Very informative video, I built a similar video rig last year using a 7" daylight viewable monitor. I used a 90deg HDMI adapter on the camera to reduce stress on the cameras port, I agree that it is too easy to damage and shouldnt require a new motherboard to repair.

Nice video and great setup! I have the same Andycine monitor cage but mine doesn't have movement like that, I would check to make sure you have it installed correctly cause I think the cage can be installed in a different orientation, I did a video about that cage a while back. Not really. I went SIII because the AF is damn good, I often times resort to catching focus in auto then switching to MF for the shot. With a manual lens I would rig that just for ease of use.

Use the same rod mount + Manfrotto tripod plate but I use the Smallrig half cage for my A7iii. That way if I only need the camera there's only a small bracket on the bottom of the cage. Downside is that I can only mount a grip on the left side but not a big deal. I have the new smallrig matte box on pre order (as it's cheaper than the polar pro one). Smart idea to keep the matte box rod clamps loose so you can easily zoom - need to remember that one :-). I've used UURIG (=NiceRIG?) parts but though cheaper than Smallrig, they don't seem to fit that well - a6400 cage with top handle kept wobbling.

Hey Mark. Once again thank you for an awesome video. I have all my parts and I am build out the rig as I type. One question.... I’m building out the base plate right now. I’m connecting the two bottom base plate to the rig. I find that the quick release plate quick turn handle bump the rails, blocking from being able to turn to release the plate. In order to resolve this, I removed the washer off of the quick release base plate. Did you have to do do the same thing? Or am I misaligning the process? I cant seem to keep my rails from blocking the quick release mechanism. Thanks again.

Hey there! That solution is to pull the quick turn handle out over the nut inside, after it has tightened a little. You can then turn it back a little and thighten some more. Did I make myself clear???

To avoid front-heaviness I'd replace the Polarpro matte box with the smallrig/Tilta mini matte box. Instead of V mount battery, I'd install a short power bank vertically at the back.

Looking great. Would be interesting to see how easily this could turn into a gimbal setup on something like the Ronin RS2. Been playing with the idea of attaching the tophandle to the side of the Ronin, so that you get the dual grip with a monitor. But would you be able to balance a gimbal with the rails and matte box?

Not the commercial ones. Ronin M no problemo. THe idea was to be able to quickly disassemble the thing, or have various configurations that will also fit smaller gimbals. That's why I use all the nato rails.

Hi, just wondering, would the matte box still align if you didn’t raise the camera with the big quick release plate and the cage? What I mean is you said that there are rail systems with integrated quick release, if you mounted the camera directly on it then it wouldn’t align with the matte box

No, if you want to use the rail mount you need to be at a certain hight. YOu could choose to only connect it to the lens though. The all in one qr plates will give you the minimum height by default.

Hope you can RIG UP a Z CAM E2 M4 also a set up which you can easily transition from Hand held configuration to Gimbal mounting by attaching the right QUICK releases eco system to the camera. Yes, except tge cage and the corresponding hdmi clamp must be for the a7iii. Also you need hdmi(ninja) to MICRO hdmi(a7iii). Other than that it'll work just the same.

Really depends on how your projects look. For what I do I can skip the vmount easily for example...if image handling is more important than lasting power then I would go with the Mattebox and filters. If you're style is fast and the conditions are volatile, definitely the matte box and filters. If you're style or priject is rather a slow but long burn and switching power sources can become a problem, then the v mount.

Matte box - a huge batteryis really only more useful for extended shooting. You can keep your rig smaller and lighter (and cheaper) if you're willing to do more battery swaps between takes. If you're shooting handheld, the weight can even become a quality issue in your footage, as your hand/arms get tired. I would like to try powering everything from one V-Mount to see if the setup can be made a little more compact.

I am Still debating whether to get a cheaper version of a pelican case with foam inlays, or a separate backpack/trolley combo for this setup specifically......not sure yet. Currently It is devided up between two backpack/trolleys. Think I will get a hardcase with foam inlays though.....

You mentioned in another video that you prefer the NP=F750s over the 970s. Can't decide between the two. What sort of runtime do you get for a monitor and the camera using those batteries? Also, looking at the Newer brand since they have seen the most reliable short of the official sony batteries.

The exact runtimes I don't even know:) I like the form factor the best. I would assume roughly 2 to 2.5 times the runtime of the FZ100s...

Changing lenses is annoying with this setup though. Its not for everyone but looks cool. I think halfcage rig suites me more because I also shoot photos from time to time Also maybe you could bring monitor a bit closer and it would balance it more? I would try to do that to lessen front heaviness. Generally I like the idea of easily accessible screen

Any thoughts on this build out vs just buying a more cinema type camera like an FX6 or C70? With ND built in you would only need to include the wireless transmitter on the top handle, done.

That's an easy one: A7C. Same Image Quality as the A7III and a Tilt Svivel Screen. I say A7C for sure for you.

Just film with the mximum qaality and render with YT setting from your editing software. You can stick to 8bit 100mbit right away if you want to only use your video for youtube and save some space on the sd card.

Hey, Adrian! Thanks for the nice compliments:) Me personally I just don't like the regular sandwich/stack behind the camera because the way I shoot i constantly alter setttings on the fly and the v mount blocks the back of the camera. Also I hold the camera in front of me, and I can hold the whole thing closer to my body which is more convenient for me. What would I do with the nano..... The easy answer would be to just use longer rails and hook it up like you would a regular v mount...... Rig it to the right side and use it as a side handle:) Longer rails in the front and flip it down.......can't set the camra down then... If you don't use the video transmitter, left side of the top handle could work...... It's tricky.....damn....:)

Btw just letting u know, in the comments you say the rods are 15cm (6inches). But I bought those and the ones you have in the video are clearly larger by about 2 inches. The ones you linked are the correct ones though. Awesome vid anyway!
