What are you currently struggling with?

Oh bless you for trying to help me. Don't try it will take too long! I dunno I seem to fire it up and spend hours but get no where. Mainly just to get some nice VCOs and quantiser so simple stuff ( through a delay ). I do download patches to take a look at what people have done.......I am not sure why I struggle so much with VCV as I know my way around synths more or less but trying to get something nice from SEQ3 to go into the Quantiser then out to a VCO and into a delay ...it just doesn't sound harmonius. I think you just have to keep plugging away at it. People are doing some amazing stuff with it. I just get very frustrated and after a while you get fatigued watching youtube videos all day.

I also struggled with ADSR. I mean on a subtractive synth you turn the knob and it happens. With VCV I seem to not quite grasp it. I think it's just because you have to really learn about it at the lowest level. You take a lot for granted when you switch on your easy to use polysynth.

PS I like that module you demonstrated - and the wavefolding. Wavefolding sounds so cool doesn't it. Sometimes I fiddle around with 'Complex 1' in Reason which is quite Buchla.......but I still struggle with that at times! You have to put the work in at the end of the day to get there - either in Complex 1 or VCV. Anyway your tutorial was cool thanks a lot.

Yeah, you're right, it takes a lot of patching to create even a basic subtractive synth. That's why I like modules such as plaits which is basically a complete synth in one module. Sometimes the beauty of modular synthesis is just blindly twisting knobs until you come across a weird sound. It might be easier to just go wherever the modular takes you, instead of trying to recreate an idea you have in your head. But keep it simple from the start. Try out plaits and clouds, nothing more, and record everything. Then choose the best parts later on in your DAW. This way it becomes more of a creative sound generator. Hope that helps!
