So after your Puppy Blues video, I decided NOT to get the puppy I was planning to get for my 3 yr old dog. And I am enjoying my freedom I don’t mean to rub it in. But after hearing you I was like. Yah. no. 😂
Alvin! I tried my first anthurium in no drainage bc of you and Sherman and so far it is loving it! Also ty for the tree fern soil mix idea, my anthurium love it too!
As always you are so informative! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've used your information and the information you've received from others and have been growing my anthuriums so wonderfully thanks to you, Charmaine and Lauren!
I’ve recently started collecting anthuriums! You & Charmaine are the main 2 people that inspired me to start trying with them! Such beautiful plants 🤩🥰
@@youdontevengrowhere I’m glad to hear that! I really hope they do well for me! I don’t have a greenhouse or high humidity area, but room humidity was high enough in the summer (NS Canada) that I didn’t need to worry about it. The humidity is way lower now though, since the cold temps hit us a couple of weeks ago, so I’m hoping things will still be okay despite that 😅 I only got them a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully they’ll be okay once they’re fully acclimated 🤞🏻
Beautiful collection. I understand weather can wreak havoc on plants. A I live in Florida so I will be checking out the plant parent here in Florida. Are anthuriums very picky plants? Do they often throw fits?
I enjoy putting a lot of my big plants into a clear trash bin- the one meant for bathrooms or bedrooms LOL. They've become a lot cheaper compared to trying to find some clear plastic ones online (shipping makes it a lot more expensive), especially since I prefer taking care of my plants without drainage holes nowadays but with a drill or soldering tool, adding holes to them is easy.
Hi Alice, I love your collection. I’m sad to say that I don’t have any anthurium. You make me really want some but I have no more room and no plant friends to trade with..😢. I am living my Anthurium dreams through you.
My fave in the moment at my collection: ❤ Dark Mama ❤ Dark phoenix x fort sherman ❤ David Portilla Dream (its a cros bet Forgettii x Luxurian Dark Form Crocodile Skin) ❤ my tripple hybrid of (Magnificum Verde x AOS) x Bessae aff ❤ Hybrid Pappi (unknown cross but looks amazing) ❤ White Stripes Regale -my recently purchased from Ecuagenera Ecuador. ❤ narrow form vetchii also aiming to have the black form ❤ waroq -hopefully it will strive as more leaves are dying.
I lovelovelove anthuriums. I so far accept that I will never do well w anthuriums as well. I won't give up. So far I will not give up. 🤣 who knows when and if I do give up. Wish me luck w 2 gifted anthuriums to me. No doubt gifted because of the struggles. ❤ Part 2 player. ...❤️🌱❤️🌱❤️🌱❤️
Alice I did get so much out of it! This video inspired me to up-pot my one and only Anthurium, a Vietchii. Also, it was fun and relaxing. Got minimal plant chores done but enjoyed a delicious pumpkin dessert while watching.😄 also, with you on how the big climbers are too stressful..
Hey Alice 😊 I couldn't figure out why some of my anthurium leaves have been yellowing and dying off when they have always been so happy. I know I've needed to repot for a min, but I thought I had time since new leaves aren't coming in any smaller. I didn't realize that's what anthurium do when they are root bound! Thanks so much!!
For the Phoenix, why wouldn't you prune to let it conserve energy and promote new growth? That's what I do and now I'm wondering if that's not the best way? I thought cutting it would help it flower.
@@youdontevengrowhere Thanks!! I potted it in tree fern fibre & soil mix before I found out what it was! Hopefully it'll be happy, even though it's not pon 😂
Carla and BVEP are the two I wanted so so much! All of the crosses I've seen with them hold strong characteristics😊 Also agree with you regarding the HU, the early ones have different (more prominent) veins and round shape. Your DP is just stunning❤ hope mine will grow to this size one day🤞
I have to say that Plant Spectrum Mother grow lights do wonders for dark anthuriums. In my experience, my AOS, Carla, along with my AOS and pap hybrids stay very dark and sit close to the mother lights. 🖤
great video as always!😊 I made a video on the history of AOS since it's such a mysterious and puzzling plant. The owner of a nursery called the Orchid Jungle collected a wild anthurium that had already been naturally pollinated and was about to produce berries. The seeds were harvested and given to the Rotolantes, owners of SKG, who grew them and named one of them AOS. Tezula works with SKG and breeds their aces to have muted veins and super dark leaves, while other sellers like NSE are a bit less dramatic looking by comparison. I wonder if the 'Ace pox' in many dark form Aces are due to a TC botch or genetic virus that kicks in when mature🤔
Oh my goodness, I just purchased a baby dark swan from you, Alice needs to see your adult form, it is absolutely beautiful! Mine has already given me a new leaf.
My hu x red spider is my favourite at the moment just started to produce catalphyll It’s gotten so dark Unfortunately not peltate but it’s still pretty awesome ❤
Can i ask what your soil mix consists of by chance? I use lechuza and seem to have healthy anthuriums but some have very slow growth it seems. Others i have potted in a soiless mix. I am switching over to tree fern fiber but was curious what your mix with the fern fiber is?
Amazing and I love your videos! beautiful Anthuriums! I myself am looking to pick up an AOS DF, RVDP, and Rio Guache. I am experimenting and researching different substrates as well! For now I have decided to have some in Pon and some in 50/50 Aroid/Tezula Tree Fern Fiber 👏🏽
Hi Alice. Thanks for your awesome content. Have always been terrified by anthuriums due to pest problems but you convince me to take the leap. Was wondering if you could recommend a good pendant growlight? I've heard others recommend Soltech but was searching them tonight and found one in the price range of roughly $150 that advertised a life of 90 hours. ???? Surely not. That's about a week at my house. Please help!
You are the one that got me into Anthuriums. I am going to treat myself to a few more Anthuriums for my Birthday. I have always used pon in my Anthuriums, but after watching your videos I started adding small size Orchiata bark, small leca, chunky perlite and charcoal. I spoil my Anthuriums.
I JUST found a local florist that sells a larger version of the pillar vases in the same style you’re growing your dark phoenix in! But I wanted to suggest glass jars meant for pantry goods. I use Hocking Heritage glass jars, the largest I have is 2 gallons! Also, clear trash bins from target!
Love your anthurium collection! I think I may have met Amanda a couple of years ago. She traded some anthurium with me for a Berriziobalense. She was very nice, but unfortunately I have lost contact with her.
Hello! I started collecting Anthurium several months ago. Once a leaf is fully established, will it still turn toward the light source? Or, once it gets oriented, does it stay facing that directed? Thank you...I love your love of Anthurium ❤
I bought a Fall Platinum Box from KartelDaun and there was an Anthurium Dark Phoenix x RLFS in it. Seeing your Dark Phoenix cross makes me all the more excited to see this plant grow! Oh, and they're still shipping in November. I don't know if/when they'll stop for the winter...
Loveeee!! Your dark phoenix is absolutely stunning. I can definitely relate to growing plants on the more narrow side, I’m really not sure what causes it but I’ve recently switched to growing all my anthurium in ambient conditions so we’ll see how things change up 😅😂 My favorite anthurium would 100% have to be wendlingeri! I’m obsessed with collecting the different types, it really is such a gorgeous and variable species. I’m sitting at around 20-25 right now and am always on the lookout for new ones! 🥹
Really enjoyed this vid; I have a new understanding & love for anthuriums. Your description of each plant & its nuisances is refreshing; your passion shows how precious anthurium collection is. Thanks for sharing!
