Dude is like playing with it and flipping it over a ton like it’s really that serious. It’s fkn canned sardines not escargot or filet metnon. Then talking and eat at the same time heavy breathing. It’s all fucking weird. I’ve been eating sardines all my life, I never ate them like some pompous ahole.

@@Naltddesha he’s on the other end of the spectrum. Eating and breathing heavily, flipping the fish over and over again using chopsticks like that’s what your mother teaches you from birth. I don’t mind people not having manners because first of all I’m not here to watch people eat (it’s like watching reality tv, watching someone do something instead of living and doing it yourself), all I wanted to kno is if they has bones. Second, at least those people are being themselves and not putting on some weird persona. He a character in to his own self. He’s giving of major “being fake” vibes.

Absolutely. I buy these all the time...at my local Walmart. the canned meat section is not that great at my walmart however they always have these. they use to have some high end tuna and even escargot but not so much anymore. I wish they would have more liver pate sometimes. Here in Wisconsin we have braunschweiger and its ok but I'd like to see some goose or chicken liver pate.

I love these. I get them every time I'm at walmart. I eat them on a paper plate with some kewpie mayo and walmart brand woven wheat crackers. I also include some Brie and pickled herring. It's a wonderful snack plate. I may also add some random charcuterie nonsense like olive salad. It's a wonderful time.

These are my current favorite. I use to like this Arabic brand sardines that comes in a gold can with a huge Chilli inside but can't seem to find them anywhere now. Trader joes has ones in purple can that are my go to but these are better imo. I originally purchased the glass can from Costco and have been hooked ever since. I have to have it with freshly made rice, red onions and seasoning. Theyre also good in a sanwiche. Found a deal on Amazon they were selling 12pks for like $20

Have you tried Polars in the large oval can? If so, how do they compare?

Never had it. I've tried gose. Not a big fan. Fun to taste, but nice to have 8oz or so now and then. Any gueuze suggestions?

@@CannedFishFiles Cantillon is a great place to start, other favorites include Tilquin, De Cam, De Troch, and Girardin. I'm sure you can find a few in NYC

re: oils.... since making the video I learned a little bit about olive oil, and it seems Polar has done something clever with their label's language. It's not extra virgin olive oil, but the make the point of calling their oil "refined olive oil", which is unusual for canned fish. I suspect they intend the consumer to assume "refined" is on par with extra virgin or is somehow fancier than plain olive oil (which is what it is).

Brunswick canned sardines used to be good. *Used to be*, being the key phrase. It's a bygone era for the company, once they "reformulated" their sardine product a few years ago into their now so-called PR-spinned "new gourmet style" by removing all of the skin and softened bones during their processing. Thereby utterly RUINING what was once one of the very best canned sardines on the market. Because the skin and softened-up bones of canned sardines is the most nutritionally dense and healthly useful part of the fish. They essentially DUMBED DOWN their product. It's like removing all of the skin from fresh apples before selling them. Again, the most nutritionally dense part of the food being senselessly discarded. Hence, Brunwick alienated sardine aficionados like myself, and lost our patronage to the other choices in line, such as Polar or Wild Planet, for instance. These other options in place of the now-defiled Brunswick abomimation have become our new go-to market gold standards for canned sardines that are treated with the respect they deserve by RETAINING their whole-food value and resource preciousness. (Stripping away skin and softened bomes during the canning of sardines is an awful waste of food resources. It's a spit in the face of nature's bounty. Shame on you, Brunswick!) Therefore, for some people to compare Brunswick's now COMPROMISED version of its former glory to what Polar offers is hilarious. It has to be a joke. No comparison. Polar (as well as Wild Planet) are thankfully carrying the torch that Brunswick fumbled and dropped, and face-planted themselves into the proverbial concrete. Thank you, Polar, for retaining respect for canned fish. Please don't go down the same path of Brunswick by dumbing it down like they did.

Are you thinking of the King Oscars with jalapeno? That's a more direct comparison. Possibly mushy, as some of the KO flavors can be. Nuri is never what I'd call mushy. Grainy, maybe!

@@CannedFishFiles Not had any King Oscar's yet, though I have them in the pantry. I'm headed to the Asian market to pick up a few things. They carry Nuri. I'll see if they have that particular variety and report back. I ordered them thru Amazon before finding them on a local shelf.

@@CannedFishFiles Enjoyed Nuri in red label for breakfast, sardines in tomato sauce. Excellent! The first one I lifted from the can broke apart but it was not mushy nor grainy. All of them were perfect texture. I'll head to the Asian grocer when I get a chance to see if they have the jalapeno version and give them another try to see if they are the same.

@@hoobeydoobey1267 Nuri is a pretty class act. Hard to do much better with pilchards. Did you find them a little salty? I do, but I can look past it because of the otherwise high quality.

Reminds me of when I was in high school & my friend brought a 2L bottle of orange crush into a movie theatre. When the usher heard the bottle opening sound, he came & confiscated it, whilst completely ignoring the man holding 2 trays of McD's soft ice-cream cones settling into the seat in front of us.

NHOP was the baddest. Been a while since I listened to him. I guess the Oscar Peterson stuff is what I remember the most. Jaco was definitely a major guy for me.

Sprat is short for sprattus, which is the species name of the fish. "Brisling" is a sprat prepared in the Norwegian style (or I guess Baltic too), think King Oscar. But I guess it can mean anything you want to if you've gotta sell 16-24 little sardines in a can. Expect exceptions and corrections below!
