Haley’s “Creep” story is a one in a billion story of serendipity, you could almost say the timing & opportunity aligning started from her time on Idol. She tried out for Season 9 (9 is Haleys ‘lucky’ number, her birthday 9/9/1990) but was rejected by a Simon Cowell who some say sabotaged Idol’s season on his way out to start X-Factor. Producers asked her to return for Season 10, the first season without Cowell. Haley was basically cast as ‘cannon fodder’ appearing in the bottom 3 at least 3 times, but as the season went on & contestants got eliminated, Haley’s fan base grew stronger, becoming a threat to the two 15 year old country singers the show was obviously behind. Haley ended up finishing 3rd after the two favorites. Her fan base was so large at that point, we (Haliens) were listed among the largest of Idol fan bases. Haley signed with Interscope after the season & they allowed her to have unprecedented input into her debut album, Haley writing 9 of the 10 songs. Unfortunately, Haley got caught up in a management upheaval at Interscope that saw almost 40 acts dropped, including Haley. She had already assembled her touring band when the news broke. Many have conjectured this was a defining event that would influence her career & her opinion on Labels going forward. Haley went ‘radio silent’ after being dropped for awhile, having never been a fan of social media. Eventually, her Season 10 Idol buddy, Casey Abrams started drawing her out to perform small gigs with him, getting her back into the swing of things. It would happen that around that time, PMJs Scott Bradlee moved his creation to the west coast from the east. One of his west coast Musicians was Jacob Scesney, sax player and school friends with Casey. Jacob introduced Casey to Scott, then Casey invited Haley to a PMJ residency, after which Haley also became a member of PMJ. (Coincidentally Haley & Casey debuted their cover of “All About That Bass” at a small LA venue a few months before they both joined PMJ then performed that song in PMJ’s video, 2nd most viewed after “Creep”. Less than a month after Haley’s PMJ debut cover, “Habits”, Haley debuted with PMJ on their 2015 European tour in Berlin. During the next week’s shows on the road, Haley asked Scott if she could do PMJ’s Creep cover (he’d already done the cover with another singer a month before. The reaction to that first Creep performance in Lyon, France, convinced Scott to do something he’d never done before, re-do a cover of songs he’d already covered, Creep & All About that Bass, numbers one & two most viewed video on his channel. On that day off in Switzerland, Scott tweeted about a meteor over Europe as they went to a studio in Zurich. “Creep” was the last of 3 videos they recorded. After Haley’s first try, she told Scott that she wasn’t feeling 100% from all the traveling & maybe she should go again. Scott told her, no need, it was perfect. Scott wrote about it in his book. The meeting of Haley & PMJ blew both into the strata’s Creep went viral and suddenly creep covers on RU-vid became abundant. Haley has since repeated that she’s proud of what she’s accomplished as an independent artist, that she’s willing to take the slow road to maintain control of her career & songs. Probably Haley’s unwillingness to give up control to sign a label deal is the biggest reason she’s not more well known, but it’s really about priorities. 12+ years later, she’s scored a platinum single (“Can’t Help Falling in Love” earned radio play from listeners request, won a Clio in advertising). Haley also has income streams from her publishing company syncing her songs for movies, commercials & sold to other artists. She’s done 5 seasons of voice over work on Netflix’ F is For Family & starred in a Robert Rodriguez Netflix Super Hero movie, “We Can Be Heroes” all as an independent artist, she also bought her folks a new home. So you see what her priorities are, fame being behind things like family, career in music, and not relying on others to control her career. I understand some fans are upset about this, but it’s been 12+ years, it’s her life and she seems perfectly fine about what she’s achieved independently. @@JustJimmyTV Haley is indeed a “Unicorn” that is, a rare creature in the entertainment industry who’s not motivated by money or fame. She’s said her goal wasn’t to necessarily win on idol as she knew at the very least it was exposure to grow a fan base, which with the growing of Twitter and social media at that time, was the perfect opportunity to choose to be an independent artist, the ability to reach her fans directly without the need of a label. PMJ & Creep was what got her attention of Wrigley’s gum who were working on a campaign but were looking for the perfect voice to do the Elvis cover they wanted to use. The commercial was so popular, it ran longer than intended, gained radio play from radio requests and not label payola, and Haley’s cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is now among the most popular songs played at weddings. But where she really shines is “live”. She just listed her first tour dates of 2024 and I’d highly recommend you experience her live, yourself ✌🏻

He and Lucy have also collaborated on a musical called Rosie which is due out in Londons West End either later this year or early next.
