The best part is how Mustang didn't even believe Envy when he said he killed Hughes because Envy is such a clown but the moment he changed into Hughes' wife, Mustang understood exactly how Hughes died.

How I like to explain Envy's death: If Envy had been killed in anger, it would have "proven" that Envy was right about humans. He even tried to drive everyone in hate fueled brawl as last ditch effort, because that's what he thinks humans are only capable of. Showing him pity/understatement/empathy was what prove Envy wrong, and humiliated him into suicide. (which is pretty messed up thing to do, in a sense)

The trope of "if you kill him you will be just like him" at this point is so burned and is so unjustified, that it generates me rejection just by seeing it, no matter how it is done. I understand the point, but I don't share it.

@@JoseAMatos-us6wo Big disagree. Thats the line between justice and revenge. Moreover, the last thing Hughes would want is Mustang consumed by anger. Letting him brutally kill Envy would have been a terrible writing choice

When he killed Lust, Roy was doing what needed to be done and was coldly efficient. Here, he's deliberately torturing Envy to death and loving every second of it. He let's him regenerate over and over (putting himself at risk in the process) just so that he can feel as much pain as possible. That's a pretty scary place for him to be, even if envy does deserve it. Better for Hawkeye to just put envy down like a dog then to let Roy continue. It's nice to see reactors actually see that! Y'all are sick.

The reason the dub in this is fire is because they had an older version of this anime with the same Voice Actors and they got acquainted the first time with the material and settled in their character before doing the new one.

I've always thought that it's not that Ed was mad at Mustang after he killed the Immortal Soldiers. It's that Ed finally had some inkling of what Mustang did in Ishval, because I think this is Ed's first time really seeing Roy use his alchemy against living targets.

These two episodes together? Masterpiece! Yeah, it's not that they don't want to kill Envy (Riza even said she'll take care of it), they just don't want Mustang to kill Envy while like this. And I get it. I don't think any loved ones, or even Hughes, would want Mustang acting like this. If you also think about it, how Mustang killed Lust is vastly different to how he's treating Envy here, which is why Ed and Riza are trying to stop him. That and Riza specifically was given orders by Mustang himself to basically stop him if he ever fell off his path. So overall, both Ed and Riza are stopping Mustang because they care for him. As for Envy, I honestly felt sad and pity...His whole existence was just miserable because of his innate envy of humans.

It was also interesting seeing Scar’s take on the matter. He knows he has no right to stop Mustang from taking vengeance since he too was a man driven by revenge. However, despite once being his enemy, because he’s experienced it, he doesn’t want to see Mustang go down the same path.

This set of episodes was soo good. mustang is my fav character in the series so seeing him struggle was so emotional, but at the same time super satisfying to see him completely wipe the floor with envy. Also, the way envy went out was perfect too, just a great ending to his character. Side note: Yu Yu hakusho's dub is 1000% superior

Two of my favorite episodes. I love the fantastic examples of manliness this show puts forward between Armstrong, Mustang, Maes Hughes, Sig Curtis, etc. It’s perfect for a coming-of-age story about two brothers.

Fun fact: When Mustang said that he could ignite Envy's bone marrow, he MEANT that. Because of his experience in the war, and knowledge of the human body he knows how to change the composition of things to make them explosive/combustable. He didn't need to fully see Envy to kill them... he wanted to look in their eyes when he did it.

Full Metal Panic is the other show I would say sub is better than dub. When they do English dub, the people are alone when recording (unlike Japanese dub) and the chemistry between Lucy Christiansen and Chris Patton is insane. Plus Luci Christiansen is one of the best eng dub actors
