I got my hands on a 2004 Mustang Mach 1 in Competition Orange. The power in this car is still impressive for how old it is but the suspension setup really dates the car. Enjoy the video! Music: forrestdel.bandcamp.com
Saving up for one now. Torch red. To me it's the nicest looking mustang of the past few decades. The light colors with the black decals, chin spoiler, shaker scoop on top of what is still the most aggressive mustang design just comes together for a beautiful car.
I like your review and looks like you had a fun time. The Mach is a good time and just lots of fun to drive. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but just serious power planted to the pavement. The wiggle may need to be adjusted. I know I have mine planted and can hug corners like crazy. That 4.6 can push you trough some insane turns. Glad to see your review!
I’ve got a 2004 Oxford white Mach. 4.10 gears, CAI, Bassani Off-road x pipe w/ borla s type, and 106400 comp cams. That sumbitch will haul ass and it’s such an awesome car. ZERO regrets buying it.🐎🐎
For the past 3 years, I've been hoping to find a cherry 2004 in Oxford White. This is one of the few cars that have SOUL and absolutely makes my heart melt every time I see/hear one. I have yet to drive one :/
@@Gjeebs I apologize for my comment. This car was top dog behind the 03 04 cobras. Of course it's out dated as it is almost a classic. Every year they make cars with more horsepower and faster. This cat will be a collectable for sure.
Pretty good review. I appreciated you having done your research and some of the details (brembo breaks, sharing some internals with the 5.4, etc.) you share that many are unaware of. A true 150+ / 13 second car that is streetable enough to be driven regularly with more than enough internally to back up the looks. A stock one in a few years will still be enjoyable and they aren't building any more...
Gorgeous car! Reminds me of my 2001 Mustang Bullitt. I'd buy an '04 Mach in a heartbeat if I could find an unmolested, low mileage one. Thanks for the review!
My Mach 2003 zinc yellow does 12.82 on slicks with only 4:10s jlt cold air kit / flow master outlaw exhaust and x pipe (cats deleted ) . I drive it sideways on the street more than straight , ya drive em with the big pedal 👊
The car handles perfectly fine, the driver not being used to a rwd vehicle with power is the problem. “OMG it’s going to crash into a crowd because I saw it in a video!” Millennials that grew up on Civics and their mom’s Outback is the problem.
Nice vid man. I bought a red 2004 Mach1 brand new in November of 2003. Paid just like you said 29k for it. I've had all kinds of car and that is the one that I regret selling the most. I really wish I'd have kept it.
+Christian macTavish I would guess it probably has a cold air intake pulley long tubes offroad mid and catback maybe 96-98 cobra intake cams and real solid tune. I've seen plenty of them with similar mods putting down 330-340 wheel you can also do a ported short runner and get 10 or so more and it shifts the power up slightly which really works nicely with low gears 410 and lower...these cars have to have 410 or lower I'd do 430-456 if you're planning to stay na. like he said you really need to be in the mid to upper rpm range to really feel irs power band...throw 430-456 gears in one and drive it and come back and talk to me...they're very mean cars for the power they put down. it's very common for these cars to break 11s na with steep gears and sticky tires and stiff suspension.
I own a 2003 Mach 1 and I thought it was a dead on review. The only thing I disagree with is the Mach 1 moving around when accelerating. I don't have that issue. Even with 410 gears the Mach is slow early in the power band. Great job! Keep up the reviews.
The lowest production numbers for the Mach 1 in the Orange, it's the automatic version of this same car...124 made. Lowest production in this color versus all the others ones, even the white.
The Mach 1s 4.6 4V is definitely squishy below 3000 RPM but it goes nuts over 4000. Thanks for reviewing one. Subscribed. Mine has a few suspension mods and 275 front and 315 rear tires and it's an awesome handler on curvy back roads. I wonder if the one you drove had a worn rear suspension? How many miles were on it? Ford from what I remember tuned the Mach's stock suspension to be a little more floaty like the original 60s Mach 1 to help them transfer weight to the rear a little better.
+331Grabber thanks for the support! Yea over 4,000 it's nuts and even for as old as it is I had to work to keep up in my ST in a straight line. This one had 93 thousand miles
Good review, sir. I noticed your test car had the same few inches of carpet pulled away from the driver side foot well as mine does. It appears to be a quality control issue as I've seen it on other Mach 1s. The factory shaker is unbeatable from behind the wheel, let alone in your review mirror when you're in front of one.
@@bluoval3481 o my car is a 4 auto, before I bought my car I was collecting vintage 2 stroke enduro motorcycles I have a 1971 Yamaha dt125 and a 1977 Yamaha dt 175, both are blue from factory but the 71 was repainted red but the 77 is still blue with all the decals, a bunch of blue machines 😜
If your gonna buy a new edge mustang, the cobra and mach 1 are the ones to get. 4 valves are way better than 2. Cool to sew Ben in a muscle car. I'm saving up for a muscle car from this time era. Leaning towards an ls1 t/a or camaro. I'm also considering a cobra or mach 1. Wont be getting a terminator because of how much they want for them
The 4V motor in the 03/04 Machs definitely come alive above 4 grand. It feels like a completely different engine when you rev it up. I think when you say "it's all over the place" is just the solid rear axel? If you hammer it, it'll get a little loose. Learning to automatically correct that is an important driving skill. It's not supposed to be all over the road if you're not breaking the tires loose? Maybe tire or suspension problems on that particular vehicle? Good vid though, I'll check your other stuff out. Thanks!
When I say it’s all over the place I was more talking about the suspension being a little out of tune, the seat does not keep you in place and the front end would lift when you accelerate. It was just very different from what I drive that’s all. Not a bad thing. Let me know what you think of my other vids!
I am not sure, but it looks to me as you are riding the clutch pedal, resting your foot on the pedal,....by watching your leg / knee movement....keep working on your reviewer skills, but remember people will pick you apart for the slightest of mistakes or just being unsure....and they will rip you completely apart if you are riding that clutch pedal, good luck to you
It's always entertaining to listen to younger people review cars a "little" older. I'm 45 years old and I've owned 12 different years of Mustangs and I've never hit a crowd of people. I still own a 1986 mustang Svo and a 1990 mustang 5.0. I own and daily drive a 2012 Ford Fusion. I also own a 2017 Subaru Sti. Basically what I'm trying to say is just enjoy cars and don't get so caught up in the opinions of online critics.
I had an 86 SVO. Currently Own an 03 Mach 1. The SVO is gone. But it's turbo 2.3 and 5-Speed found it's way into my Pinto :) The SVO wasn't molested. It was returned to stock and moved to Florida. Still miss confusing 5.0 drivers with the SVO :)
Best thing if staying na and bolt on is 456 gears no it's not too low you wanna stay in the powerband and have that umph around town you said wasn't there that's it if going forced induction then 410-430 depending on boost levels. If you're running crazy power and trapping over 125 in the quarter you might wanna go 373. Otherwise they need a MINIMUM of 410 I'm personally going 456 on my next one with bolt on and 96-98 cobra cams degreed with bigs and littles and over 400 lbs in weight reduction and suspension mods and sticky rear tires etc. I'd like to go deep in the 12s or high 11s with bolt ons. It's very relavant. One of these with 400 lbs removed (not that hard at all and still very streetable) only weighs 3000 lbs compared to 3600-3800 lbs for the newer coyote cars. I've seen a bolt on cobra cam Mach do 350 whp on an e85 tune and at 3000 lbs that's more than enough to take down stock coyotes and even bolt on coyotes unless they've been on a serious diet themselves. I love the Mach one people that know what they are respect and people who don't know mustangs usually think it's just another na 2v gt lol.
+Alex Melia I know this is an old comment but gears don't hurt highway mpg that much. my mach 1 would get like 26-27 mpg on the highway with stock 3.55 gears and full bolt on...my old 97 cobra had a similar 4v engine and 4.10 gears I was able to average just under 25 mpg on a nearly 200 mile trip cruise on ac blasting. I'm betting I could average minimum of 23 mpg highway with 456 gears possibly even higher. the mach 1 has a slightly taller 5th gear ratio than the 96-98 cobra did so rpm ride around a couple hundred less on the highway vs the early cobras so even with 456 gears the mach would probably tach at or below 3k at 70-75 mph on the highway. if I get another mach which is a strong possibility it won't be my daily I will get a clean low mile car and it'll be my nice day and weekend cruiser and my straight line car (I have a 16 fiesta st for the twisties and to serve as a daily). it's not a big deal if my highway mpg is lower in the stang because I get well beyond 30 on the highway with my st even on e30.
im picking up my competition orange mach 1 tomorrow.. 2004 with only 6500 miles! best part..as if the mileage werent awesome enough. its procharged:) decent review btw
RGBGFIVE i do! also have a modded turbo rx8 i built :) the nismo is stock for now but will get boost in the near future. i bought it about 5 months ago. its a great car. get more compliments when i drive it than any other car ive had.thanks!
To try to help you understand, here's the thing about us older Mustang guys. We just DO NOT care about handling. I mean, I've got control arms and good springs to keep it planted and solid in a straight line, but beyond that we do not care. We just like a powerful engine and being able to use it. I also have much wider wheels on mine with sticky tires to keep the supercharged 600 HP from killing me.
it has a Independent, modified MacPherson strut with separate spring on lower arm and 26.5-mm stabilizer bar. Rear: Four-bar link with coil springs on lower arm, unique horizontal axle damper and 23-mm solid stabilizer bar hate to say it buddy but you just can't drive if you can't handle this car , mine is like a train on tracks when going around a corner, of course is not going to shift and pull like a front-wheel drive
Umm nope Oxford white is the rarest color. In 2003-04 Zinc , Screaming Yellow 1637 were produce and Oxford white was 1511 for the same time period. I just picked up an 03 black Mach 1 and i looked for any other color but these cars are hard to find now.
@@kennordsfan1494, oxford white is the fourth rarest. First is screaming yellow. Second is zinc yellow. Third is competition orange. Oxford white was the rarest in each year but because the other colors were only produced for one year they are rarer than oxford white.
When you talk about handling and driving on back roads, you should know the 03/04 Mach 1's were designed more for straight line acceleration, not corner carving. Hence the different cams for better torque.
Oh my God what a panzy I can't keep it straight the steering is too loose geez ... The mach 1 is a well round stang I had one had no problem keeping it straight steered awesome learn how to drive then what panzy complainer ... "I'm so scared " lmao wow stick to 4 cylinders bro cause obviously you can't handle a V8
You need to educate yourself a little more about the car and its value. Also its meant to go fast in a straight line not back curvy roads, its a muscle car not a sports car.
Really??? If you’re complaining how the Mach 1 handles then maybe you should start taking the bus because I can name a very long and distinguished list of cars that you’re probably more into that handles way worse than a Mach 1!
I'm going to also going to jump on you for a poor, woefully uninformed review. I own the same car, 2004 Mustang Mach 1, 40th anniversary Edition in Competition Orange, 5 speed manual transmission. I've owned brand new Cobras, '67 Camaro SS convertible, SS Impala, ZO6 Corvette, on and on. The Mach 1 with the Terminator engine is an absolute blast to drive, with most certainly under reported horse power and torque values. These are part of Fords "Heritage Series" cars produced to include the Mustang Bullitt and the Mercury Marauder. The Mach 1's, especially the 2004's are considered collector cars and are getting extremely hard to find in clean, unabused condition. The Competition Orange was only offered in one year, 2004 and is now being sought out by collectors. I have never had one issue of control in my Mach1, along with a B&M Ripper shifter and a brass shifter bushing, rowing gears is easy and effortless. A performance tune, a CAI and a cat back exhaust system frees up a LOT of lost power and the acceleration rate is phenomenal. Most certainly there are much faster cars on the road but by sheer rarity, none much more rare then one of these for sure. Mine has the following: K&N CAI, ceramic headers, Bassani X pipe, sub-frame connectors, Stage 2 clutch with Ford racing bushings, B&M ripper shifter, JDM racing custom pro-tune, Eibach street/strip 4 wheel complete suspension kit, Koni ST/R orange struts/shocks, Bilstein rear axle wrap shocks, Accel high performance spark coils, E3 spark plugs, SLP shotgun resonators going into a 3 inch Magnaflow stainless exhaust system. I have had my ass handed to me by a friends tuned Hemi Scat Pack Challenger, but I have also beaten many cars as well. These are just a ton of fun to own, tune and drive so if your thinking of getting one do it quickly as the value of these are definitely going up. Happy miles!
