I happened to be there during the making of the video. It was quite literally filmed in reverse, all one shot, one take with no edits,. The band spent quite a bit of time on tour learning to play their instrument parts and lyrics backwards. Once filmed in reverse, the video was flipped and synced to the original album audio.
I have known Darren since we were kids...known him almost since birth! We grew up in the same church together....he is an awesome drummer for sure!! And a great friend!!!
It's 2019 and the old mutemath is still my favorite even though half of the band members aren't playing anymore. I'm glad because Mutemath was introduced to me by the love of my life and our relationship started with the song 'You are mine' and this song, Typical, is so full of nostalgia. I'm somewhat out of breath writing this because it's the feeling of utopia that I got when the relationship was new, 5 years back. Even though things have changed but the feelings and emotions that I felt is eternal and shall be restored within me till I live. I love you Mutemath!
I haven’t heard this song in 15 YEARS! So much in my life has happen sense then, I'm so happy I found this! Really happy, the music video is also amazing
I remember hearing this in middle school, it feels so great to know that people still appreciate this. This might get weird, but I'm going through some hard times, and hearing this gives me hope for the future!
"Typical" has to be one of my all-time favorite rock songs. It's like a send-up of typical pop rock anthems, while sporting its own distinct style and a genuinely creative hook (for a 4-chord song, that is). It's wonderful how the hook essentially loops in on itself and creates tension, and even better how the lyrical pauses in the chorus highlight the tension. All that, plus the god-tier bassline, absurdly tight drumming, and sterling production makes "Typical" a modern masterpiece in my opinion.
This is one of my favorite songs ever, reminds me of the times when i was happy for the last time, playing atv offroad fury on ps2 in my room as a teenager
I have always done a physical walk around at all outdoor shows. It has to pass my ears test. I lost count of how many people have asked the crew, staff and vendors where I was when they heard Typical playing. Great tune to have friends know I am in the house.
this song... I was in the middle of getting my Master's in summer 2007. Just met my now wonderful husband - and what an amazing love story, we fell in love with mutemath as we fell in love together :) :). Just amazing memories.
Tabitha Sikora I grew up with him too... we graduated in the same class. Marshfield class of 2000. Darren was always good people. I’ve known him since 2nd grade. So glad to see him doing well at what he loves.
If you still know him by chance ... could you possibly let him know he broke all our hearts a few years ago. What hurts most is not that he left but that he didn’t tell us (his loyal fans) why. 😢
Saw them open for TØP and they were absolutely fantastic! Not only did the sound good live but their lighting and performance in general was captivating and honestly just freaking amazing
+HektahGames: Well obviously it does - but I'm pretty sure the Mutemath guys had a lot of ideas for this themselves. We don't know at least. This is a pretty simple song, I agree, but that doesn't mean it must be bad. Listen to some prog rock and be happy then. ;)
HektahGames there's a making of video. This was the brainchild of the band and the director. They got the ball rolling on this video.. and idk what the hell u listen to but mutemath are a very complex band with multi talented musicians. U best remember that b4 judging them off of one song which has become a staple for their fan base.
Holy crap, this song is way ahead of its time lol. As someone who had no idea about this song until a suggestion from Spotify (this is exactly the kind of stuff I love and I had no idea it existed), I thought it was a song released this year when I first heard it. Go figure that everyone else has known about it for so many years :P
I suggest everyone watch the making of this video to appreciate how difficult it actually was to make and shoot, especially for Darren who learned the entire drums backwards, crazy stuff
I heard of them before twenty one pilots, but twenty one pilots rekindled my interest in them. Only b/c they kinda just faded out for me and I forgot about them entirely. Anyhow, both both groups are great and this song is awesome.
These gents learned to play their instruments backwards for 4 min to get as many views as a tiktok dancer. Saw you all live and will be forever sending you boys views!!! Respect 2022
Come on, can I dream for one day? There's nothing that can't be done But how long should it take somebody Before they can be someone 'Cause I know there's got to be another level Somewhere closer to the other side And I'm feelin' like it's now or never Can I break the spell of the typical? Now I've lived through my share of misfortune And I've worked in the blazing sun But how long should it take somebody Before they can be someone 'Cause I know there's got to be another level Somewhere closer to the other side And I'm feelin' like it's now or never Can I break the spell of the typical? Typical, typical, typical I'm the typical I'm the typical Can I break the spell of the typical? Because it's draggin' me down Oh, I'd like to know about when When does it all turn around? Yeah I know there's got to be another level Somewhere closer to the other side And I'm feelin' like it's now or never Can I break the spell of the typical? Typical, typical, typical Break the spell (of the typical) Break the spell (of the typical) I'm the typical!
There are 4 members in Mutemath, the 4th letter of Mutemath is E. This video was shot backwards. E backwards is 3. 3 sides in a triangle. iluminati confirmed
5 years I've been listening to this song... and I still find something else I love about it everyday!!! MUTEMATH, Do a tour in Australia!!!! Love you guys!!!!
