Thanks Alister for imparting your wisdom and passion. There is nothing better than having the inspiration and excitement of walking out of your front door and immersing yourself in the great doors. I know it is a bit of a cliche but being at one with nature really does bring a happiness and peace like nothing else.
I'm still writing my book with lots more that I'd like to write - I just hope I have enough space! Great to meet you at the show and a pleasant surprise.
Well said, Alister, I totally agree and would like to add, that it’s very sound to be thankful for the opportunity to live your passions and to write your own book. I think thankfulness is a great motivator. Kind regards and thank you very much!
Very interesting video and totally agree about passion being a driving force and love the idea of life being about filling a book. My passion is for the beautiful island of Corsica where I lived and worked for 12 years photographing the landscape around me. I would like to publish a book of my photos from the island but am struggling to find a publishing option that is not ridiculously expensive. I’d be really interested in hearing about how you went about producing , publishing and distributing your book. Any info would be very much appreciated. Keep up the great work.
Many thanks for the kind words. If you want to self-publish a photo book and have high quality then all options are expensive. We spent an insane amount of money on Out of Darkness and only broke even after selling over 600 copies! It really is a for the love project unless you have a huge following. It’s a shame, because there is so much value in making a book, I loved the process. Good luck with it 🙏
Hi some great thoughts as always! after watching your videos it always gets my mind in deep thinking ! I feel I am still at the beginning of my book still experimenting and exploring those senses and emotions in my surroundings, amazingly beautiful scenery where you are,my place is The Quantock Hills in Somerset. best wishes Anthony
Ah yes there is more to making meaningful images that learning technical tricks…it requires both passion for and commitment to a photographic subject that one feels passionate about! Good advice Alister, good advice!
Another great aspirational video. I must admit, I was hoping for your recommendation of a book containing all the answers to life. Or at least recommending that we reread Finnegans Wake. Cheers and be well. See you in the EP Forum.
If you know the number of pages you have to write, you may make different choices. Asking the question what would I do if I stayed 3 years, 3 months, 3 days is an interesting exercise. The answer that comes to me right away: take refuge in the heart of Christ. I can't get over it. I don't understand this answer at the moment. Is it related to the passion you talked about?
Hello Pascal, your answer is definitely worthy of further thought! The most important book. Alister asked "Can images mirror your inner state?" I replied "absolutely!" I've realized it is written in some way in nearly all of my photos. I worship the Creator and not the creation. I credit the artist and not the painting. A journey out of darkness. ❤
For each of us the answer is different, but more to the point, we need to live today for today, even if it is in service to a higher power, or some other passion. Life is for living, valuing and sharing our love and passions
