what is your opinion on plant based plastics?

There was a time in life when there was very little plastic used. So yes, we could go back. But would it be worth it. It's better to reuse plastic instead of putting it in our landfills.

And I couldn't do my hobby of polymer clay crafting! Screw that, too much stuff would be gone. I'm not gonna play this game! They can go live on an uncharted desert island somewhere with no plastic. Or gas stoves, or electric stoves for that matter. These ppl never THINK.

All plastics and rubber are manufactured using petroleum. There would be no indoor plumbing or electricity in 95% of homes without those two products. Beeswax wraps instead of plastic ones. Hemp plastic is biodegradable, but oil companies and this spokesperson of theirs wouldn't like that, would they? Food delivery can be done in paper or bamboo containers. It can also be done in stainless steel containers and the delivery person can request the customer to empty the container and give it back. Or people can be charged for the steel container and they can get their money back when they return it to the restaurant. And if they just throw it away, it can be easily recycled. Sometimes we have to make changes in our cultures and behaviors as well. There are tons of other alternatives also. We're definitely not as reliant on oil plastics as this guy makes it out to be.

Just a curious question: all the items you describe can easily be transported by trucks or ships, so there are alternatives to trains. However, assuming you are from the US where I know lots of goods are indeed transported by trains: is it really such in the US that trains play such a vital role in the distribution of goods? Here in western Europe trains are only used for the bulk transport of raw materials, but very rarely for finished (consumer) products.

Most people, including the self-proclaimed “sensible” people all over this comments section,have no understanding over why you would prefer one material over another and the impacts of its production and the positive effects that environmental activists can have on improving its usage. We have a crisis currently of plastic pollution, one that’s been (we now know, knowingly) perpetuated by the plastic industry’s greenwashing of the recyclability of plastics. _Even worse,_ this includes fluorinated plastics that will essentially never, ever break down, are in everything from clothing to food containers, and will slowly build up in the environment without significant action.

The problem is there's things we could make without plastic or less plastic, but the products aren't being made that way. So much food product uses excessive plastic making it impossible unless you have your own restorative farm. If I buy a PC part the packaging is excessive plastic, it just never ends.

It is also less safe when it shatters (something like pebbles that is thrown by vehicles) in front of my eyes. It is also not very possible to bring glass bottles around due to the very same reasons. It also cannot replace plastic in various other uses like pipes, cars, tapes, etc. But we do reach an agreement that we could try to decrease the proportion of plastic in our items, and opt for more durable items rather than flimsy plastic versions. The thing is, she's right. If people *have* more opportunity to move up, it makes everything better. It's astonishing how many liberals seem to think the answer is always more taxes on the wealthy.... but it's the wealthy that invest in areas. High crime rates and high taxes don't actually help anyone.
