The first European explorers arrived in the Karakoram Mountains back in the 1830s
The Muztagh Pass is mountain Pass across the Baltoro Muztagh range in the Karakorams.
The route across the Muztagh Pass is the shortest route from Yarkand to Skardu.
By the 18th century, the East (old) Muztagh Pass had been blocked because of advancing ice. So, the west Muztagh had been used
it lies to the north of the long Baltoro glacier, and very near Mount Godwin Austen / K2 / Chogori (28,250 feet).
5. It was crossed by a European, Colonel Younghusband, who in 1887 came from Peking across the Gobi Desert to Yarkand
It was a moment of great achievement for us, as after Eric Shipton’s exploration of Muztagh and Sarpo Laggo Passes in 1937, we were the first, and till now the only Pakistani team to summit the pass.
It was a fascinating moment for us once again, as we had achieved another goal and set a record of being a first Pakistani team to achieve some historic and key passes of Karakoram range; both the Muztagh and Sarpo Laggo Passes.
