A Raspberry pi UMPC. An open platform device to use and create. It's a fully Open-Source Hardware. So you can Hack and Modify it as you wish. You can make your own Add-ons or use already available Add-ons like GPS, Radio etc and attach them with the device to get more feature. It can hold a 4" or 3.5" touch screen, 56 key physical keyboard, Buzzer, Vibration, IR transmitter, Gyro and more. It doesn't need any custom OS, uses vanilla Raspbian OS and install the LCD driver, that's it.
So little parts needed to make one. Also the cost is low. The priciest thing is the LCD and Pi.
Here is a 3D view.

Please do not hesitate to put your comment, to like and to share this video! This will help to promote the video in the RU-vid algorithm. More views, more subs, more likes = more makers of mutantC, more improvements and most important gives me motivation. Thanks a lot!

so, this is well above my pay grade, but I'm understanding that you designed the case, and got all the components installed and playing nicely with one another. How much of the internal components and pcb's are your design? is it that the actual hardware pieces, us ports, screen panel, keyboard, etc are prebuilt, but you came up with the wiring and control functionality? Again, I know nothing about this field, so my questions will undoubtedly seem ridiculous to the people that have knowledge and experience with this. I ran across this video randomly, but I'm glad I did. this is something to be very proud of sir! you're doing something really spectacular here, like Steve Jobs and Wozniak in a garage level spectacular! I wish for that kind of success with this sir. Most impressive and inspiring as well. well well done sir!

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes I did came up with the design and PCB and other stuff around it. I got some help from people to write the firmware for it. You can also find all the files in the gitlab project repository. I wish RU-vid algorithm helped me a bit to reach new viewers like you so they can know about the project.

First off, let me say this is a cool project! That said, I have some recommendations for possible future versions: 1. Sliding LCD Cover screws: this would look much cleaner if it were in the back so it's not visible; 2. Mouse Buttons: these would be better up on the left & right corners where the user's index fingers would normally be resting; 3. NuroLink USB-C: ~I wish you used a different connector for this, specially since it's sitting right beside the other USB-C connector (which I'm guessing is for the power) & I can imagine potential Pi-frying mishaps if the user's not careful (or forgetful). ^ I imagine this was done due to space constraints so perhaps it could be located somewhere else... ideally near the top of the mutantC v4 where the wire to the project circuit would be out of the way. More power to your project & thanks for letting me know about PCBWay's 3D printing services! PS: will be reposting this on Discord as well as any other possible improvements I can think of. ;)

1. nice suggestion. 2. I also want it like that way, but there is no space on left side to fit a PCB. So those 2 buttons in the left side of the keyboard are the mouse button for now. 3. yes, because of space constrains I had do that. But it has protection inside. You can’t damage anything when you plug power to it. Sure do, I am in discord most of the time.

I think it would be great to add a few indicators on top, similar to the ones that laptops have, so that they are above the monitor so that you can see everything even if the keyboard is open or closed.

Great work! If you make this a meshtastic compatible messenger (ESP32 based LORA add-on) it will be very popular!

Thanks, I did a lora based add-on, check out the source files from the gitlab. And yes, I didn’t paid attention on software work to show off the hardware much.

Awesome stuff! keep up the good work! : ) (you need a better looking 3d printed cover though, that thing looks ugly)

Yeah, unfortunately I don’t own any printer, so hard to experiment and get better results.

@@mutantCybernetics it's easy enough to get multiple grits of sandpaper to smooth out the 3D print & make them look better. Painting the screw heads black (or gray) will also improve the look of the front.
@mutantCybernetics
@mutantCybernetics 3 года назад
Yes, I used a fine grit paper to finish the look. But it’s mostly the printer, where I got my parts their printer is not great. In discord people are sharing better part quality than my one, way better.

This is a pretty cool little invention. We featured this project in this week's episode of The Electromaker Show. You can listen to what we had to say about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_I-J3QiPXsA.html
