This is part 2 of my Tanay Rizal mountain run. In this episode, I expound on my first impressions of the Cusco coilovers, in terms of ride quality, handling, and overall feel.
I also discuss a bit about whether you should get coilovers or just opt for lowering springs.

Hi , I just had my Cusco Zero A coilovers installed on my 2016 MX5 ND at a Mazda specialist workshop in Brisbane, Australia and they said they didn’t need to touch the Cusco Zero A out of the box, it’s a perfect lowered height and stiffness for the street straight out of the box …. I’m also running the Cusco sway bars and Advan RZ11 also on Bridgestones RE003 tyres … next I’m coping you as I’m getting the Winmax 3 break pads on upgraded rotors… thanks for your videos mate 🙏🙂

Thanks mate! Its definitely lower than stock, but I had mine adjusted 1.5 inch lower for a more aggressive stance. I never adjusted the height the past 5 years, 1.5 inches lower is perfect even for Manila's roads (no scrapes). It is much stiffer than stock though.

@@ReygansRides Yes it’s stiffer than stock for sure but that’s what we wanted a firmer sportier handling MX5 … the next thing I’m doing to copy Scarlet is the Winmax 3 break pads … are they a good street pad ?as I’ve got no intention of tacking my car just mountain and country roads .

@@LPVP123 wimmax w3 is perfect for mixed use. Gets a bit noisy when cold, but doesn't affect performance. Be prepared for a lot more stopping power than stock. You'll enjoy it.

@@ReygansRides Thank you Reygan , I was thinking about the Winmax 1 but I want to feel some difference if I move away from the Mazda pads … thanks for all the videos you make I enjoy your channel 🙏

Hey man i have to ask and i stress it enough as it is, theres lots of coilovers out there which people think they don’t sacrifice much ride comfort. Honest opinion how does the miata feel just cruising? Does the cusco coilover take up the bumps on compression? I currently have shockworks coilovers (aus) its a monotube design and its suuuuuuccckkkks on cruising, it doesn’t take up the bumps properly and is bumpy over every single small bump. I heard cusco coilovers are twin tube design and apparently very nice for street application that can give you best of both worlds. Honest opinion please bro. I want wither the cusco or tein!

The Cusco coilovers I got have 40-way adjustable damping, which at the softest setting, is very comfortable on the street. Its not as wallowy as the stock springs, but more dialed in. I also had a choice between Tein and Cusco, decided on Cusco due to being rebuildable at its price point. Best suspension mod!

ScarletMiata sweet man! Thanks for that comment. It honestly gives me more confidence. Both tein and cusco here in Australia are rebuildable however cusco has more adjustable dampening so i think I’ll order some for my wrx! Yes it’s different car but i think it will be great! I’ll be in the Philippines later this year with my filo girlfriend. Hopefully I’ll see you ripping the track 💪

When you want to adjust the damping settings, can you do this yourself or do you need to visit the car shop each time?
@ReygansRides
@ReygansRides 4 года назад
Damping settings can be adjusted with a tiny knob on top of the coilovers, can be done anytime.

Reygan's Rides thank you! How about the rear ones, are they really accessible? Also, can I ask, what settings (how many clicks) do you have yours set for? My style of driving will be similar to yours, I live in Tokyo, but will sometimes go out to the mountains for fast twisty action! Love your videos by the way!

@@AManAboutAVlog thanks Ben! Yes, the rear dampers are also accessible, just need to move thr trunk lining away and it can be adjusted. For street use, i have my fronts at 5 clicks from soft, and rears at 10 clicks from soft. Track use I put them halfway then adjust according to track conditions. Your lucky to be in Japan; love the roads there (compared to ours here). 😊

Reygan's Rides awesome thanks! They have a range of 0-40 clicks, right?

Can you use these coilovers without any lowering?
@ReygansRides
@ReygansRides 4 года назад
The coilovers are shorter than the stock struts so the ride height still goes down a bit

What spring rates did you get for front and rear?
@ReygansRides
@ReygansRides 5 лет назад
It's 6kgf/mm at the front and 3.5kgf/mm at the back. I just adjust stiffness using the damping.
