ARENA Link to the film.👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q-USdiTTKvE.htmlsi=BTcLkFHTcQMxTLrF It's a little known scifi/action B-movie from 1989. Some good ol' 80s cheese. The best kind of 80s cheese, lol. Delicious. If you haven't seen it already, give it a watch. Trust me! You'll thank me for it later.👊😂
Yeah, there were some quality scifi actors in this film. The film also features Brett Porter who played the Klingon, General Stex in Star Trek VI The undiscovered country. He was also in Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict.
@@thestoicsoliloquies4041 Wish I still had the vhs. Haven't got a clue what happened to it. Yeah, it's great. Couldn't ask for anything more from a B-movie.👊
@@jasonfarr9252 It was intended to be released on the big screen, back in 89. Unfortunately, I think there was some legal issues and it ended up just releasing on vhs. It's well worth the watch. You can find it on here and tubi.👍
i remember this movie as a rental and it was a rather good go for what i thought was going to be a bad movie. Decent acting, plot, make up was pretty solid.
Armin Shimerman can be easily spotted under any kind of makeup, can't he, lol. They guy is good. I always liked the role he played as a wizard in charmed. Yeah, crazy how many of these went on to become famous scifi actor's.
I rented this on VHS back in the day when it first came out, more than once. This and Robot Jox...anyone remember that one? Great days. They seem a world away now.
Oh, man! I haven't seen Robot Jox in a long time. We certainly were spoilt for choice back then, eh. So many great movies. Even the b-movies were great.👊😂
@@AntoniOrszykowski Arnold says, "DO IT! DO IT NOOOOW! ARGH!" Lol. I left a link to the full movie in the pinned comment. Apparently it is also on Tubi and Prime. You'd probably have to pay for it on prime though.🙌
Hell yeah! Star Trek, Babylon 5, Earth Final Conflict. Great scifi actors. The movie has been uploaded a few times on RU-vid. Free to watch, which is always a bonus. 👊😂
@@brantfrans8595I'm not usually a fan of remakes, but I suppose it could be interesting to see what they could do with it. As long as they had a good mix of practical effects with the CGI.
I remember buying it from the local indoor market, back in 90/91. An old guy had a vhs stall. I would always find some great b-movies there. Those were the day's, eh.🙌
@@koncorde Man, I'd forgotten all about video rental van man, lol. We had one in out area, but i think he was only doing it for a few years. I don't recall seeing him going into the 90s. Yeah, it had a great cover. That's why I originally bought it at the local indoor market, back in 90/91. Seeing steve stood there in his stance, with the menacing alien, Horn above him. Yeah, that cover instantly grabbed my attention. Sold!😂
@@RetroEdUK Edmeister! Yeah, it's a corker. I've been meaning to put it back up for a while. I ended up deleting the last one. Can't ever remember why I did that.😂
@@lostnotfound6969 I certainly enjoyed this as much as Star Wars when I first got the VHS, back in 90/91. I know it's just a cheap B-movie, but I love it. 🙌
I saw ARENA on COMET Channel several years ago and I think it's a really well done, tremendously underrated, low-budget '80s movie. I'd buy it on DVD if I could ever find it.
@@AndrewSnarls Yeah, they did wonders for such a small budget. Yeah, I'd like to get the dvd-blu-ray too. I'm guessing we'll never get a 4k lol. That's a shame.
@@TheRetroManRandySavage Ah sunny Donny! :D .. I played a gig at The Leopard pub there on tour in the 90s with my old band 'Broken Brow'.. Good times! :)
@@preacherjohn I remember the place well. I seen quite a few bands there in the 90s. Went to a few raves there too. It was a good venue. I don't even know if it's still open. I hope so. I left Doncaster in 2002.
@@Pavia1525 Yeah, I didn't think so. I remember Amazon releasing a LOTR series a few year's ago and I heard nothing but bad things so I never watched it. I won't be watching this one either. I'm just patiently waiting for a 2nd season of Fallout. That's the last good show I watched on prime.😂
Arena. I remember seeing this on VHS..I actually liked it. I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I wouldn't mind someone remaking it or doing a sequal..
@@jamestreanor4361 Just watched the trailer. Can't believe I haven't seen it before. I thought I'd seen most 80s movies, lol. Looks like my kind of film. Awesome trailer. I'm gonna see if I can find a physical copy. If not I'll just stream it. Cheers, buddy. I'm glad you mentioned it.👍
@@retroprojections Hell yeah! Not many do it seems. I mean, I know it is a B-Movie, but I thought it would have more of a cult following. I've loved it ever since I found the vhs on a market stall in 1990.
@@DayAntilles it has been uploaded a few times here on RU-vid. I was also told yesterday that it's on Tubi. It's definitely worth the watch, buddy. Quality B-movie.👊
@@TheRetroManRandySavage Doing great buddy hope you are as well! I'll check around for it, I was hoping there was a Mystery Science Theater episode of it!🤣
@@rodsanchez8298 I wish I still did. I bought it from the local indoor market back in 1990/91. Had it for year's, but I'm guessing I threw it away with all my other vhs tapes once I got a dvd player in the late 90s. Big mistake.🤦♂️😂
@@RETROOBLIVION lol. Yeah, I always love seeing these 80s films that are set in the future. They look more 80s than your normal films that were set in the 80s.😂
Oh hell yeah this looks like something I would like for sure bring on the 80s cheese mate haha If i can find this for free to watch somewhere I will 😊😊
Interestingly it's not bad at all. It's clearly a 'B" movie, and yet it's not the "so bad it's good" kind, it's more like, it's not trying to be something it shouldn't, and it makes it thoroughly entertaining.
@@nickwoodfin2690 Yeah, the critics have never been kind about it, it's a good story, the actors are great and look to be really in to it. For a two to three million budget they actually came away making a really good B-movie. A quality B-movie.👊
For some reason I watch this and see a precursor to Babylon 5. A cheap, crappy precursor, but something that inspired its design choices. And no, it's not just Claudia Christianson. It's like watching Alien 4 - and you can't help SEEING the characters from Firefly.
How are you doing today and how your day? How was your weekend? Well its Monday and time to see your gunslinger content. Always great content and always entertaining.
@@stewsretroreviews Flash! Ah-ah. He'll save every one of us. Man, what a film. It must be quite a few year's since I last watched it. It used to always be on at Christmas, didn't it. I definitely need to get the dvd. This film is called Arena. From 1989. It's a B-movie. Great 80s cheese. I remember buying the VHS from Doncaster market in 1990. Haven't a clue what happened to it. Wish I still had it.👊
@TheRetroManRandySavage Yeah, it definitely was set up for a sequel at the end, deserved one, the American audiences weren't interested, so it didn't do well, and it didn't make enough money, it did very well in Europe though, but it wasn't enough, shame really, it had a brilliant cast, it could've been epic!
I knew Claudia Christian had done some bad stuff, and that Bill Mumy had brought some of it to show the B5 cast members, but I;d assumed that the Hexed, I didn't know just how bad it had gotten
@@bocagoodtimes1460 Last time I watched a Star Wars film was in the early to mid 2000s. It was the last of those prequel films. Revenge of the Sith. I tend to just stick with the original trilogy these day's. That's good enough for me.😂
@@DaveMiller2 It's actually a really solid B-movie. They did wonders for the budget they had, which was two to three million dollars. You should definitely check it out.👍
Ai yai yai. Claudia Christian. That's all I'm going to say about that. This was a cheese fest but I liked it. Think I'll dig it out and pop it in the player.
@@michaelarreola4201 I think someone in the comments mentioned that it was similar to a Babylon 5 episode. I certainly don't remember it, but I really want to check it out now.😂🙌
@@TheRetroManRandySavage I still like it as a concept. The right people, a decent budget, no interference from studio pinheads who think they're artists, a great remake could be made. But I wouldn't trust today's filmmakers.
@@slthjawa5062gggghhjjjjjkkkk I hear that, buddy. I haven't any faith in today's film makers either. If they could be trusted to remake 80s movies I'd be all for it, but they seem to ruin just about everything.😂
