What's it like to drive a 435hp Mustang GT with a manual transmission in the rain? Watch me babble on endlessly like an idiot as I break the tires loose and make some noise.
Your car is not boring, it's exciting and gives much happiness, I guess. Sounds are like thunder and we can feel the power! Manual transmission is the best for muscle and sport cars, man must have right to choose himself which gear he select. GREAT CAR!
I've never had trouble driving my GT in the rain, I just, shift early, stay gentle on the pedal, and keep the rpm's and horses low. I also got the premium pack so there is a preset driving mode for the rain in the 2015 and up. On the other hand, who cares, like you said, these things were made for people who like to have fun on the road!
Thanks for these videos! Something I noticed: you may find overall driving and shifting this car easier sitting further forward a couple inches. Generally you don't want your leg straight when you push the clutch in and your's almost is. You get better control with a bent knee. The other thing related is that going forward will keep your arms at your elbows closer to 90 deg when you hold the wheel, which is better for car control. Clearly you've driven many a manual transmission car and are adept, but I've had some folks teach me things (performance driving classes and such) that I wouldn't have known to try before.
I'll offer you a tip though. If yours has the performance pack option, get rid of those Pirrelli tires as soon as you can. They have sub-par traction ratings and they'll only last about a year-year and a half. I upgraded mine to Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They will give 20% more traction with 50-70% longer tread life... and they're $100 per tire cheaper than what the dealership will charge you for direct replacement Pirrelli P Zeros.
+Guy Gordon thank you so much! That is very good advice, indeed. I'm actually going to copy-paste this comment and email it to myself for when it comes time to replace tires. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment here. :)
Guy Gordon i almost wiped out bad in the rain last night on the p zeros (the weathers also getting cool by me & it was completely my fault). do u notice an improvement in the wet with the michelins?
After I swapped out the P Zeros in the rear on my 15 for some Sumitomo tires I noticed a significant increase in wet traction. I love the way this generation of mustang handle in wet weathers verses my previous 2012 mustang...rough pavement + wet weather u were uncomfortably tail happy. this car is like dr jekyll and mr hyde...act like u have sense and its smooth like a true grand touring coupe...but play with it and u can it toss around controllably all day with smile cheek to cheek.
in processes of purchasing my first mustang its a 2014. It will be like you said my 1st baby and a lot of my friends said not to get a mustang because its "BAD" in rain and snow. but ive done a lot of maturing and i would not want to do anything to risk putting myself or others and the car in danger. thanks for the insight as well!
my dad has one, i just took it out for the 2nd time with wet roads and light rain. What a horrible car for north east, anything upsets the rear end of this car ! I got onto it going down the on ramp, and nearly wiped out, with TCS on. It lost power, then tcs let go and the tires caught, accelerated then spun and I almost spilled the beans. I am a motorcycle guy, had sport bikes since I was young, as long as they are upright you can nail the throttle and they do totally fine in rain for the most part. My favorite part about the GT is the sound, it sounds epic. My dad also had the 2008 Bullit which I drove a lot more of. The Bullit was far better on wet surfaces, less torque softer springs. I used to be big into V8's and RWD but after owning a Focus ST I could easily beat any mustang on windy road. I currently drive a hyundai kona ( AWD for snow ) but would prob just get another sport bike for performance and sound, over the mustang.
@@aronicerda520 Summer tires give you maximum grip for the street in the dry AND wet. They're literally designed to prevent hydroplaning in heavy rain. They're not good when the weather gets cold, so most people who run them either live in a warm area all year long, or switch them out for snow tires for the winter. Did you assume it doesn't rain the summer?
Thank you for posting sounds awesome. Rains all the while here in the uk and just ordered the 5 litre V8. Gonna have to be very careful on the gas pedal. I test drove one with the dealer on a stormy day and I managed ok but will definitely take on board your advice. Subbed and liked. Thank you
Stew Vlogs How are you getting on with it mate? I'm looking to buy one myself once my current car's warranty runs out. I'm always a bit nervy with RWD on a wet road.
I drive 13' GT in snow. TC is very nice in mustang it lets you be in control without causing excessive understeer. So it is not overly aggressive which means that you can spin this car with TC on if you really try.
I drive a 900+hp S550... I Think it's funny that it has a traction control. It was pretty handy before I modified mine, but now... doesn't matter. I can do doughnut in the car with the wet weather mode enabled :) Then again, I'm pushing almost 800ft/lb of torque at 6,000rpm
Wow i average 15.5 in my 16 gt. 11 seems low. Also do u notice that when your car is cold while driving the exhaust is alot louder until the engine warms up fully? It might just be me because i have longtubes, just wondering if you experience that as well
+VMPNZ Thanks. Before adding warranty and maintenance, etc. it was just about 40k. I got a discount, or it would be about 42k with all the options I selected.
Hey, nice vid. I'm going to be buying a 2016 gt at the end of the year, but I'm torn as to whether i should buy the auto or manual. The problem is that I have very little experience on a manual. Would this car be reasonable to "get good" on?
get the manual this car has alot of driving aides to make it very easy for beginners to master manual. the strong low end torque means the car is easier to move off and easier to drive in traffic without stalling. it also has hillstart assist where the car knows it's on an incline and holds the brakes for 5 seconds so you can get off the brakes and unto the gas
I agree. It's literally the easiest manual I've ever driven. You'll spin the tires a bit learning how to take off in 1st, but that's half the fun! And hill start assist is friggin' awesome. I wish they had that technology in 1995 when I learned how to drive on my mom's 1980 Honda Accord 5 speed. :)
Yeah, my previous Mustang was a 1989 GT with the old clunky T5 MT. That thing felt like it was full of rusty water and BBs! So this new Chinese 6 speed feels smooth in comparison. But in contrast to my 2002 BMW 325i, the new Stang MT is a bit notchy and noisy. It makes some minor whining / grinding sounds, especially at low RPM in 2nd. From what I hear, that's normal and can easily be eliminated with some thicker gear oil. :)
bad weight balance. Corvette has transaxle with 49/51 and still problems on wet surface to launch. over 300 hp an AWD does much better and is more safe !
I think the v8 mustang should do 70mph in second at redline my ecoboost mustang in uk does 60mph in second, savage acceleration from 30 to 60 in second gear it breaks lose in the wet even in 3rd gear if your not careful, best fun is in dry weather 😀👍, we have cold icy winters here in uk so really have to drive the mustang like eggs under pedals when snow and ice maybe 10 percent throttle when below zero, i have summer perrelli pzeros on mine and managed thru winter snow ice and wet weather no slides or nothing with a gentle foot an good clutch control and anticipation. Hopefully getting a 2020 v8 manual in grabber lime soon going next week to dealership to see so cant wait to see what v8 drives like 😀👍👍. Good review in the wet weather man keep what u said in mind about rear braking loose after a third throttle 🤞🤞👍👍👍
I have a new GT350 and haven't driven it in the rain yet. Some say with traction control on it is really hard to crash these cars. So I guess the idiots crashing on youtube all had it off or they just floored it without thinking. Your thoughts?
The stock pirelli is one of the worst summer tires out there. They have gone down hill. I just got 2 pilot sport 4s for the rear and 2 sumitomo hrz 3s in the front. The sumi is ok but i had my tire go out of round. The PS4 grips so good in the rain and its quiet.
ever since I drove my buddy's 2016 5.0 California special, I've been wanting this more and more everyday! I use to want a Camara, but I think I've changed my point of interest going 0-80 in 3.8 seconds haha
+Jay Neal I've gotten a few hater / troll comments about my aversion to automatics. Bottom line: it's a personal preference. I like driving a manual, not because it's "faster". I don't race. I drive for fun. Shifting and hearing the exhaust is fun. If I just wanted to go fast and shave a couple of 10ths off my quarter mile, then maybe I'd buy an auto. But to me, I'd lose more in enjoyment than I'd gain in speed.
you know the premium Mustang GT has a driving mode for track , snow, rainy conditions at least my 2015 GT does in CT it comes in handy for a daily driver
+no213 Hahaha, "Nicholas Cage"...I'll have to tell my wife that one. It must be the receding hairline, lol. You will be so glad you got a Mustang GT. Best car I've owned by a long, long shot....so far. :) Enjoy and thanks for the subscribe.
+Ari Cohen ... I see, maybe to be safer on turns in rain the wet/snow mode would be good to have on. It reduces throttle response from 100% to 70% I think, basically recusing the amount of power to the wheels, which is exactly what is needed in rain, especially rain mixed with oils on the road from other cars. I think if you try it you might like it in rainy situations. By the way, the color scheme of your mustang, Guard Green and Dark Saddle, great combinations of colors! Great taste... that combination is classy yet aggressive, love it.
Pretty cool vids even thou I have a challenger srt manual of course I love the stang to just thought I would let you know it's not good to rest your hand on the shifter while driving saw that in your vid about the camera holder, puts pressure on the gears look it up. You just might be getting another subscriber soon will be watching.
Thanks buddy! I appreciate the tip. I have to un-train my bad habits. Dude, it was a toss-up between the Mustang and the SRT Challenger. Maybe that will be my next "family" car. I could use the the extra room. :)
Hurry up with the Drive by shots mate, just got my car after a 10 month wait here in the UK, got the same exhaust set up as you but mines sat next to me in the bedroom rather than under the car, only got the car a few days back so haven't got round to fitting it.
I know, I'm horrible! I've been traveling for business almost as much as I've been at home so I barely drive the car. I really want to get those drive-by and burnout videos done within the next 2 weeks.
To be honest, I may have exaggerated a little bit. :) It is easy to slip the tires in the rain with standard trac control, but it's pretty easy to not spin them too. The RPM is about 2500-3k and half throttle. I'm sure if I put it in "rain / snow" mode this would be a moot video. :)
I wrecked my 2003 v6 mustang with 16 inch gt tires in the rain trying to stop on the high way for a bus stop with a car and slid right into her but anti locks prolly would’ve saved me haha
+Ari Cohen Not sure if I'd say pointless. If ever you are driving and you notice the oil pressure is low, you need to pull over and shut the engine down, as that means there is a problem. The Boost gauge is also useful as it's a quick reference to make sure everything with the supercharger is doing what it's supposed to do. I have a 2005 Roush Mustang (highly modified) and added both of those gauges, as you can never have too much info about what's going on under the hood. :)
Steven Conlin Jr very true. I should have qualified my statement. The oil pressure gauge is extraneous when you have a modern computerized engine management system. I'd notice the bright "Check Engine" light, "Oil" light and incessant dinging sounds way before I ever noticed a low oil pressure gauge sitting in the middle of my air vents. :)
+Ari Cohen No worries. I just hope your oil light isn't like the one in the 2005 Mustang...it doesn't come on until it's too late. With a gauge, you may be able to see the drop in pressure and potentially shut it down before something catastrophic happens. With the dash lights, it doesn't give you any sign of impending problems. Well, atleast in the 05 it doesn't. In your model / year, I can't say for sure. Either way, you can never have too much information about what's going on under the hood. Keep the shiny side up! :)
Hi David, Thanks for the comment. Manual or Auto is very subjective. Some people love autos due to the ease of driving and faster shifting. With the modern transmissions, I think the autos are generally a bit faster too. I, however, do not care about shaving a few tenths of my quarter mile times because I don't race. I cruise and commute. I love the manual transmission and the way it shifts. I would personally never buy a Mustang with an automatic. For me, autos are great for family cars, SUVs and pick-up trucks, but not for sports cars. Many people disagree with me and I understand why they do. But the bottom line for me is the fun factor. The manual trans is just more enjoyable and more fun -- based on my needs and wants.
Ari Cohen Thanks for the detailed response! I think I've made up my mind.. I'm gonna go with a manual! Been thinking about it all day today lol! There really IS no point in getting a new V8 Mustang and getting the auto transmission, I'm sure people would be telling me that all the time too if I did lol
wow!!!😯😯 11 mpg in city driving ???? you must be driving it pretty hard...... i get around 16 to 18 mpg and i drive my mustang grandpa slow kind of type but when I'm deliberate with my throttle application i get around 9 to 11 mpg but then again who buy a mustang gt to talk about miles per gallon and economy right ????????😉😉
huh? I have a 2015 Mustang GT with 6 speed manual , let me say I am not perfect but I have driven a tractor- trailer for over 40 years. My Mustang has 3:31 gear. new set of Uniroyal tiger paws, none of those so called summer tires, mine are all weather. First thing I do when I get in is turn off the advance trac, rain or shine. It has more power. I dont think about going half way down on gas pedal , here a cop would be sitting there and give you a ticket in a minute if you spin. I have never had any problem with anything I have driven . I have driven it in downpours but with sense. Also about your gas mileage I have heard all kinds of stories. I get almost 23 where ever I drive. So, this is my comment hope I didnot step on any one but the truth is the truth
Pirelli p zeros. also is this the first time you've driven red? you don't stomp the throttle like that unless you want to spin the car. And yes your fuel mileage sucks because of how you drive it.
+cyberspd yeah, but it's a heck of a lot better than parking it under a tree, like I had to do at my old place with my old BMW. That sun + rain + tree shit just destroyed the paint.
I just got the same car here in the uk...guard with saddle GT, only mine is auto due to a knee injury......I have the borla touring on mine, fitted on the second day of ownership.....just has 400 miles on it, so still learning the car.... But honestly, after my TVR's this car is a pussy cat..
+big500 congratulations! Sorry to hear about your knee. I was in a motorcycle accident last year and fractured my neck...I was very lucky to survive. So, no more bikes for me. The Mustang is filling that void quite nicely! :)
+3star2nr always feed or roll unto the throttle. It's like Jackie Stewart said, a powerful car is like walking up on a bad dog. If you surprise it it will get scared and bite you. If you talk to it gently on the way up to the gate chances are it won't hurt you.
what is going on, is that ur first car, wow a new toy for the boy, every one is doing that car, I gut one and I gut 4 that are better. u guys should at least let us see the road not ur face, no one wants to see that , I don't I show the road, it makes a better video, I was told.
