It has been a great start to my reading year. I enjoyed all 19 books I read so far and choosing the top five was difficult. But, alas, here is the fabulous list. Hope you enjoy the video and please let me know if you've read any of these titles or if you are hoping to get to them. I hope you are reading lots and enjoying your choices.

I'm so glad you're enjoying The Dark Tower series from King. I recall you weren't too enthusiastic about the first book. It's such a joy when you discover something that you really love.

So glad to hear you are liking the Dark Tower now. It’s one of my all time favorite series. I’ve read the Gunslinger 5 times now and every time it gets better.

Absolutely agree with you, I don't know how anyone disliked The Fall of Hyperion that liked the first book! Books 3 and 4 of The Dark Tower are definitely my favorites of the series.

That's great to hear as I'm finishing book 2 today and looking forward to reading The Waste Lands, hopefully next month! And yes, Fall of Hyperion was exactly what I hoped it would be. 🙌

I would recommend No Country for Old Men as your next Cormac read. Trust me pardner. The best book I have read so far this year is Empire of the Sun by J.G. Ballard. I still think about it. The characters and story are based in a WWII prisoner camp but it feels like an apocalyptic adventure. Fascinating. It is always great to discover books that speak to you. Well done.

Thank You for the recommendations. I was thinking of Blood Meridian as my next McCarthy read, but No Country is a great option; it has been long enough (maybe 15 years) since I watched the movie. Empire of the Sun is another one that I watched the film (25 years ago?) but have not read the book. I will remedy that at some point. 👍

I'm glad you've had such a great first quarter of reading! My top 3 reads this quarter are: Machine Vendetta by Alastair Reynolds, No Enemy But Time by Michael Bishop, How They Broke Britain by James O'Brien (this last is non-fiction). Looking forward to the buddy read!

Ooh i picked up Vanishing Birds the other day, it sounded good, glad to hear you enjoyed it. I read A Time of Changes last year, loved it and it's still my favourite Silverberg now. I need to read Hyperion cantos again. It's been at least 10 years. Dark Tower is in my top 10 series, its so good. Another one I should re-read!! I read the first few as they came out in the 80s/90s, when King was writing them as a hobby, not really sure where it was going or if he'd ever finish it. Good luck with your Q2 reading, i think you'll like Inverted World. 👍

Yes. Such a good book! It affected me greatly, tough to put down. I just read All the Pretty Horses and really liked it as well.

I wish I like Fall of Hyperion as much as you did. Any plans for your next McCarthy read? Right into the crossing or explore more of his catalog?

Since the crossing is not a direct sequel, I think the next McCarthy will be either Blood Meridian or No country for old Men. Those two have been on my tbr for a while.
