The level of logic Japan has for daily living is insane, they really take into account the simplest of things and apply efficient and effective solutions like the locking system and umbrella rack. And it's hyper clean, so pleasant to live. Damn Japan is really an intelligent country.

what locking system and what umbrella rack? most places have some kind of security lock system. the difference is not that extreme as you make it sound.

Yeah, I wished it were a bit bigger but it’s got everything a person really needs. Plus to be able to have it in a city like Tokyo, can’t complain about too much I guess.

Tokyo is probably the most reasonably priced world class city. Everywhere else (San Fran, Manhattan, Toronto, Sydney, etc) that place would cost at least 2k and have a huge waiting list.

I very much enjoy the aesthetic of exposed terrace and front doors iconic in Japanese Architecture. American apartment buildings so often look and feel like prisons.

That apartment is nice as hell. Here in South Florida, you'd get something similar but in a roach infested apartment building that looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 80's.

Oh man. I haven’t been there but sounds like a lot of US cities unfortunately. I definitely wouldn’t be able to find a place like this for the same price where I’ve lived (Honolulu, LA, SF).

Dang that sucks, I lived up in Panama City Beach and got 2 bed/bath in a gated community by the water for just over 1k only a year and a half ago.

I am renting an entire house in The city in MN for 1200.00 /month but I have to pay utilities so it’s a bit more, 2 bedroom, 1 bath a garage and basement and deck. But it is a very old house from 1900 and so things are not new. However, it is right in the middle of the city, stores within walking, main downtown 6 min away, gas station and bank 1 block away, train station 2 blocks away, bus 1 block away, etc. so convenience makes up for the really old house.

What are ypu on about? My gf and I had a super nice one bedroom in Miami for about $750. I had moved there from LA so I was amazed. Florida is STILL cheap, I just looked at the cost of living there this week. I was thinking of moving back.

@A. P. Heffel I'm 6'6" and went to Japan a couple of years ago. Banged my head more than a few times too... had to book a western style hotel for a queen sized bed and still barely fit in that.

DARKSEID My father developed severe, debilitating sciatica living in Japan for over 30 years. He was 6'3" and the doctors he saw for it all said he developed the sciatica because he had to constantly bend his neck. It's not a comfortable country for anyone over 5'11" tall. Interestingly, the Japanese get taller and taller every decade, but doorways never get higher. It's a huge physical impediment.

Japan is always so clean. Even for things that aren't as "upscaled". I love Japans priority with cleanliness.

It’s a facade it’s not in. Lean in japan it’s just that garbage duties are shared in each community but generally Japanese are dirty

SEM MHUA Yeah it was fine for me. I feel that Japanese kitchens are on average pretty small though, considering how many dishes are normally prepared in a Japanese meal.

@@barrettish You got a point there. So how does one prepare many dishes with a kitchen that small? There's no space to put anything. I'd be preparing cup noodles, fried rice or rice with only one simple dish with that space. 😂

Ridwan That’s probably what many do... or it’s rice, soup and maybe 1-3 small dishes since it’s only one person. Still wish there was another shelf or something at least.

A lot of people say that apartments like this are too small or too tiddly. Of course, it is not appropriate for raising a family in there but for students etc. more than enough. Personally, I would enjoy living in such a small place. You have everything what you need and the minimalistic layout makes it impossible to buy stuff which you won't need anyway. I hope you enjoy your apartment!

@@barrettish The demand is kinda artificial but eventually becomes the reality. Make it seem like a really hip place to be, and people come, when people come more people come, because those people from before are there. NYC is also like 1/3 the size of Tokyo and won't be expanding anytime soon and all the new developments cater to wealthy upper class types to attract them even more which attracts more people maybe hoping to get noticed by them. This basically means if you're not rich you're going to be miserable and likely grinding for very little to spend on things that will be priced out of your ability soon enough. It's insane and idk when this system is going to finally collapse.

Malik Narayanin In most cases no. Even during the semi-lockdown we had, a lot of companies didn’t fully adjust to allow it. Japanese work culture is very in-person, even their processes require physical approvals and what not. Luckily my company is more flexible than typical.

When I'll be an adult I really want something like that. I often am outside and really enjoy tiny spaces, plus I love mynimalistic designs. I'd like to travel a lot so a tiny house would be perfect. Also, I'd love to live in Japan for a while. Greetings from Italy!

For roughly $600 USD a month my ex-husband (Japanese national) and I had a 3 bedroom apartment in the suburbs of Osaka (ibaraki yamatedai) . Japanese suburbs are much lower in cost. But of course that was a decade ago in '09-'10. For any expats, I would suggest livinng in the Japanese suburbs and commuting to the city for work. The commute isn't too bad. My former father in law would commute from our area to Kyoto because he was a Uni. Prof and he was always home on time for dinner. I'm just saying for any foreigner who wishes to live in JPN you dont have to live in a major city. It's cheaper to be in the neighborhood apartments

lola cruz Yeah suburbs and even Osaka are cheaper than being right in Tokyo. I lived in the countryside in Fukuoka prefecture and was in an old 2-bedroom apartment by myself and it was way cheaper. After 5 years of that, I wanted to live and feel like I’m living in Tokyo which is why I favored a place like this. I’m also not the best in the morning and wanted to make my daily commute as short and easy as possible. When I moved from this place here, I really thought about the commuter pass and what places would be covered. Since that pass gets paid for by work, it’s even better if it covers places I frequent outside of work as well.

The train to/from Kyoto and Osaka isnt a long ride at all, doing that daily is akin to taking the train from thr other parts of Brooklyn to Manhattan. Totally doable.

@@barrettish In general you cannot find small apartments easily in New York; since so many buildings were built so long ago and all the new buildings don't care to make affordable housing so make them just as big. I think it could solve a lot of housing issues here, if we took on the efficient/minimalist apartment design of Tokyo.

Juju Garcia Yeah for sure. I also find that apartments in most US cities are geared to couples or families, so it’s more likely to live with roommates. I hope they do figure out how to make it affordable for people to live in their own spaces - and afford it. I actually don’t know how they manage to do so in Japan...

It's so annoying, because there is a huge market for affordable housing, which could actually net someone a huge profit, especially in Brooklyn, but any developments like that are probably blocked by a lot of parties that stand to lose a lot of money and power, if NYC started adopting smart housing practices found in other big cities in the world

This place is VERY similar to a spot where I stayed in Okinawa in 2018, except there was no door to separate from kitchen, no call phone, no escape (was only on 3rd floor) and like you said the toilet was in a small closet room separate from the sink and small tub. I actually really loved staying there and it was nice and cozy. So nice that you are living there! 😄

James Lade Yup! I think Tokyo has an expensive image, and it is in some ways, but for housing I think it’s quite reasonable especially compared to any major city in the US or Canada.

@@beccas760 Take a look at EZ Load replacements. Instead of a tube, there are two cylinders at each side that hold the roll. When you push up the old roll, they go up (obviously) but also to the sides, retreating. The old roll goes out. Meanwhile, the paper part of the new roll keeps the cylinders pushed away, and when they meet the hole in the middle, they snap back, holding the new roll. Pretty ingenious, actually... And indeed one of those things we wonder why we don't have. 👍💯

This is great. It's best to have small spaces so that one is forced to utilize and organize it better. Frankly I think it makes for an easier life since you really think about what you need versus what you want. It's really neatly set up.

Thats actually very affordable. Even cheap i would say. I pay 570 euros for a 2 story row house in a small town in arguably one of the least desirable areas of the netherlands. In all fairness the government gives me 230 euros in rent compensation, but thats only bc of my low income.

Id love to live in something like this in the future. Tiny and cozy with a cat or two to keep me company, or my best friend. Im lazy and living in small and easy to manage places like this would be good for me. Plus it's cheap and convenient. And you get all the necessary things like the kitchen, bath, toilet, bedroom which is all that you need. I love this tour. Ive been recently obsessed with watching tiny apartments and I can just imagine my life living in one of them lol.

I live in a third world country and I have my own huge beautiful house with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a huge kitchen, amazing garden and nature. Thsnks to these videos I appreciate more the place I live in and make me wanna stay and try to improve my own country instead of running away and move to a overpopulated land.

Yes, I believe if you are not happy in your own country, improve it. Don't go to another country and expect them to obey your customs. I am happy that you are so happy to improve your lot, in life. I could never leave here, I don't even believe in holidays abroad, we need to conserve our worlds resource, not use them for selfish pleasures.

I say this apartment is pretty luxurious, has everything you need to live comfortably in this clean, modern bldg with a washer & additionally 3 mins to train station and convenience stores so close by. For a girl, the kitchen was cute equipped with what's needed.

I think it's a marvelous flat. Easy to heat. Near the station and shops. Everything is compact. Its interesting to see other peoples flats. Mine in Edinburgh, Scotland is small.....but cozy and again convenient for the station and shopping centre. I love your flat.
