"The path of righteousness does not invite exceptions." - Dr. Daniel Black And therein lies the problem [politically] with the "leash" of the two-party system (for me). Why must I justify and rationalize that a blue "leash" is acceptable over a red "leash" while simultaneously having to eviscerate my pursuit of "righteousness" in order to do it? What's left of my journey to strive and "press towards the mark" of righteousness if I rationalize supporting political parties within a system that spits in my face, denigrates, marginalizes and undervalues me when I dare question its barbarity, brutality and savagery? Am I even "permitted" to entertain a vision of hoping and longing for a different way of being in the world free from the "freedoms and all of the brutality, lies and savagery that those "freedoms" entail within the American "leashes" of the zero-sum system (religion) of whiteness? Professor Hunter, I'm an older American Black man and if I had to pick just one attribute that I have loved and witnessed about Black people for most of my life then it would be our humanity! It's the one thing that was passed on to me that I cherish that I want to hold on to at all cost. I think of it as the best part of "Africa" that lives in me and I struggle with maintaining "it" versus transitioning to becoming a "NEGROPIAN" (the worst attributes of American capitalism and chattel slavery). Professor Hunter, I will state that I understand the rational argument, given the two party system, candidate (third party) viability and the electoral college that voting for the Democratic Party is the best option in that narrow context. However, I'm not willing to eviscerate pursuing "righteousness" in submission to a Blue or Red "leash" at the expense of my humanity. I want to live with both my brain and my heart. I cannot tear out my heart and continue to exist with only a brain. I want to wake up after election day and I still want to be able to cry when I see Palestinian people being murdered by the IDF at Netanyahu's command with the "unwavering" support of Biden and the Commodified Political Class (CPC). I want to be able to cry when I see Israelis murdered by Hamas. I desire to and I AM going to "cling to" what I'll term "Black Greatness", my HUMANITY!!! 🙂I want to be great by that standard. "Vote Blue No Matter Who" is not an option for me in 2024. I'm not voting to support racism, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and war crimes in favor of commodified politicians "on the Left" at the expense of my humanity, the Palestinian people and world peace. One Love! 🙂

I ascribe the notion of ' high character' that Dr Black spoke of to the spirit of Elijah McClain who was murdered in 2019 by law enforcement. Even when he was being accosted and manhandled by them he was showing high character (and an unusual amount of goodness and grace)when he apologized for vomiting after being put into a choke hold. We stand on that goodness and grace that has been passed down to us over the centuries. We pray for our enemies!

Ok. I had to watch this twice and may need a third. I love listening to Prof. Hunter and Dr. Black talk, it takes time to digest. So, "Proliferation of Proverbs and high character" are connected to a proliferation of giving. The tension of living in a capitalist framework and trying to break free of materialism is a heavy task. "God can't use your stuff!" Speak on it!

Dr. Black, can we have a short primer on the historical relationship between Blacks and native Americans?? I think that thing can go a couple different ways depending on who is interpreting that statement right there.

In watching the events of the past months several parallels could be drawn. Terms used: Occupied, Segregation, Apartheid, Gentrification, Genocide, Cultural Genocide, Incarceration, Open air Prison, attacks/murder of leadership, attacks/murder of the professional class, stereotypes, categorizations; animal, terrorist, also as applied to women and children, deprived of water, deprived of healthcare, deprived of governance, communities bombed, homes taken, farms taken by settlers... Just recalling some of the words that stuck as I heard them these past months. BTW, these laws to incarcerate the unemployed existed in eugenics, which influenced Hitler.

"High character". I understand the concept, and quite frankly - I had the same question Prof Hunter asked: isn't that a manufactured concept to keep us in bondage? If the Africans had it prior to colonization, why didn't the Native (Indigenous) peoples on this continent have it? They fought back against the colonizers until they were basically eradicated - did they have less character because they chose not to turn the other cheek? I have to say, Im struggling with this concept (Dr. Black ALWAYS challenges my thinking 🙂). Perhaps it was less about character with enslaved Africans once they were 'freed' and more about survival.

My Question is how do you Free a people.. with no resources? Many of our people starved to death because they didn't have money for food. They were "freed" with only the clothes on their backs. Many remained or returned to the plantations because they had nowhere to go. Were we ever really "Freed" ???
