I've been looking for someone with REAL low density hair like mine! I am inspired by you and your journey. I am a diy loc'r and I too feel like a loctician would try to discourage me. I am 11 months in my journey and I have zero regrets! Blessings to you and thank you for your content.

I have a sensitive scalp, low density hair and psoriasis. It took me years to get a diagnosis and I figured it out myself. Had a test to confirm it with a dermatologist and they gave me Nizoral shampoo and medicated cream to apply. I also cut a lot of sugar, coffee and foods I was having reactions to from my diet. I take a multivitamins high vitamin B complex, primrose oil, star flower oil,iron, zinc & super green vegetables 🥬. Eating and drink alot of green vegetables in my diet really strengthen my hair. Kale, spinach, leafy greens, broccoli 🥦 and drinking more water. Emu oil is a lighter alternative oil to use instead of castor oil (thicker oil) which I noticed helped my hair grow back. Washing my hair more regularly Using a filter on my shower to combat hard water or just having a spray bottle of distilled water/boiled water cooled down. Low tension Massaging my scalp Adding Avocado 🥑 mixes or avocado oil to my hair when I condition.

I had the same concern and I also thought it would be a high maintenance style, something I wasn’t doing in my 50s🤨 I kept delaying the journey, and one day after freshening my braids (my biweekly ritual for the past 5yrs) I decided I may as well loc it since I’m spending the same amount of time on maintenance... I figured I’d make the sections larger like I did with the braids and breakage/thinning from the weight (as they grew) wouldn’t be an issue... Best decision I’ve ever made!!! much less maintenance than braids, especially since I only retwist every 3 to 4 months... sometimes your hair grows faster than others so retwisting helps to prevent bonding/marrying aka “Congo’s”.... the key I found is minimal products (no creams/wax/or thick gels) and quarterly retwist... I still wash weekly and maintain the health, but I had to train myself to keep my hands out of my hair (hand in hair syndrome, it’s a thing😂) and let my locks do what they want to do. The only suggestion I would make is to go smaller in loc size than you think because as they mature they can thicken up almost three times the siz😳 then you’ll have to separate some. Good luck to you✌🏾💜

I also have scalp issues and am on my second set of locs by personal choice. My temporal areas and the napes of my neck are where I see the greatest issue but those areas are a part of who I am as a whole and they are still loved. I wish they could find a cure but since, to my knowledge, there isn’t one, I have to love myself and my hair even more because if I don’t who will? Thank you for your bravery in showing your scalp issues because doing so inspires others. Rock on, Queen or should I say, Loc on, Queen?!

Honestly, I agree with you. I have tried several things to regrow the affected regions including using the irestore helmet (which didn't work). I have come to terms with the situation and I also want to stop experimenting. I do have an appointment next month with a dermatologist and I think I can predict what she will tell me. But either way, as you said, I'm embracing it. I am also sticking with plan B which is hiding the bald spots and if it gets worse, I'm willing to embrace plan C (which is returning to wigs). Life moves on! I still have my Life. Thank God for life and I love your comment! Thank you for your comment, much love❤️❤️❤️

Hi. New UK sub. Thanks for your video. Very informative. My hair is very much similar in appearance to yours. (5 months locd) 3 days ago. My problem is due to an under active thyroid. I would love to colour my hair, but don't want to make the problems worse. From your experience, do you think the colour hides the patches well??? Thanks in advance 😘

@tinnuola 3 года назад
Thank you so much for subscribing. Welcome to the family🤗🤗🤗. Originally, when I freshly dyed my locs, the bald spots were less noticeable due to the colour I used (honey blonde). The colour of the scalp and the box dye were kinda closer in range, causing a funny illusion, compared to a black coloured hair. But with time, as the black strands grew out of the scalp, I started to notice the bald spots again. You will almost think the spots got bigger but no. However, I have also observed the exact opposite reaction with some people who have dyed their locs. I think it all depends on the colour of your scalp and the dye you choose to use.

Honest advice. Start separating only. You’ll see a big difference.
@tinnuola
@tinnuola Год назад
Thank you so much for your advice. The problem with only separating and waiting too long before a retwist is the roots starts to detach from the loc, which causes the locs to be thinner than usual and in the long run detach. I'm yet to lose a loc, but lately, I've been so busy and have not had the time to retwist, so it appears as if I'm about to lose 2 to 3 locs.

Thank you!🤗 Give it time, and it will loc. At the beginning of my loc journey, I usually retwist my locs to the very tip. I use the tiny metal pins to hold the root as well as the tip in place. I believe one of my old posts on IG will show you what I mean. If you are unable find one, send me a direct message on instagram, and I will send a pic to you

I am so grateful that you've shared your journey with us... When did you color your locs? how many months into the journey was it? I just started my journey and I really miss color but I am trying to avoid dry and damaged locs. Please respond.
@tinnuola

Thank you so much for watching🤗🤗🤗. I'm glad you found it useful. I coloured my locs around the 11th to the 12th-month mark using a box dye (I strictly followed the instructions). As long as you don't over-bleach your hair and ensure that your locs stay hydrated, there won't be a problem.

You should try black rice water , I heard its amazing for increasing density

@@tinnuola Yessss , I would love to see the results you get after a month use, I heard it revives dormant follicles .

Fuck it’s so strange that your story is exactly like mine as in exact exact I have low density locs got locs before but guy ised too much wax and so much negativity from people I then removed them but I’m here 9months in and trying it out again I’m just insecure cause they are only 57 and not very full not much volume but I know better days are coming if I’m patient they will look better
@tinnuola
@tinnuola 2 года назад
Wow, that's so wonderful. Good to have you here🤗🤗🤗. I remember when I started my locs, the hairstylist advised that I should only have 50. I thought otherwise. I wanted 100. But now I understand why she insisted on 50. I ended up getting about 95, but there's this constant fear that my locs may break off at some point because they are so thin due to balding in the crown and front region. The back is perfect. Even with my low density, 95 locs wouldn't have been a problem, so I'm hoping that the dormant follicles wake up with time, else down the line, I may have to combine some of the locs in the front. So it's a good thing that you have only 57, and yes with time, it would appear fuller.

@@simpleme6183 If you don't mind, please show them to me 🙂. You can send a message to my Instagram page @TINNUOLA. I have used all of the above and currently still use them on my locs itself. Currently, I'm experimenting with a product but once that finishes, I will resume using my oil mix on my scalp. Because my hair is so thin, I use castor oil but I have to mix it first, so it's not too heavy on the strands.

I have alepica and the spots are coming in but, I don't want to wait for my hair to grow in. What should I do,?

Your question isn't clear. Do you mean that you don't want to wait to heal your scalp from alopecia before you begin your loc journey?
@MsZaneta123
@MsZaneta123 2 года назад
@@tinnuolaIt sounds weird but, yes. I use to have locs years ago but, the hair loss from alepicia was to great and I had to cut them off. I love locs and I miss having them. When I came across your channel, you gave me a little hope that I can have my locs while also healing my scalp.
@tinnuola
@tinnuola 2 года назад
@@MsZaneta123 Yes you can begin again as long as you are working towards looking for solutions to the issue, and as long as you will be maintaining your locs yourself with a lot of care (as I do). You can also find a loctitian who doesn't care about loc neatness but cares about the health of your scalp, which means when it's time to retwist, they won't be placing any type of tension on your hair🤗🤗🤗
@MsZaneta123
@MsZaneta123 2 года назад

Careful dye thins your hair
@tinnuola
@tinnuola 2 года назад
Thanks dear❤️. That's so true! I didn't bleach them. That's really bad for any type of hair. Instead I used box dye and thoroughly followed the directions.. I have done this only once. Surprisingly, the dyed parts appear thicker than the black ones growing out at the moment. I think I know why, I will probably snap a close picture and upload it on my Instagram. I will also explain why I feel it appears thicker in another video.
