This is a talk-lecture that needs to go "viral." It needs hearing everywhere now that we're approaching the November election. Too many conservatives out there are so complacent and ignorant (hence afraid of change) and led along everyday by FOX & friends. Richard Wolff was on FOX recently and they basically laughed at him, called him "comrade," made predictable references to Trotsky and Lenin, etc. It's a thick wall of ignorance we need to crack if there's going to be any reform in this country.

@pigofapilot1 8 лет назад
pjamesbda Exactly,I'm astounded that a system (corporate capitalism) that has plunged the world into two great depressions is allowed to continue unchecked. Democracy was hijacked by corporate capitalism long ago and wealth now trumps democracy. Are the politicians asleep on the job or just puppets of the corporations? Democracy was put in place to protect the masses from the excesses via the ballot box. For that reason, corporate capitalists fall over themselves to finance politicians and 'buy' elections. They fear true democracy like the plague.
@pjamesbda
@pjamesbda 8 лет назад
pigofapilot1 Absolutely - - redistricting and voter requirements are some other tools. But as you point out, by far and away the most effective tool is the "futility factor". Creating a atmosphere of utter futility drives people into a sense of despair. And then, they just give up. That is, after a fashion the first step. We absolutely DO need to "give up" on a failed system model. And instead of this idea of fixing it (which by the way, is another tool - remember the conserv. base saying the ACA just needed "fixing") - we need to throw out for profit health care, public utilities and all the other infrastructure issues we've already F'ing well paid for 2 or 3 times over. We need to understand we have rights; to work, to have clean shelter we can afford, health car and descent nutrition. These are non-negotiable...period.

We in the U.S. have been left in the dark about the qualities of democratic socialism. The grade school and university curricula are set by the 1% to make sure that we do not understand what is happening to us in the workplace and why. Capitalism succeeded in the 1950s only because we were untouched by the war. The breakdown of capitalism's promise for a reasonably stable and reliable life style has disappeared for the majority of workers.

What are you talking about? Wisdom? Intellect? I could give 3 Marx quotes that prove he was a train wreck. And two of three daughters of Marx committed suicide. He said "the last capitalist we will hang will be the one that sold us the rope". Thats who these two clowns revere? C'mon.... There is no legitimate argument that Marx is sometime of social expert... If anything, the people who followed Marx and got into power killed millions following EXACTLY what Marx prescribed. Beyond pathetic.

Googily Moogily Because Marx said “the last capitalist we hang will be the one that sold us the rope” , because he called for overthrowing society by force rather than peacefully creating ESOPs and competing with capitalism. Marxism is Evil to the core and he ran his personal life as a selfish , evil bully. To see people cherry pick this animals quotes and to pretend Marxism is legit is a danger. Millions died trying to follow Marxs exact words of force. Don’t tell me that Mau, Stalin, Pol Pot or Lenin did it wrong. Marx was the Charlie Manson of economics.

Great interview, brilliant duo to interview, however I think it could be improved by slowing the pace a fair bit, especially with two interviewees with so much wisdom to share. Felt like too often they were only just getting started answering the questions before the subject was changed or a new question was asked. Trying to have a short-form interview with just one of these guys is never good enough; short-form with both of them at once?! It’ll never be enough! This coulda been extended to a 2-3 hour long-form discussion & still every minute would be golden. Anyway, glad to have found this channel. Very interesting content, I hope to see you thriving and succeeding!

Thomas Rosati It depends on what form of socialism each country uses. There’s communism, plain socialism, authoritarian socialism, democratic socialism and social democracy. I’m sure there are more versions but those are the ones I know. FWI, they do not mean the same thing. Also, your half right in that some countries have failed with socialism like Cuba and yes Venezuela (though that country has other problems too) but others like Sweden, Denmark, France, and Scandinavia are doing well with it as well.

One correction here, feudalism was not replaced by capitalism. It was replaced by neo-feudalism. Consider that the general public regards the State as the superior Sovereign and Political superiors their nobility. Remember Dr Wolff, most politicians hold 'Titles of Nobility' the Chief of State has legally the same "King's prerogative" the same way the UK has its monarchy. Only the name of the title has changes. In thr UK the parliament is just like the judiciary and legislative brances of the U. S. government - -they serve an advisory role.👌💯👍

Problem with collective decision making is nothing ever happens and everything ends up in chaos. Leadership is the rarest quality and collective mentality discourages it. And that's the worst recipe for entrepreneurship. The real problem is the screwed banking / political system and a selected few steamrolling their way through all law and legislation all over the world. It''s global but originating in USA and Europe. This is a power shift from the west to the east. I never seen Richard addressing the real problem head on. I wonder why.

And if you say yes why? Link- backed only. 2... where the f*** do you get off making a statement that Cornel West does sleep with women, when you have nothing to back up the claim. That is straightforward slander. It makes one seriously question if you have anything honest or sincere or factual to offer. Right? We live in a republic, where you vote for representatives. One of their arguments is that a business should be a democracy because we live in one. For 2 smart guys I'm shocked by that argument as it's clearly not accurate. Maybe they could vote for a CEO and then that CEO would make decisions on behalf of the people. That would more accurately mirror our society, and actually kind of already happens in a lot companies. Members of the board get elected, then they oversee. I wonder how many people would still be willing to risk their life savings to start a company if the employees got to vote on how the company was ran. Both of these gentlemen are brilliant people but the heart has no logic.
@alexloomis2398
@alexloomis2398 2 года назад
Members of the board don't have the best interests of the public, city, state , or country at heart, and they certainly don't have the workers interests either. If their profits overlap with those interests; sure, but they rarely do. After awhile all they do is invest money. Often to the detriment to whichever country ,society, culture, and/or ecology they insist.
@redcisco8579
@redcisco8579 2 года назад
@@alexloomis2398 If it's a publicly traded company the board has the interest of the public that has invested in it at heart. Whatever device you watched this video on then replied with was no doubt built by a very large company with big profits. Most of the best technology that makes our lives better and easier, saves our lives, and so on is made, developed, produced, researched by large companies with big wallets. To say that they never have the public's interest at heart is very clearly wrong. Businesses exist to make money, that doesn't mean they are evil if they are successful. Certainly just because a group of workers has more control over a company does not mean they will have the best interest of the city, state, or public at heart either. They will most likely fail, and do less good for all of those things.

Lenin was way more than just good ideas. He was a profound Marxist theoretician, both in the broader sense, but especially in the dialectics between theory, practice and organisation. He was unmatched in understanding the development of Russian society and what needed to be done. Unfortunately, The civil war, which was armed and defended by the strongest imperialist powers of the time, the destruction of most Bolshevik cadres and the dispersal of the remaining ones, famine, demoralisation, Stalin’s degeneration and struggle against the party’s revolutionary wing, Lenin’s incapacitation and eventual death, opening it up to just anyone and and murder, underdevelopment and mass social and economic dislocation caused by 7 years of war. There is so much unjustly blamed on Lenin and much of his work was either destroyed, misunderstood or distorted by the Stalinist counterrevolution. It’s incumbent on all revolutionaries to read, re-read and properly understand his works.

Really love the bit about the restaurant. Though in place, "for our own good", the red tape and licensing really makes it difficult to start a small "cottage" business. More people would be self-reliant if they could do this without so many barriers. In my area, one would have to rent a commercial kitchen to make any food for resale. Not worth it for a small start-up or side-gig. Yes I know the rules are there for health and safety. Still...

I remember Thatcher in the UK selling off council houses for pennies in the pound, because she knew the mentality of some of the working class. Those that bought their council house thought of themselves as a cut above their neighbour, and thought they were on their way to becoming part of the aspiring middle class, and so voted for Thatcher. 20 years on, and a lot of easy money later, most of the younger generation can’t afford a house.. and no social housing has been built. And Thatchers government pocketed the proceeds in order to make people think the Conservatives were brilliant at balancing the books. A complete con, but the working class keep letting themselves and the rest of us down.

Individuals can work cooperatively toward a common goal or on a group project like a worker's co-op. We as individuals worked together in order to grow food and the other things we needed to do very comfortably. In the better ones we were very democratic and they were socialist enterprises. Some of us also worked individually in our spare time doing crafts, art and writing. Others were talented musicians. It was a good time while it lasted for many of us. It would be nice to do something similar now. A bunch of older horsemen have been talking about getting a property together and working cooperatively to help each other with horse care and other daily life work and generally look out for each other. I don't know if it will ever materialize but I would hope to include people of all ages.
