You’re absolutely right, these would sound so much better live in concert. The thing about Taemin and Shinee is that the MVs really don’t do them justice. The liver performances are always 100x better. Besides Taemin, Jonghyun and Onew have some of the best vocals of their generation, Jonghyun is still considered to be one of the best in the industry, even though he’s not with us anymore. If you want to get a feel for the group, I recommend the live versions of “Excuse Me Miss” and “Strangers” from their 2015 concert. I think that would be a great teaser to introduce them, and then if you still want to get into them, then please continue the journey.

OKAY SO HERE’S A TEA ABOUT TAEMIN’S “CRIMINAL” 👑 Criminal is based on STOCKHOLM SYNDROME. There was a verse that says: “I’ve been collared by you It hurts so much that I can’t breathe, But I’m in ecstasy” It’s said that the lyrics were made based on STOCKHOLM SYNDROME. It’s where fear starts to make you feel positive emotions for a person keeping you in an extreme situation. This particularly happened in a bank robbery that occured in Stockholm, Sweden in 1973 where four employees were held hostage by robbers in a standoff with the police. Attachment formed between hostages and robbers. Hostages refused to testify against robbers and EVEN PROTECTED THEM. Swedish criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot named it STOCKHOLM SYNDROME. “I know well that it’s bad for me, that gaze and those movements Though I try to escape you Like I’m brainwashed, I nod along” THE LYRICS FIT THE CONCEPT SO WELL! Now, you can see there were 2 main characters in the MV portrayed by Taemin himself. The first one is the criminal who was chained by the police force. Second, the flower-like, innocent Taemin who has a scar on his nose which is the victim. Another one, right before the chorus comes out, there was a phrase “Ruin me more” which is in Korean, the pronunciation can be also meant for “Run Away”. It’s like “Try running away if you think you can”. When Taemin was recording the song, they agreed it would be better if it sounded ambiguous, so the phrase was INTENTIONAL. That’s how they recorded it. The lyricist of “Criminal” said on an interview with MOMOE that in the process of fixing up the lyrics, Taemin led the opinion to make it a little more conceptual. So they narrowed down the theme to Stockholm Syndrome. If you listen to the bridge of the song, you can hear pieces of news reports in Korean and English. When they created the guide music, you could hear that part only faintly. Taemin requested that he wanted lines to make it sound like a movie so the team wrote out all those lines and worked on it like a script of a film. If we go back to the pre-chorus of the second verse: “My heart torn open with scars is already filled with your fingerprints Then again, my hand holding onto yours that stabbed me isn’t clean either” For that part, if the lyrics before were more like being dragged along even as you say no, from the pre-chorus of the second verse, it was more like becoming an accomplice in this criminal love. You perfectly assimilate into what’s going on. So, in a way, it’s both a confession of love and a confession of a crime. Plus, in the choreography, Taemin suggested that his hands should be tied up to convey the story more to the audiences. I MEAN, THE TALENT THIS MAN HAS. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

yeah the songs you have seen from shinee he was still a teenager (in replay he was 14) but he & the rest of shinee do evolve through years and you see that in him and the rest of the groups. like for example if you see (view, tell me what to do, dream girl & married to the music) you will see how much they are grown, their vocals are insane in tell me what to do he also evolved and get better and better with time; his vocals get better and better with each new solo album he releases as more vocal songs I would say to hear (rise- clockwork-heaven-snow flower-already) are good examples. he has songs with red velvet wendy & seulgi too, the song with wendy is called be your enemy & the song with seulgi is called heart stop

if you want to react to vocals check out a live stage of “Heaven” from 2020 on music shows, he is really an insanely good vocalist for being the main dancer of his group. All of SHINee have exceptional vocals ❤️ Taemin also writes songs btw but the lyrics he writes tend to be more.. sentimental? (for example Day and Night, Soldier, 2 Kids, Pansy etc are some songs he wrote and they’re all “slower” and more emotional than what you’ve heard just now) One song I can really recommend is “Under my Skin” it’s a completely different side of him and it has a MV but in this one maybe reacting to a lyric video is also good because he released the song after a really difficult time in his life and it’s full of meaning. Taemin didn’t write the lyrics to this one but told the songwriter what message he wants to convey ❤️ And another song where his vocals shine beautifully is “RISE” from his Sirius tour this one is actually a MUST listen and performance to watch, many more people should see it! The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. (And if you ever saw Taemin dressed like a girl, you would see why. He really could pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) Which ended up giving him a real complex about the fact that people never saw him as a masculine man. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (He is 27 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender. Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists, as well as the youngest member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. But I hope you read this 😁 SHINee is a 5 member group with *contemporary concept* (Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, Taemin) and has always been respected in the industry for having the cleanest reputation (barely any controversies) , acknowledged as the best *MALE DANCE GROUP* (with intricate choreos and clean synchronization) . SHINee is also called the trendsetters in fashion and it was admitted by some huge designers that they got inspired a lot by SHINee. The fandom is called *SHAWOL* (SHINee's world) and it is one of the calmest and dedicated fandom (no dramas, barely any fan wars). there are several songs that made them huge in the K-pop world . The heartbreaking point for SHAWOL till this day is when Jonghyun, the main vocalist passed away due to depression. Jonghyun's suicide and death has caused a lot of K-pop fandoms to grief and it is extremely a huge lost to the K-pop industry since he has always been respected by the public for his cheerful and kind personality. He also has contributed a lot in songwriting for SHINee and the members, as well as writing and producing for his juniors and other singers. I would love to recommend SHINee songs for you to react : Older songs are : 1) *Replay/Noona You're pretty* - the debut song which is so different. It is a calmer rnb song compared to other male groups debut songs haha. This song is the book for other juniors in K-pop and a lot of them said this song is their inspiration) 2) *Ring Ding Dong* - the breakthrough song for them. A very contemporary song (I prefer to watch live or the dance practice TO GET MORE FEELS YOU KNOW) Now onto TAEMIN 1) He debuted with SHINee at the age of 14, which is very young compared to the other SHINee members, so he used to get bullied when he was in school . SHINee members would walk him to school to protect him. 2) His biggest influence is Michael Jackson and that kind of explains his vibe and his persona in dancing. He is even acknowledged by a lot of dancers as the K-pop MJ . I personally dislike to attach him with that image cause I feel like he has his own skills & vibes but I understand where they're coming from. 3) Taemin is the main dancer in SHINee and in his earlier debut days, he was also got bullied by netizens because his vocals are not as strong as other SHINee members and it made him barely sang. Karma is a SHAWOL lmao) 4) Imagine from getting bullied,, then debuted as a main dancer and now successful af, serving as the main dancer and the lead vocalist. I've known Taemin since he debuted with 5HINee in 2008. He caught my eye first because of his dance and cuteness. However all 5HINee members are their own total package. They work hard and that shows especially through their live performances. Taemin is a direct example of the success that passion and dedication brings. I am so proud of how far 5HINee and Taemin has come. Others have recommended some great Taemin vocals to react to. I would add Nemo and Clockwork to the mix, which are songs from his latest album Never Gonna Dance Again which received a lot of global recognition last year.

Never been this early to a Sir Austin vid, I’m so happy with your reactions lately- it’s mostly SM Ent. Artists! Taemin is my bias in SHINee and I literally watched him debut in 2008. It’s like growing up with him (from Taemin to TaeMAN) so I’m really proud of how far he’s come.

The way taemin live is something i don’t think you’re ready for manz is sensual asf 😭 but if you’re talking about just him singing a ballads or acoustic songs the passion!! Welcome to the duality that is Taemin. Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists, as well as the youngest member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014 and these songs are part of his 3rd Korean solo album called Never Gonna Dance Again. It is part of a trilogy which started with his prologue "2 Kids," and continued with "Criminal" which is part of Act 1 of the album. "Idea" is part of Act 2 of the album and it brings the whole concept full circle. As Taemin said in an interview: "The two acts put together tell a story. ‘2 Kids’ is about growing pains and depicts the story prior to the story in the album. You can think of '2 Kids' as a teaser before the movie called 'Never Gonna Dance Again.' Act 1 shows a new side of me. I think it’ll be something you’ve never seen in K-pop before. And Act 2 is the end-all-be-all. It’s the ultimate level of intensity. Never Gonna Dance Again’ was originally the name of the concept. Because it doesn’t make sense for me to stop dancing. But I wanted to give a sense of rebellion with the irony of the title.” And just so you know, Taemin is not the criminal in "Criminal." He is being held captive by the criminal who is the girl he is singing about. The song is about living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed by the girl to the point where you are suffering from stockholm syndrome and you have now fallen in love with the person who is inflicting all the pain and suffering on you. Even though you are being abused by that person you can't help but love them and allow them to continue to hurt you, etc. :D Some have said, and I have to agree, that "Idea" is a metaphor for the way Taemin sees his career. He loves what he does, almost to the point of obsession -- like "my messiah" he is drawn to it and can't help worship it -- he practically needs to dance and perform to survive. But, at the same time, it pretty much controls his life and living as an Idol means everything he does is done in the public eye and he will never be able to live a normal life -- his "dangerous dream" that is engulfing him and "swallowing him" up. The stress and constant demand for perfection he feels may be slowly "Killing me softly," etc. I particularly like the verse in "Idea" that says, "The blue light, When you and I face each other, Stained in it, All one's feelings, It's an infinite range, In my world, Most dazzling,The absolute value of you, My my IDEA." These lines seem to be talking about Taemin's fans. SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua blue, so the blue light you see in the MV and the blue light he talks about in the lyrics of "Idea," makes me think he is referring to the impact and influence the fans have had on everything he has done in his career. And although he loves and appreciates us, it has not come without a few sacrifices and negative aspects as well. The mutual love and respect between Taemin and the fans also has added a lot of extra pressure on him because he always wants to give people his absolute best and he is constantly trying to live up to an impossible standard of self-imposed flawlessness. So with every release from this album, the concept was designed to be darker than the last. In "2 Kids" he was emotionally and physically beating himself up with regrets and in "Criminal" he was living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed to the point he was suffering from stockholm syndrome; he fell in love with the person/criminal (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is essentially inflicting all the pain and suffering on him. So, in other words, even though you are being abused by that person (possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself as he pushes himself in his pursuit of perfection) he still can't help but love the criminal (i.e. his career) and allow them/it to continue to cause him to suffer, etc. :D "Idea" takes the theme one step further, and says that even though it was my idea and my plan to live this life, nothing comes without a price, and because of that self-inflicted need to be flawless, any chance of being average or living a regular life is pretty much dead. Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. The thing that he hates the most is when people assume he has had it easy because he is part of a big and powerful company and he is so naturally talented. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Fun fact: The female voice you hear in "Idea " is BoA. She is a solo artist also under SM Entertainment, and she is Taemin's highly respected senior who debuted with SM in 2000 at the age of 13 and, now after 20 years, she is known as one of the senior-most members of the industry. BoA is legend. To see what kind of influence BoA has had on the industry and why it is so fitting that she was included on this song, check out her recent "202020" documentary. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in these MVs, just wait until you see his dance practice videos for "Criminal" and "Idea." You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level. Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years, as you see with "Criminal" and "Idea," he has infused those popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him.
