had to pinch myself to remind me that it's real and I'm not just dreaming. We've been told that for experience riders, they will even take you to the mountains were the view is even more spectacular.
4:04 Meet Rudolph. Well, maybe not Rudolph exactly but some of his cousins and friends. I did not know this before but there are reindeer here in the UK. They are up in the Cairngorms mountain so you will have to do a litte bit of walk up the mountain (about 30 mins). I literally turn into a giggling mess when I met them. There's something about reindeer that makes me feel like a child again!
6:12 Explore the quaint and lovely little towns. There's so many of them but when you're driving around, stop on any random town and go for a walk. You will thank yourself afterwards.
8:36 Visit a whisky distillery. A trip in the Scottish Highlands is not complete without visiting a whisky distillery. Learn more about the process of making whisky, the history of the distillery and of course taste as much whisky as you can. No driving for the rest of the day though, so make sure you're staying within the walking distance from the distillery.
