Heat is sourced from the coolant. When you'd start your car the thermostat will make sure that the coolant doesn't flow so that the engine can get at operating temperatures quickly. As soon as the coolant hit the appropriate temperature the thermostat lets the coolant to flow through the radiator again. The coolant gets hot when it passes through the engine and in some cars through the automatic transmission. This heat from the coolant is used when you turn the knob to hot mark. Thats why there is no button for heater as opposed to A/C because the compressor needs to be turned on but we have got the heat in abundance from our engine. There is no effect on the mileage whatsover just warm up your car for 2-3 minutes before driving. This will also help the engine and transmission oil to reach operating temperatures as well.

But do many modern cars have the same function of coolant temperature dependant rich/lean mixture decisions by ECU? 3. 1:16 Do Cars have heater coils for HVAC systems? (I am not talking about compression chamber heating elements which can be found in diesel engines.) 4. Also, My Wagon R manual says, you can use heater with fan as a ventilator... But if you use AC as a heater, keeping button to ON position, it helps to keep window glasses clear, because of AC's Dehumidification function. How do you overcome this foggy window situation with keeping compressor OFF? 5. Blower can also be kept on off position for Heater mode to work, try this: Keep Temperature control knob to heat or RED position, keep blower to 0 or off, drive at regular speed, AC switch to OFF position, Air Intake slider/switch to fresh air mode and air flow to face or feet or face+feet. You will get ambient cabin temperature.
Really very useful info Ravi. I have been using AC for heater till now. thought both cool & hot air comes from compressor. Just got to know i have been doing it wrong since then. you have saved a lot of my fuel :)
Sir, i have a grand i10 sep'17 model and would like to know when i switch on the defogger(front) the ac turns on automatically.. is it going to affect mileage like normal ac operation??

Check automatic climate control system function in tigor XZ(o) ... Out of the four blower, the middle two release cool air while the other two release s hot air...is it same in all models??
Sir please tell me that if I start the heater will it supply air from outside because in highways I roll up the windows fully to minimise the drag keeping the AC on. But in winter when we couldn't switch on the AC and need the heater please tell me the way out to keep the oxygen level high if I use the heater instead of AC on highways.

agr normal air chaiye to kya setting krna h...blower on... Ac button off... aur wo thermostat ko bich me (neutral )pe rkhna h ya cooling to neutral tak khi bhi rkh skte?
Sir, meri car (figo 2012) ke manual mein fog hatane ke liye ac(compressor) aur heater dono chalane ko bataya hai and it works most of the time so I do it regularly. Fog hatane ke operation per bhi video bana dijiye please.
Ravi bhai, yeh MPFI hai carburetor nhi..... jo pehle choke se lean mixture de aur optimum temperature pe aane k baad rich , yeh toh cranking k dauran hi appropriate air-fuel ratio de dega agar temp sensor theek ho toh.
Ravi sir agar heater on raha to cabin me or windshield pe or sab glasses per moisturiser ho jate hai is liye us k sath ac bhi on rakhni padti hai ye mera experience hai .

If u turn off compressor while blower is on, the air will be hot but that air will be containing moisture. In very low temperature, it won't defog the windshield from inside. That's why there is a provision to turn on AC along with heater. Secondly, heater uses the waste heat from radiator, so it doesn't really affect fuel consumption as that much heat would be generated even if heater if off.

Pratul Thapar compressor is needed to run the AC system of the car during summer to cool the car or to prevent the fog from clogging up the windshield. Whereas heater does not need any compressor or other thing otherthan the hot-coolant of the car itself.

Use outside air with heater with out ac (ac off). You will see clear glass no fog. No need to open window glass, but use fresh air instead of recirculating air with heater. its normalizes the humidity and remove the fog also keep car warm. I use it daily and never face fog issues

If the compressor is not turned on then there will be humidity build up in the cabin leading to mist formation on the glasses due to difference in temperature in the cabin and outside. Humidity is formed due to our breath
@@farhan_akhtarrr if it's very cold, below 10deg outside(like in Europe and Canada) , the compressor can't compensate for the very cool temperature hitting on the windshield, hence dry air is required from outside
