Very interesting Kelly. I don’t think people who are NOT self employed take into account the overheads involved in running a business. For a number of reasons, I became self employed after moving to America from the UK. So yes, the top line may look good, but no work, no pay. I admire what you do so much Kelly.

Thank you, Kelly. I think we've got so used to free content that it's easy to get forget that creators have to make a living and should get a fair reward for their hard work.

As a fellow introvert , I really appreciate information on how to grow my life in new and interesting ways without physical face to face contact. I am sure your model is unique to you but it gives me courage . Kelly you’re a gem 💎- a shining star 🌟 - thanks for being so inspiring and supportive.

If you go back to my first videos on RU-vid I didn't even show my face for the first 13 or so videos, and after that sporadically. I gradually built up confidence to start facing the camera after a friend encouraged me to do it and I realised I had to get over my hang ups, all the negative talk was in my head. I'm glad I started doing it because it allows me to have a much more connected and personal relationship with my audience. But there are plenty of RU-vidrs who have never shown their face in their videos, it can be done. And there are lots of ways to go about business without being confident and extroverted, I'm living proof of that!

Very informative Kelly. Plus it is sooo nice to spend time with you ❤ PS If any viewers are interested in your Weaving School, I recommend it wholeheartedly. Consider it the best way to increase the value (and enjoyment!) from the investment you've already made in a loom(s) and yarn ❤

This is a very informative video. Thank you for a realistic view. A lot of creators present like making tons of money is a walk in the park. I found this very interesting.

Being an entrepreneur is definitely not a walk in the park but it is so rewarding in so many ways that I wouldn't want it any other way now 😊

Thank you for another informative video. For the life of me, I’ve never been able to understand how a business or representative of a business can behave so unprofessionally by not even responding to another professional regarding a potential partnership. So don’t take it personal, it is their loss when they don’t see potential.

Thanks for the encouragement! From a business perspective, I do understand that they probably get a large volume of emails containing proposals. And I do tend to take things too personally, which is a fault of mine ❤️

Thank you for sharing your streams of income. I am a knit and crochet designer, internationally published (and ripped off 😏) author, and editor. I self-publish patterns too (have had a yarn company actually steal a pattern and gave it away in yarn kits 🤦‍♀️) and understand the struggle. The fiber arts took a huge hit the last few years. I’m still being published in magazines but there aren’t many left to submit to. I love your idea of charging a small amount for a newsletter. They actually take a lot of work and planning. I’m starting to teach online classes (Zoom) and hope this helps fill the gap in the income loss. You are a blessing and inspiration, sweet sister! I wish you much success!

You're not the only one to have your work stolen, it happens in all kinds of ways unfortunately 😕 Yes, a newsletter is a lot of work, actually online business in general is a lot of work and it's changing. It is much harder to be successful in this space than it was several years ago.I'm looking for even more ways to diversify income because I'm seeing downward trends in my current business. Teaching on zoom is a great idea, often people will pay more for live classes. I haven't done much live, as it is difficult to line up time zones. I would love to visit your site if you can give me the address?

Kelle this was a very good video. People need to have realistic goals when they decide to start their own business. Whether it is online or out in the world. And diversifying is important.

I feel like I'm doing ok at the moment. This week I'm focusing on getting my health and exercise routine back in place after being away for a week with family. Don't worry, I know when I'm doing too much and need to pull back 😉

Thanks for the interesting video. I find it interesting that your handmade items were so low on the list. Were these ever able to to make the same as the larger income streams? Or were the sales not sufficient enough on their own? I used to sell some handmade items on Etsy, but the sales were dire - worse even - I had 5 over a 9 month period. I still have an Etsy shop with a few items in it, but have only sold 2 or 3 items in the past year. I've now built a completely separate business selling items (not handmade) which is doing really well for sales, but is not enough (yet) to provide a liveable income.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 месяца назад
The handmade sales were not sufficient on their own. I did not have the time required to dedicate to concentrated weaving in order to have enough volume of items to sell. And it's always challenging to get paid enough for your time as a weaver.
@amandag5072
@amandag5072 2 месяца назад
@@KellyCasanova That's what I found. Finding that balance of having the time to make without working excessively long hours, with being able to get the sales needed to live - is extremely hard, if not impossible. I couldn't find it either, which is a shame, and also why I would support a universal basic income - it would allow creators to survive while being creative.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 2 месяца назад
@@amandag5072 I do think it's possible, as there are weavers making a living from it, some are even doing really well. But there have to be systems in place and you have to be able to find a market that will support the pricing you need to charge. For me, my kids were quite a bit younger when I was selling my weaving, so I had big family responsibilities and couldn't dedicate the time solely to weaving.
