You are correct in that the HIT will auto-deploy, but when you add “hit your head” or otherwise can’t pull the cord you bring up another point of discussion. That is the difference between a Type II and a Type III PFD. A type II will roll most people to a face up position where this vest being a Type III will not. Yes it will auto-deploy but if you are unconscious and face down there is no chance that this vest will roll you face up and keep you from drowning.
Hi Tony, you are correct and I thank you for pointing that out to me. I was initially told these would do so but after your comment I did some research and found this information: Type II PFDs are intended for calm inland waters, where fast rescue is likely. They have a very basic design that is less bulky than Type I, and typically less expensive, but they are not as comfortable as Type III. They will turn some unconscious wearers to the face-up position. Type II PFDs come in inherently buoyant, inflatable or hybrid designs. Type III PFDs are suitable for most paddlers where there is a chance for quick rescue. They offer freedom of movement and comfort for continuous wear. These PFDs are designed so wearers can put themselves in a face-up position, but they may have to tilt their head back to avoid being face down in water. Type III PFDs come in inherently buoyant, inflatable or hybrid designs. The information got confused and I thought it corrected the body positioning in the water! @@GoesTo11 Now you have me really confused, because from what I have seen (on other videos) this PFD actually functions as a Type III when deployed. Could you check with the actual Mustang Rep who sent you that one?
LOL!...tell ya what, I will do it in an Instagram posting to satisfy that craving for you. I should look to replace the cartridge anyhow but when it was brand new, I just didn't have the heart to burn a $100 bill on it lol. 😉
