To me F-16 is simply a iconic of fighter jet. The looks of this jet is beautiful! No fighter can match the sexiness of this epic fighter of all time!

It's the most beautiful jet and it's the king of the dogfight. :3 This masterpiece will hold the highest turn rate of any fighter jet out there and will have energy for days in a close-in dogfight. :)

My late grandfather worked as an engineer for General Dynamics then Lockheed Martin on the F16 program. They lived near the base in Ft Worth. When I would visit them as a kid, you could hear the beautiful sounds of jet engines echoing down their 60's style stone fireplace.

To all those questioning what is going on, I will share. I was a crew chief on the beautiful F-16C/D Block 42 and 52. They are a wonderful aircraft. This is a demo and isn't done on a regular basis. We maintain radio communications during start up as a crew chief while another airman is posted at the front of the aircraft. The JFS starts and things start working. Walking under the exhaust isn't a big deal if you stay low enough. There is also a cushion of air around the jet exhaust and you can slide your hand into the nozzle safely. The other flight checks are for the flight computer and other things. Great job.
@sanfranciscobay
@sanfranciscobay 10 лет назад
What caused the puff of black exhaust that occurs around 2:35, 3:00?
@Rovertsmasher
@Rovertsmasher 9 лет назад
SanFranciscoBay that is most likely the starter turning off since jet engines cant start themselves you also notice a change in sound at the same time which suggests that as well
@sanfranciscobay
@sanfranciscobay 9 лет назад
Trevor Greenen The puff of smoke at 2:35 looks like it is coming from a vent and the puff of smoke at 3:00 looks like it is coming from the exhaust and sounds like he throttles it up past idle, then back down to idle.
@lvref702
@lvref702 9 лет назад
SanFranciscoBay Trevor Greenen is correct. Generally speaking the JFS will spool down and a puff of smoke will shoot out of the exhaust port. In addition as the main engine starts cranking there may be a small puff of smoke due to fuel that is trapped in the lines that is cold and not ready for burn. The JFS is very whiny when in use and the GE or Pratt engine has a completely different sound.
@lvref702

***** I have flown only once in a D model block 42. We didn't fly as crew chiefs due to the single seat aircraft. I was in charge of maintenance of airframe and power plant. We were getting block 52's as I was exiting the USAF. I didn't mess with the avionics at all and only screwed around with them during ops checks during engine runs and fuel transfers.

I've worked on the old CF-101 Voodoos and have started a whole of different fifgters from F-4 Phantoms to the F-14s to F18s and of the bunch the F-16 takes the longest to start with all the ground checks. These guys are doing the quick start version, not what you'd do if you were going into combat. I think the worst one though was the AV8 Harrier of the Marines, 75 gallons of distilled water for thrust augmentation for vertical takeoff, and it set the pavement on fire too.

its mostly the camera angle, its not that small. The aerodynamic shape makes it look small when you look at it from the front.
@LotusVette84
@LotusVette84 9 лет назад
Too me all fighters seem small. I fuel cargo jets for a living. We also fuel any RCAF that land.Usually it is a Hercules, When CF-18's arrive though, I wonder at how tiny they look for all the power they pack.

@Charles Damery, This isn't the quick version of the start up. The combat version of a start up is a FLCS bit in chalks and it's gone. This is about how long a normal launch takes.

It's pageantry; it's supposed to show the professionalism and precision of the crew. To me, it just looks silly. The crew can look all of those things without standing at attention and doing facing movements. No flight line crew in the Air Force does things like this.

I believe the only reason for the two seater F-16s is training. I was a "Crew chiefs assistant "for 9 months in Norway and the only times we used the two seaters was when theytrained somebody new, brought an extra instructor/officer or when some poilitician wanted a ride or a magazine did an article. Luckily we did not look like soldiers on parade when doing the job like those guys in the video.

This is all just fine and dandy when you have nothing else to do, but at Shaw AFB, when we were doing ICT's, Intergrated Combat Turn's, the aircraft would land, in chalks, refuled and rearmed, and back in the air in less than 20 minutes. Besides, all Red Streamer Pin's are pulled at EOR use to the APU on this Aircraft, it puts out a poisonous exhaust that is not seen. This is 10 minutes of dance, Not a real world launch. 363rd TFS, 17 AMU, Shaw AFB, Sumter, SC. (Now 17th TAC Fighter Sq.)
