Door lock actuator failure is a common problem for older Fox Body Mustangs with power locks. If you're door locks are stuck and nothing happens when you hit the lock or unlock button, your actuator is most likely faulty and needs replacement. While replacing the door lock actuator in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 or 1993 Mustangs with Power Door Locks can be an intimidating job, when done properly, it really can be pretty simple and only require a little bit of time and hand tools.
This is a universal type door lock actuator which will include several different rods to suit many applications. You will need to use the shortest rod that comes with it.

Thanks, I followed this step by step and had no problems. All your videos are great for Fox owners that don't want to pay for all the minor repairs that come up on 20+ year old cars.

This seems to be exactly the se setup on my 1994 Ford Tempo, they're all four frozen in the unlocked position. The previous owner said she never locked the car so I'm sure that's why. Thanks so much for the video.

This might help someone, when i replaced mi actuators the first time years ago and had limited funds,i actually put a screw in there to hold the actuator with a lock washer after i drilled the rivet out,it worked great and 20 years later and a few more actuators replaced i'm still using the screw, funny thing is, i actually now own a really nice big rivet gun but the screws works fine,i used a screw that was as close to the hole size after you remove the rivet, i put the screw in thru the inside of the bracket hole by tilting the actuator and i used a lock washer with a nut on the outside,works great.

1996 ford f350 crew cab rear passenger side lock actuator. As per a utube video, i replaced the broken actuator with a new fox body lock actuator. I had to install the long arm from the original actuator into the new actuator.. I installed this actuator and it will not lock or unlock the mechanism. If I disconnect it, the actuator pushes and pulls the long arm up and down fine. But as soon as I install it to the lock mechanism it does not work. Do you have any suggestions. curt

Great vid my door pin on my passenger side door is stuck and wont lock manually or with the power door lock.Also the key wont turn when i use my key.Is it the acuator or could it be anything else?Any help would be appreciated.

Bill, both of mt lock actuators are worn out. Luckily my driver side was in the unlock position, but my passenger side is stuck in the lock position. What advice would you suggest getting to it? I cannot open the door.

If you remove the door panel and disconnect the rod to the actuator you can remove it by hand. Its hard to do in the car but you can get the panel off and get in there.

just a note to anyone screaming at the bracket like i was, pushing the bracket back with a pliers in the gap worked far better than a screwdriver for me

The video is a little misleading. In the video it says to pry a screw driver against the actuator and the bracket, if you do this you will leave behind a black plastic ring that holds the unit to the bracket making it impossible to just click the new unit into place. If you use this method to remove the actuator you will have to use the same method to install the new one.

Those after market 1's I had 2 brand new in the plastic bag they came with the car I bought I tried 1 didn't have enough power to push the lock I open the other 1 up same thing it would lock or unlock!! So my passengers side I lock it by hand I have a 92 GT I am going to take the OEM out the GT in use it on my notch!! Either way might just go ahead in not even worry about power locks buy them in they don't work!

sooo what would you do, for instance my actuator gave out whrn i closed and locked my car and now it won't unlock? so its pretty much stuck closed

‼️‼️For anyone with the actuator stuck in the locked position‼️‼️ Soak the top of the actuator with WD-40 and pull the handle/press unlock button.

My actuator in my 88 mustang went out in the locked position on the passenger side, I cant get the door open to fix it..what do I do?

bammfiveo take passemger seat out so you can remove the door panel and unlock it manually from inside the door then you will be able to open the door and have room to work.
