I have a Festool and a corded Makita. The Festool is significantly faster and more powerful of the two. I use airstream 5.2ah batteries. To be clear, I’m a DIYer/homeowner. I work all over my property and occasionally my family’s and friends’ homes. The battery operation is REALLY important. For miscellaneous cutting I’m apt to turn to my battery powered destruction saw with a carbide tooth blade. But, when you got to grind, you got to grind …

Thanks for your comment. That’s helpful. I’m also a DIYer. Of course, battery is important, but I’m normally only using it for a few minutes at a time. I usually just grab my angle grinder to cut something quick… I have a cornered Ryobi and a Dewalt. Both are great, but I want something cordless and LOVE Festool. I already have some Festool batteries. So, I think I’m going with the Festool. If I need something corseted, I will have the Dewalt (it’s a beast).

I couldn't find the shaping pad on your Amazon store. It's not there as far as I can tell. I assume it's a kutzall, but I wasn't sure which ones fit the Festool grinder as everything I see when I search is imperial.

Thank you so much for this non bias review head to head. I have a lot of Milwaukee tools but have been slowly switching over to Festool but I always want to know if the extra $$ is worth it.

My mate has the Festool and it is amazing. But quite honestly , in the situation you have where you are polishing and grinding in the workshop, I think you’re better off with a high quality mains grinder, (metabo) they’re lighter for a start.

@@ManorWood I hate milwaukee - beacause of the price politics. Here in Germany are twice compared to US marked. Other Brands got the same Level Europe and USA. If you contact mw Service: "Our products Are here more expensive, because of the market. Not because of our Products Are so much better....

Not such an issue in the workshop but as Andy suggested, if you work at height (especially with the tool on a tether), or in any other situation where you might drop the grinder, the paddle-switch designs win out on safety every time!

You can never go wrong with a Milwaukee but festool tools just feel great in hand. If you have unlimited budget go with festool

Dont see the point in using battery grinders in a workshop on bench type work, then complaining the battery keeps giving out. Just buy the corded version and suspend from the ceiling, constant power, more power, no dramas, no battery costs, use battery stuff elsewhere. Problem solved. Horses for courses.

exactly. I made the mistake of buying the dewalt 60v flex grider, it gets 10 minutes of use at a time then an hour to charge.

I'm also more of an outdoor guy. I have enough batteries to keep my tools running. Also I like the narrower grips of the cordless grinders

I ordered a kutall disc a while back and then got my Festool grinder today. So finally got round to trying it out, can I ask did you experience any swaying like motion when switched on? It kind of felt like I was almost wrestling with it in the air. Perhaps the diamond Kutall all disc isn't balanced, any thoughts on your experience with carving discs? Any experience using arbortech?

I have fein 125mm 1300watt With normal Cord and works likes a charm, i guess that Fein for 90% makes tools for metal industry and angle grinders is a tool most just in metal industry, they know that they doing.. they also have battery powered angle grinders. Maybe a good test comparison, thanks for sharing

I have a Fein 125mm 700w compact and a 125 1100w with the ergo grip, both excellent 230V grinders. Well worth a look. Cordless wise, I have 22V Hilti 125mm, it does not get tons of use, but its 2 years old and has held up well; runs on 5.2Ah batteries that don't run hot, and came with a quick charger-part of a kit though..

I know it’s no comparison, but I have same issue with a Ryobi battery grinder, it also eats batteries, even the newer 5.0ah battery. I tend to Switch to cabled where ever possible, but some jobs you just can’t.

Festool is very good,but it does go through batteries in no time.I think it is Fein inside which is meant to work with newer li ion cells.When they get 21700 8ah/10ah batteries out, there will be a big difference

I love Festool but it’s out of order to not supply the airstream charger with the airstream batteries. I had to pay an extra £80 to buy one like yourself. AND I have 3 of the shitty scl3 chargers that take a year to charge a 5.2 ah battery.

TCL 6 charger is not that much off the SCA 8 airsteam at half the price . I have both but haven't bothered using the SCA 8 after reading the comparison chart . Just incase someone feels they are compelled to buy the SCA 8 they need not.
@SingleTrack66
@SingleTrack66 3 года назад
Bizarre that you “haven’t bothered using the SCA 8” it’s way faster due to the increased amperage and the fan. It also lets you know how long it has left. It’s way better and worth the money.

Dear Sir, A very good comparison between two very capable machines. I bought a fixed speed cordless Metabo simply because that's all that was currently available at the time. I have since bought the Fein cordless variable speed with dead man switch which just like your good self is not a great deal of fun doing a day's work with. I prefer a variable speed as it's more capable of performing various tasks other than cutting. Bosch came with a variable speed before Fein but lowest speed was too high to consider for sanding & likewise with Festool of which I have all their cordless system. Fein starts from 2500 RPM whereas Bosch is at 3000 & if I am not mistaken Festool starts at around 4000 which is way too high. The bateries on both Metabo & Fein seldom go beyond warm. Very well done. Kind regards.

Dear Sir and Sir, and any other Sir readers. You, Sir, are quite a Sir and I Sir do appreciate your kind words, Sir. Sir-iously though, Nobody mentioned how nice it is that the festool stands up. I usually fiddle with putting my dewalt down to be sure wheel is up. this is much easier.

@@debandmike3380 Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you very much for your comment.There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Festool cordless angle grinder if used as just that; when one needs to purchase a specific tool for a specific task, one must take into account it's features to see if it's likely to work as intended or create a disappointment. I use my Fein grinder essentially for sanding either with disc & pad (125 &150mm) or use the rollers with special arbor as used for metal work. Rollers cannot tolerate high speeds of 7/8 or 9000rpm, I do believe their maximum recommended working speeds are in the region 2500/3000 RPM max. I never use it for either grinding or cutting metal ( if I were to resort to such activity I would use my existing Metabo fixed speed version). As for resting said machine when not in use most manufacturers add some sort of flat spot on the cast angle head in order to put it to rest. Kind regards.

In tasks so deamanding and long as you show in the video, would a corded grinder not be more convenient?

Not the way I work , cable really slow me down and make you work in a small area of the shop , I work all over the place . Also corded grinders feel bit hard to handle with carving disc the battery one are very smooth

Both great tools , I would be a little worried about the use rating on these battery grinders. For continuous use in the workshop, I can't see them lasting . For the resin grinding an air tool would maybe be more appropriate - for lightness and durability , but if you can't work with corded tools then there are few options. I think back to the days of hi- cycle grinders , when men were men and lugged 10 kilo tools for 8 hours - how things have moved on.
