Nothing like Mannix chopin' a goon, outrunnin' a chopper, burnin' toast and swoonin' a doll. Now that was a role model in the day. Thanks so much Fred, for the great memories.
Lots of great memories of those days. For some time I only got to watch the opening of Mannix as it came on at 10pm, my bed time. Had to catch up on many shows in reruns.
Always had to alternate Saturdays with my older sisters watching my favorite Jonny Quest one week, and letting them watch American Bandstand the next. More often than not, it didn't seem work out that way however.
Oh absolutely! Green Acres was the place to be for me back in '69! Except for The Amazing Race, prime time TV today is nothing but trash, junk, and filth!
For most kids, TV watching was as crucial as eating, sleeping, and sandlot sports (baseball and football were played equally), Change and progress are supposed to be for the better, but I'd prefer life in the late 60's or early 70's. The world back then felt safer, easier, with much less stress and violence.
Oh ,to be an innocent 6 year-old again, sometimes I just want to go back and stay there, no longer any aspirations of "when I grow up I wanna be..." It's a cruel world and I'd gladly live my life all over again if I could.
Me too. Though the 60's were a much more turbulent decade than I ever knew at the time, everything seemed to be so fun and colorful. What we long for is not so much a simpler time, but a simpler us.
And in those days, Saturday mornings were just for the kids. But unfortunately, the Saturday morning cartoons are now gone. The only kids' shows that are on Saturday mornings now are the educational ones that the broadcast stations have to air according to the FCC.
If you were a Chicago boy...deduct 1 hour, and consider these local options to replace syndicated shows (in local time) 7:30 BATFINK 8:00 SUPER 6 12:30 HAPPENING '69 (the CBS station preempted between 12 and 1, but a UHF carried MOBY DICK) 3:30 COLLEGE BASKETBALL GAME 4:00 LONE RANGER (the other pre-emption, delayed after a different basketball game) 4:30 UPBEAT (syndicated pop music show) 5:00 Suppertime 5:30 Continued (the options are news, country music, high school academic quiz, and a pre-teen version of AMERICAN BANDSTAND 6:00 JOURNEY TO ADVENTURE (visit to Nepal) Prime time...Malloy and Reed bust a heroin pusher, 99 finds herself working for a KAOS front organization, Ernie is accused of stealing classmates' lunches, the men of Stalag 13 have to neutralize a defector that is also a beautiful woman, a godfather has to be chosen from one of five candidates for the new Bradley granddaughter, and no fewer than 21 people want Mannix to prove a model's death wasn't suicide 10:00 Late night snack (rather than news, a local talk show, or THE HONEYMOONERS) 10:30 MOVIE "The Sword of Lancelot" 12:30 MOVIE "College Confidential" with Mamie Van Doren
Hey Fred you will be seeing a lot of my comments because I have grown children who no longer need me much and this week is hard for me....anniversary of mom and brother passing in the same month a year apart but this brings back fond memories for sure.....thanks for all your posts......
@@FredFlix Thanks Fred probably mentioned it before so sorry to be repeating....I'm such a softie about this stuff as these shows were such a huge part of our family life like for many.I'm so ever grateful to have these as it gives me comfort to remember the good times.💗☺
I was 5 then. Grew up in Long Island. It was a TV junkies paradise 3 network stations and 3 independents. Although in '69 I only remember watching Flipper, Kimba, Speed Racer and Mutual of Omaha.s Wild Kingdom. Spent more time outside. As I got older Batman re runs / Creature Feature and Chiller Theater ruled my Saturday nights
I can remember The CBS Children's Film Festival. It showed movies from all over the world. Czech Republic, The Germany that wasn't Communist, Poland, Sweden., but dubbed in English. I loved those movies.
One day before the sports world shook...one day before Super Bowl III, Jets vs Colts! A junior high classmate still owes me a quarter game bet (go AFL!)-wonder what that would be with interest (48 yr/4 mo/15 da)....LOL!
I was 12 on this date, in 7th grade. I lived in NJ 10 miles NYC so I had the same line up. I don't remember Prince Planet - was that on Channel 9? I rarely watched 9. In my house TV went off after the Bowery Boys on Channel 5, 1:30 at the latest. It didn't come back on until ABC's Wide World of Sports came on - the only sports I watched - I was a nerd. Thanks for the memories!!
13? Hell, I was only 7 and playing "doctor" under the porch with Kim.... didn't get to see much TV then...I was concentrating on my Studies. Signed Doc Harry Hymann Gynecologist
LOL, Right TOMMY??.... are you a Dego too Pisan? Love the Sarcasm Bro, Kim Lee wasn't even born yet... But her name was Kim-Chi Fred, Yeah I got started Early and my Mother caught us and I had to apologize to Kim's Mother... who was a knock out. Kim's father was a Tank built man ... sort of like MR. Clean....Bald head and all... LOL Oh Those were the Days... Archie Bunker was my Grandfather: a WW2 Army Drill Sergeant and forklift operator at Campbell's Soup.....he had his own chair in the corner with a beer in front of the TV and was just as opinionated and hated it if anyone sat in his chair.....
To show you how things have changed, when I was 11-15 if boys and girls were at a party together we would all play spin the bottle. Cut to 30 years later, my daughter, age 15 or so, has a party at our house with boys and girls and they're all geeking out on video games and other computer shit. I even tried to GET them to play spin the bottle and they weren't interested. What has the world come to?
Oh Yes, FRED! True... I was 13 in 1975. It was my Birthday and we played spin the bottle too.... A girl was there who wanted me to be her BF at the time but each time I spun the bottle I kept pegging the FAT ASS whose last name was "TULK"... Tommy would appreciated this... she looked like KIM LEE.... and was probably the inspiration for the SNL skit "PAT" (man or women?) ; P
If 13-year-old boy had a older/younger sister and her own TV, she would've watched skier Jean-Claude Killy schuss down a mountain in the "Killy Style(3:30, CBS) and three bachelorettes vie for 1/3rd of The Mod Squad, Michael Cole on The Dating Game(7:30, ABC)
Hey Fred! That was good! Now I wasn't 13 in '69 I was only 7. Were you 13 old man? Did I say that? I meant older man, lol! However, I do remember the cartoons and most of the tv shows. Hey wait, that makes me kinda old too huh? Well...just a tiny bit! Oh and I like the pictures of the tv dial, nice touch big bro! I definitely remember that! Thanks Fred and keep up the good work! Never mind the two assholes who gave you thumbs down. They don't have good taste anyway!
Actually, Curtis, I'm older than you think. I turned 15 in 1969, not 13. I made our imaginary viewer two years younger than me when this series started so that he could watch Captain Kangaroo and more cartoons (and less news).
FredFlix You...you were 15 in '69?!! Excuse me a moment....dang!!!! 😨 You're almost 10 years older than me!!! Okay I'm better now. ☺ I didn't realize you're that much older. But it's cool and I'm glad to have an older brother with the skills to touch people the way you do. I'm proud of you big bro! Bravo! 👏
FredFlix You're welcome Fred and you know what? I look forward to reach 55 now. After what happened recently with my cousin and knowing you have to take that stuff and I may have to take it soon too. I know life is precious and we should appreciate the time we have here and remember the lives we touch during our lifetime.
Damn!! Saw the "DoDo" come up, thought I didn't remember the show. Then I began singing the theme song out loud to the video!!! Guess I watched DoDo!! Now it'll probably be stuck in my head until who knows when!!
