These legato of his are great. I just set my timer 15 minutes. 4 times a day. And it works great. After you’ve played off and on for 35 yrs it’s hard to go super slow. These lessons work great because he addresses the things your likely to do instead of following through with this accurately . Thanks C!
I’ve gotten superb results from your method of breaking things down into small pieces and mastering them, one at a time. These videos are great. You and Troy Grady have the best guitar lessons on RU-vid.
Keep the hits coming man! One big thing that's stuck from your courses and online lessons is that you gotta be very humble when it comes to your skill level and not be afraid to look or sound like a beginner if you want really want to get that mastery.
How do you mute higher strings when you play like 12 15 17 legato on the a string? If you use your fingertips in this claw position, you are not able to use your fretting hand for muting. Yes, you can try to use the pinky of you picking Hand, but then the lower e string is open. You can try tu mute the lower e with the index finger of your fretting hand but it's very hard to do in this claw position. Playing 12 15 17 on the d string the lower e is completely open. You can try to mute the lower e with your palm and the higher strings with your pinky but this is extremely tricky... not easy 😕
I taught myself legato as a kid (had no idea it had a name or was an actual technique) and I pick the 1st 2 notes of every 3 note run. Is that strange?
No, that’s a nice little trick that can make you “sound faster” as far as your picking technique. My guitar teacher showed me that trick in high school. He said it came from a Paul Gilbert lesson.
@@viciousdope66 well hot damn, I got something right! Sounding faster by picking the 1st 2 notes is exactly what it sounded like to me so I stuck with it.
I doubt anyone on planet earth, especially a beginner will be able to sit for just 30 min on that exercise, let alone an hr. Legato is very demanding on the hands, most people could never get to that level of being able to relax and still be able to use enough pressure/strength to fret those notes and since they can't, tension will build so rapidly that after only 5 minutes, their shoulders, traps and hands will be on fire. The next day, they'll be lucky if they could move their hands.
