"Life happened, and life got in the way." I don't know if I've ever related to a comment more. My '96 is my "pull from a burning house" guitar. Thanks for sharing!
If I could go back and find a way for life to have not gotten in the way I probably would! So glad I'm finding myself again though! Thank you for relating!! :)
this guitar brings back the memories. i had a blue jag-stang when i was in highscool. i mowed lawns and saved up all summer to buy it and the case. i don't remember the year it was though, i just remember it had the Designed by Kurt Cobain and Fender 50 Years of Excellence stickers.
I love you. You are my musical/spiritual mate. Just ordered a Sonic blue jag-stang after decades of procrastinating. I feel very much connected to your journey.
Love this video! I like how you took us on a ride with your personal story, i found it very interesting and it just made this video so much more enjoyable! I don't have a Jag-Stang myself yet, but i am sure it'll be the next guitar I am looking for. Keep rocking! :D
My daughter is 14 and a guitarist. She started a channel recently and loves Nirvana. Subbed to you to help you grow because I appreciate the effort. 👍👍
Hello Ms Offset. The courier delivered my left handed Fiesta Red Jag-Stang this morning (a Sunday!). Seeing you asked, I really don't see many differences? The biggest is the shade of red, yours appears to be 'RED' where as mine isn't. The colour is hard to describe but I guess it has more orange? Also, it's missing the "designed by Kurt Cobain" which is a shame. Everything else looks the same to me. I'm an average sized man who has only ever played violin and mandolin so the scale length, FB radius and neck thickness were a big part of my choice. It's easy to get in left handed and designed by a famous left hander. I like the pickups. Maybe you could buy a current Sonic Blue Jag-Stang and make a comparison video?
Cool video, I’ve got one of the first Jagstangs from USA imported to UK, great feel, cool sound, the paint is terrible, damages soo easily, got a lovely original Fender Jagstang hard case with it also, put it through a Fender twin reverb with a tube screamer and ds1, great sound !!??
7.25 radius is great and easy to play if not bending strings much. Chords in first position are a breeze so they have their utility for sure. Thanks for showing Kurt’s drawings of the guitar Ashley.
the first time nirvana played in chicago i knew who they were. i went there but missed them do the whole thing..was there for the late show which was not nirvana. on the howard stern show Courtney told howard thats the night they hooked up
Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar and Playing. Sounds great. I have an Australian Company Artist Guitars 'Falcon' Guitar in Surf Green as my 'Mustang' Style Guitar. Such a Fun Guitar to play and very Inspirational. Big DS-1 fan here good to see it in use. All the best. Cheers
Thank you! Surf green is such a great color for guitars! I was just gifted the DS-1 last week because I had been using the Jag-Stang a little more. I love it so much!
I remember when I got my 96 left handed fiesta red Jag-Stang it was like someone gave a million dollars. But it was used and had dings but that didn’t matter to me. But I do remember paying $350 dollars for it
Not sure if you see comments on older videos, but just FYI: Notches midway up the back of the neck are from the guitar being dropped onto, or prolonged storage on, a cheap guitar stand. If you'd prefer the scoring on the pickguard not be there, a replacement mother-of-pearl Jag-Stang pickguard is only ~$15. You didn't mention it, but he hole in the bottom face of the cylindrical tailpiece is for a whammy bar; if you don't have it, the ~$10 replacement tremolo arm differs from the Stratocaster as it's much longer.
My first Fender was a Mustang that I got it in 1969. Short scale guitars are definitely easier to play. I was in a band and we practiced in an old warehouse belonging to a friend of the family. My guitar stand was a concrete block with a hole in the bottom for the base and a stack of concrete blocks to hold the neck so the notches I had on the back of my guitar neck were from the concrete blocks LOL!! I think the most unique sound was the out-of-phase on both pickups. Excellent demo! Gave you a shout out on my last video. All the best!
I had that video saved in my "watch later" for when I got a second! I love the lighting you have going on in your video too. I can't thank you enough for that shout out. I just sat there saying, "wow". So very kind. I'm also laughing about your concrete guitar stand! I wonder if that's what the previous owner of my guitar had going on. Another person in the comments mentioned the same thing! Anyway, thank you for always having such kind words. I look forward to your next video!
😀👍 Thanks - I will keep working on my video quality with yours as a benchmark! Back in the day we didn't think out guitars would ever become collectible and that was when people were lighting them on fire at concerts HAHAHAHA!!
Holy shit.. during the 90´s i was (and still am) a huge Nirvana fan, i bought all the albums and singles, even the import ones and the bootleg ones that i got from my local CD store, he had a catalog from where to order quite decent bootleg CD´s and rare imports. In 1996 i was totally in to buying a Jag-Stang because it was something that Kurt designed from he´s vision of the most perfect guitar, i could not find a Jag-Stang, this was way before it was possible to get anything on ebay or such. in 1998 i ended up with a 1998 Candy Apple Red Fender Cyclone, the owner of the musicstore said that well,.. its just like a Jag-Stang, i said, well, but its not, because Kurt did not design this. But i bought it and i had it for some years. Then my life crashed and i had to sell most of my guitars so i sold it. Today i dont really have a need to have a Jag-Stang because i am more in to Gibson´s, but i really like the Jag-Stang and the looks of it.. Really nice Nirvana riffs at the end of the video.. if i can wish a song from you to play it would be Serve The Servants, because its a super great song.. :D Thanks
Sounds like you have very good taste! Thank you taking the time to leave this comment 😀 I actually haven't tried Serve the Servants, so that'll be a great one to do next! Now it's stuck in my head 😅
If you like the short scale feel you should try a Wolfgang, it's a 25.5 scale but Eddie moved the neck back in the body further so it feels like a short scale, and the necks are awesome.
Oh, that is super interesting! Would love to check that out one day. EVH guitars are something I've not ventured into yet, but have heard nothing but amazing things. Thank you for commenting!!
@@AshleyOffset And they are offset guitars. In fact, if you compare an EVH Wolfgang to a Jaguar or Jazzmaster side-by-side, the similarity is readily apparent. The MusicMan Axis with the flat top preserves the additional similarity -- the arch top of the Wolfgang creates an additional point of difference but in the end it doesn't make huge difference in how the guitar plays.
I also prefer small fret boards, I do the same placement of black scratches on pick guards from guitar pics. Looks like previous owner was trying to get away from hitting switches as they picked.
Interesting! I hadn't really thought of that as all my stands are padded. They're like perfect little notches lined up, almost like someone was keeping count with tally marks. If I get another one with them I'll think of you! Haha :) Thanks for watching and the comment too!
@@AshleyOffset My pleasure... also, here's some unsolicited feel better... I never dropped a guitar in my life. I started playing same age as you. I bought a 60th anny R9 ( I was 60 then...) and a Dunlop straplock at the top bout gave way and the headstock slammed right into my pedalboard. I have a sold crush on the back head wing. There was a 1k value mistake. Your dents are battle scars. Be proud (you didn't do what I did)!
Beautiful guitar and nice playing. I, personally, could never get into Nirvana. When they broke out in 1991/92, I didn't get it and all I could think was how depressing their songs sounded. Clearly, I was in the minority.
There is another young woman on RU-vid that does music lesson videos with a Mustang that is seafoam green with a green pearl pickguard. Looks really cool.@@AshleyOffset
Really? I guess I'll have to keep playing around until I find the sweet spot. Or maybe I need to work on finger strength! I'm battling 10s and it's sad 😅
Yes! I agree, it is severely underrated! It was my only amp until several months ago. I got it back in the day when I got my first electric guitar. It's just so versatile that I never felt the need for anything else. So cool that you also have one!!
