Starting helicopter lessons in a turbine helicopter is like starting fixed wing training in King Air 90.
@maddogmorgan1
@maddogmorgan1 Год назад
No not really, it's much easier in some ways. Engine management is the main difference. Primary fixed wing training in my Air Force is in the turbine Pilatus and rotary is in the Jet Ranger.

Starting helicopter lessons in a turbine helicopter is like starting swimming lessons in waters that are not freezing and shark-infested.

Amazing flying for your first lesson Tommy! Most people would start in a R22 or G2 or R44 so fab you're able to fly the H125! Can't wait for part 2.

I grew up having a friend who owned an AS350 and an MD500D. Did many hours in the MD500 but then decided I wanted to get my license. I was mortified to fly the Robinson and discover just how dangerous those things are. Any negative G can cause a mast bump... and down you go. No thanks. I'll take the fully articulated rotor system that doesn't require me to get a SFAR 73.

@@RealRickCoxhahaha i got an SFAR 73 for the r22 and all of what you said is true. i wish I could hop in an MD500 or h125

Anyone else starts on something like an R-22, at best. Somehow I'm not surprised you go straight to a turbine helicopter. I bet you'll get proficient in no time.

Not bad on first hovering lesson. What helped it click for me is when hovering close to ground, don't look at the area nearest to the aircraft as you'll notice all the small movements and will, over time, overcorrect. Pick a point, usually down the runway, and focus on that area.

I agree with some of the comments below it’s not all that common to be learning on a turbo and helicopter. I think the smaller r 22s or r 44s would be better. Also, that’s not the cheapest helicopter that you’re flying in either. Good luck with your lessons, Tommy.
@PlaneJunkies

R22/44 is cheaper but also high risk

Fun video. Cockpit audio recording through the go pro is easy to set up in the H125. It helps filter out unwanted aircraft noise and let’s the viewer clearly hear instructor feedback and interaction. Please demonstrate good ADM by utilizing the checklist. Best of luck with your training!🚁

30 plus years a go I had a boss in the spray business that could fly a fixed wing through the eye of a needle! He said he had 4 hours in a helicopter.Then he said it took 4 hours to try to get it to stand still long enough to get out of the damn thing!

yaaaay! Keep vlogging!! Even if the views are lower than on your Pilatus videos, these are still great. In other news, I work for a company that will reimburse the cost of flight lessons. I was considering whether to do fixed wing or rotary. Any thoughts?

Stick with the H125 or the AS350. They're safe... unlike the Robinson. Those things are death traps.

By the way: I’m looking for one of your older videos where you were in your bi plane, flying over the desert and doing some aerobatics. You were doing a corkscrew kind of maneuver around some guys that were on airfoils. Something like that you were using a GoPro max I believe or some thing that kept the Horisont level as you did your corkscrew around the jumpers. Which video is that can you point me to it please.?
