Just stumbled on your channel, good shit. My ole BF XR8 ute was pretty sluggish too, I fixed it by trading it on another ute with a LS in it 😂

Cheers man!! Funny you should mention that, the thought has crossed my mind numerous times to swap this for a SS ute😅

Sick man, quite interesting to see the difference a simple tune on something like this can do. Hope the top end isn't too bad!

Sure is dude! Wasn't really sure what to expect as most tuners told me up front there wouldn't be big gains in peak power on the Boss motors with basic bolt-on upgrades, but the torque increase in the midrange alone was well worth it👌🏼 It's no wonder there's huge gains to be made on the XR6 turbo's and the supercharged FG/FGX V8's; they are begging for more boost, more fuel and a re-map!

That dyno graph looks the part. Making a bunch more torque earlier is always going to make it feel waaaay better. I wish I'd been able to get the Mondeo tuned, I had a similar issue, the ST220 cams were a hair more aggressive than the standard 3 litre cams you got in the ST 3L and the Taurus, but you certainly noticed it in the bottom end, there was absolutely nothing home until you were clear of 3 grand.

100%!! It sure does improve the driving experience just having a little extra torque where you need it in the low-mid rpm range. It's definitely odd having a V8 that felt lazy off-idle and brought power on around 3500rpm upwards, it's completely opposite the old 302's in the E-series that I'm used too😂😂

Look at your timing guide every common issue 😅 btw sounds like its got more punch loving the build

Cheers man! Will definitely look into the timing chains/tensioners/guides arrangement and see if anything is suspect. At the moment, the noise seems like its directly over the top of cyl #3, but the rattle on start up sounds exactly like timing chain rattle these boss motors have when the tensioners go bad. Fingers crossed it's nothing too expensive!🤞🏻😂😂

sounds mint man!!! Does it have diff gears (3.7s / 4.11s) or have you thought of getting some installed? they really wake the old 5.4 up!!
@Late-Night-Nate
@Late-Night-Nate Месяц назад
Cheers man! 4.11 gears were one of the first things I wanted to do after I saw that suggestion on the GapSauce channel (blue BA GT). Just haven't got to that yet, also need a True Trac centre to go with it. It currently has a XR6T ute diff in it with the 3.46 gears, it had 3.23 stock but that diff blew up already😅

rear passenger side cylinder head rattle will be the exhaust valve, super normal on the early 4v heads, get yourself some boss 290 heads and a rear coolant line from MMR or something, the 290 doesn't do it bc it has stainless steel valves, degree the stock cams in as they can be out from the factory, or 4.6 cobra (Same gearbox) or LS swap or FG k frame swap and coyote/Godzilla swap (keeping your gearbox)

Cheers for the info mate! Will look into the MMR kit, definitely going to get that fitted to help with the coolant distribution. Unfortunately, the Boss 260/290 parts and even the 4.6 4v parts are quite hard to find up for sale locally, so worse case I'd probably have to get my heads reconditioned which isn't going to be cheap. I guess we will find out soon enough!🤞🏻😅

what rims are these? look sick, might entertain the idea of running them on my au xr8 ute if they're still in production!

These wheels are Rota D2EX. Size is 18x9.5 15p offset front, 18x10 15p offset rear. Will need a little bit of gaurd rolling to clear depending on ride height. Pretty sure they are still being sold these days, the local wheel shops still list them so there's a good chance they are still available 👍🏻
