MVS - 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL450 4Matic (w/Full Test Drive) 

It’s amazing how much they changed this vehicle in the next two years. Like I said previously I have a 2015 and it is very very different.

The new GL450 is superior to even last year's GL550, not only with a more powerful and faster engine, but because of these new amazing features.. If there is any "must have" option with this car, the Surround View System has got to be it. Being such a particularly large car, the ability to see 360 degrees around the car is invaluable, particularly when parking.

Mine is gray. I absolutely love this car. We’ve had so many problems since we bought it. Yes it was used but we’ve had one thing after another I mean it’s just one thing after another. The battery was going bad. The key fob wouldn’t work. I was low on fluids and should not have been. You would think the people that had it would have checked everything and by people I mean not only the person that had it before me but the Mercedes-Benz dealership where they checked an issue we had with the airbags. Long story don’t even want to get into that and then the place we took it to get the airbags fixed. It’s like nobody even checks anything anymore. minimum. We don’t want to hear them say oh you need this and you need that but now I’m starting to second-guess that. Yes if you’re checking out my airbags, please tell me I’m low on fluid or coolant.

This is a brilliant car, easily the best SUV on the market today. The only problem with the model you're driving is that it lacks the Surround View System that comes as part of the Parking Assist Package option on GL models. This is easily one of the best and most useful features of the car.

It's useful not only to prevent accidents and scrapes, but also for viewing how much space you have to the cars parked next to yours, particularly if you want to avoid some clown smashing their door into your brand-new $90,000+ vehicle (and easily over $100K when including taxes, extended warranties and protection plans). Gimmicky options like Keyless Go you can live without, but the Surround View System is a MUST HAVE.

As I understand it is only available from Mercedes on the GL models and one of the many reasons why the newly re-designed 2013 GL series, particularly the GL450, is not only heads above any other SUV on the market, but the previous GL series as well.

Can the headlights be replaced with HIDS???

I liked the review. Maybe a little 'automated' in the speaking parts but a good interesting and in depth review non the less. I would have liked just a little bit more of a walk around on the outside. One point though, when you were on the test drive with Martin Shaffer, a microphone in the front with the pair of you would be easier to hear.

this car is a tank

I changed my pilot 2014 17l/100km for a gl350 2014 diesel 12l/100km . gl are aerodynamic . sit low unless needed .and of course diesel . I dont regret it . pilot has a few + but gl has many + .

so distronic isn't more useful even though it can prevent a crash

And by the way, I hate those runningboards. Super super slippery in the winter or in the rain. You put your foot on there to get in and you’re going to slip and fall on your butt. I can’t wait to get those changed out.
