*MUST SEE* Rare Caltrain EMU Test Train passes Santa Clara w/ a friendly crew 

Ideally by the end of this decade (knock on wood…) CA High Speed Rail will finish from Bakersfield to Merced, and they should hopefully link up to this electrified corridor one day, right?

a simple and inexpensive method to measure the minimum distances as long as electrification is still being worked on and only a small part can theoretically be run with electricity, the time is now used with such tests and a diesel locomotive is used for the movement. The first electric runs will also be made with two old locomotives that were bought second-hand especially for this purpose. Only when these are also successful will the new trains run independently everywhere for the final tests.

Wait a minute in 2:05 why the F40PH has a Electric Headlight/ditchlights or it was Replaced by a Electric one?

As I am not certain that the passengers would have viewing capability trough what I thing I saw a albeit tinted window to the side in the buldhead, I am TOTALLY PLEASED that ffter decades Caltrain finally is pursuing electrification! I have many decades ago tried at their meetings promote electrification but then it went out the other ears! I only hope the reilfans or trainspotters can see the catenary riding on these trains (I am from the country where Stadler is headquartered. We used these trains on the SBB but driver's partition has NO windows for public to see ou front by, that is a shame!

Hopefully they will keep the original F40PH locomotives and gallery cars for the service to Gilroy in 2024

Too bad the Overhead Catenary is only installed from Tamien to Palo Alto; at the present moment!

They should restore it, and run it on the mainline.

And if they do they should overhaul them to extended their service life for like another 20 years or so
