I'm in love with this dress .I always wanted to use Ankara fabric for something vintage and now I'm more inspired to do so.

Whenever I see Ankara if feels like it needs to be on something grand to really show off all the details I feel like vintage or historic garments really give that opportunity.thank you so much

You and Mr. SewRena did a fantastic job restoring that Singer! I agree with you on the knee peddle. I taught myself to sew with a knee peddle machine 55 years ago and I find it much less fatiguing than a foot peddle. Keep the videos coming!

Well you did it again, raising the bar! I love the dress and the fabric is stunning! You simply amaze me, your skills, thought process and how you use what you have! Using the ruffles to make your own trim is fab! Love everything you do ❤️. Wish we lived closer you could come and take a few machines off my hands, I would then know they would be loved and used. As we are just keepers of these old work horses!

Oh, that is a beautiful dress. Well done. I love the fabric, the trim, the fit,... everything. And I agree that they would have been using the different presser feet to make their own trims. Your machine is beautiful. It's wonderful that your husband was able to bring her back. I have a 1915 hand-crank Singer 99k and I feel like I'm sewing with a Stradivarius. The grandparents were not kidding around in their design and execution - I still can't get over the 1mm stitch length. You probably know this already, but The Featherweight Shop sells LED replacement bulbs for the light. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

Speaking of old sewing machines, I inherited my Singer 66k (egyptian lotus) sewing machine from my grandma, and she originally got it from a dear friend who passed away soon after. It's a simple straight stitch, but i don't want another machine with lots of extras...I feel like it was meant for me ❤.

Your dress is gorgeous!!! Such yummy fabric and trim. I think you'll find that Edwardian ladies had hooks and bars in pairs at points around the garments--one on the bodice the other on the skirt to hold them together. I'd ask a historical sewist where to place them.

@@SewRena I may or may not be on year 2 lol 😝. That being said, I have made a replica of the Met Museum combinations inspired by @Bernadette Banner (and nearly all of RU-vid/CosTube and fans of fashions from that era). I am also midway through a c. 1890s riding corset. I had to remake shied to a 60 pound weight loss from illness. I completed a petticoat with open sides and ties for closure to accommodate any future weight changes, and pockets! I do intend to add pockets to the dress, or at least access to pockets in the petticoat. I cheated much of the trim using ribbon from Dollar Tree (2 cases of ribbon came home with me lol). Now, we come to the greatest source of my procrastination the Lace! I knit and crochet and tat. So couldn’t find any lace that sparked joy, I made my own lace. I spent a year learning bobbin lace, I practiced creating lace on dryer sheets I could tear away after attaching to the top. I’m still not sure I’ve settled on all the choices. I don’t mind the time. I love the learning and the process.
@catherinejustcatherine1778
@catherinejustcatherine1778 Год назад
It looks fantastic! I agree with the historical-type solution of hooks & eyes to keep your top tucked in. Since it's a Butterick homage to the era, you may want to try velcro or snaps instead. Lengthening it would certainly help, but, the lengthening swatch might show But, really, in the reveal & thumbnail, it looks great! I did notice in the beautiful short, tho. I'm not sure how you intend to clean it, but, maybe a channel with some sort of chain in it, or something like the weights at the bottom of a curtain. But, they'dhave to come out when washed...

When I was doing Civil War costuming, I worried about that problem of the waist riding up or coming untucked. What I used to do was add a narrow band, if necessary, to the bottom of the waist, and used hooks on the skirt and corresponding eyes on the waist. Several ladies told me it was more comfortable to wear, because it shifted the weight of the entire garment to the shoulders instead of having to have the skirt waistband so tight and supported by the hips alone.
@suem6004
@suem6004 Год назад
Great job! Re tuck in. You may just want to add an inch or two to bodice length. Wondering if hooks attaching skirt to bodice on the inside would help. My corsets hold the heavy skirts with a big hook and eye. So, maybe the heavy skirts would benefit from such instead of gravity pulling it down. I have several vintage machines and love them. They go through anything. Nice to see a vintage outfit on a vintage machine. You rock
@SewRena
@SewRena Год назад
Thank you so much! I was thinking about adding more hooks to keep the bodice and the skirt together. Or I might extend the binding on the bodice and make it more of a waistband. Thanks for the feedback
