Absolutely love these SOTC’s each year! Upset we are no longer Casio calculator buddies;( I like how the older you get the older the ages of your watches get!! To the point where the blacked out Squale sticks out like a sore thumb! I loved when you said you didn’t need to own a watch to still love it! One final thing!!!! NOT ANOTHER SPEEDY?!?!,?,???£(;;)?
Russell!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I read this in our voice. Thank you my friend. BTW, I will be in touch soon. I had a great idea and I think you will LOVE it. Talk soon, stay well. O&U! T.
I don't get the appeal of the carbon Squale. To me, any plastic watch (and if you don't know your materials, carbon fiber is 'carbon reinforced plastic', or CRP), just say Casio, no matter who makes it. Nothing wrong with Casio, I'm wearing a Duro as I type, but the look is very much after decades of G-Shocks and all their other plastic cased watches they've made since the 70s. I know that carbon Squale wasn't cheap to make, but it just cheap due to the materials. I'm curious to see how it survives in your collection in the coming year!
As someone who has over 80 watches, many of which rarely get any wrist time, I feel the need to cull my collection a bit. You have inspired me. Great collection TGV!
YESSSSSSS!! ONE OF THE BEST STAPLES OF THE YEAR! Thanks, TGV. Can’t wait to see how the collection has evolved this year. Onward and upward. All the best, my friend!
Wow when you said “don’t get offended when you see a watch you want that i have parted ways ” idk but I can’t put my finger on it. But that spoke to me on such a profound level like you know how I was feeling even tho I couldn’t describe it. Powerful
In the mid 90s when I served on submarines, I almost bought a Tudor sub, but I was talked out of it because it wasn’t a Rolex. Also, I was talked into a budget watch with very useful Indiglo due to the work environment on the submarine. Now, twenty-five years later, I think it is time to rectify that decision.
Time flies! Mid 90s is perhaps now (2024) closer to 30 years ago (not 25)! Yes - get the Tudor and enjoy! You (with your service) deserve it! Respect Sir!
This series has become like a holiday special for me over the years. You've worked your way into my cold Grinch heart -- this yearly SOTC is now like a Charlie Brown Christmas special at this point. Thanks again, as always, for all that you do. Cheers man
I have to say that when my watch interest started (start of 2022) I wasn't a fan of your channel ,at first it seemed boring and for "old guy" kinda vibe but after time (same thing with watch taste it constantly evolves and grows) I realized I was soo wrong! Now I watch every one of your videos to my morning coffee and its essential thing , I love the your passion for movies (also as a movie guy) and constant refferences etc. , I love the quality ,the classy feel of your videos which you bring spot on all the time.First I was looking for techincal things etc. now its all about opinions ,history ,experiences and storytelling ,all of the best things that watches carry with them and because of that you are in one of my favs watch channels! As soon as new video drops Im here so I hope you dont stop and keep going! Greetings from Poland mate ,"trzymaj się ! "
The very first mechanical watch that I had bought in years was the Seiko 5 SNK809, and it was because of your excellent reviews. I bought it in a year when money was tight at the holidays, but I was able to get a great watch at a decent price (49 dollars!) and I still have it. My own collection is modest but because of your videos I have so much more knowledge about watches and the hobby, and most of all I understand what it is to aspire to own grails, and even if I can't achieve that, I know that I am not alone, and not left out, in the journey. You have a fantastic way of relating to your audience and your videos are without equal. I look forward to what the new year holds for your hobby and your journey as well. Happy Holidays and hoping you make it to Japan!
Good evening TGV! That's the one we've all been waiting for! I'm really excited to see the state of your collection as of 2023. So I sit back, have a cool drink and enjoy the video! Have a great evening!
Hi TGV, It's always fun to see your SOTC each year. It's almost like a family album of watches. I still have all the watches that you inspired the purchases over the years. Please indulge me as I list them. Seiko Sarb033, Squale 1521, Glycine Combat Sub, Omega Speedmaster, Omega Seamaster, Rolex Explorer 1, Rolex Submariner. Thanks for inspiring those purchases over the years. My Best regards, John
Great video as always TGV, we should all completely appreciate your comments about your views not affecting the enjoyment of others! Have to say that I’m completely shell shocked that your gold AP has gone…that was always a joy to see on screen and I think my pick of your (old) collection. Looking forward to more content in 2024. Best, Richard
I never thought I'd see the day you would sell that Explorer. If I could ever afford a Rolex, it would be that one. (big Bond fan) I'm really impressed that you've halved your collection and I can't wait to see which Grand Seiko you end up with. Thanks for all your hard work and I hope to see Hugo at the premier of Godzilla Minus One!
Fantastic video as always TGV!!! I’m currently sitting at 16 watches. Most in the entry level ($500-$1.5K) and although I like the variety, I think I’ve become more familiar with my watch likes and dislikes and it’s time to start selling some off and move into the mid-tier/entry level luxury. Would love to pick up a Tudor next year as a gift to myself for my 30th birthday. We will see what next year brings 🙏🏽
I had a total of 18 watches last year around this time now I have 10. Sold a few & gave a few to family members as gifts for their birthdays this year. Makes me happy to see them wear the watches instead of them just sitting in my watch box. Everything is on the chopping block in 2024😂
I have always wondered what happened to your Wittanuer Skelton and the Pano Jellyfish. Do you still have them tucked away somewhere? That video inspired me to buy both of them, I'm real happy non yellowed Pano steal of a purchase hehe
Your good taste is as impressive as your knowledge of the channel. The Jelly is now a proud part my my wife's collection. I put a new battery in it just yesterday funnily enough. As for the Skeleton, I think I sold it a few years back. Great piece. Enjoy yours, thank you for the loyal support, it speaks volumes and is always appreciated. Best regards, TGV
TGV, once a year I provide this thank you. You were the one that got me started. It was the SNK809...it was so long ago that I got it for $42 with a discount of course. I am a "low level" collector with my best piece being a SARB 035. Anyway, my point is that I have sought and found my own "water level" with my collection much the same as what I think you have gone through with your collection. Well, thank you again for introducing me to the world of watches. I've never looked back.
I always look forward to your SOTC video! It's interesting to see how your preferences have developed considering how many watches you've tried out. Excited to see your grail watch and a new speedy in the collection next year!
Truly beautiful pieces, Tristano ❤. I have to say, I shall miss some of the watches that you have sold. I have always loved the diversity of your collection in terms of off-the-beaten-track pieces that opened my eyes to brands that I probably would never would have considered (a-lá Dan Henry and Squale). At least the Mighty Flighty and Mission Impossible are still around! 😊 Blessings and good health to you and yours for the festive season from Vancouver.🎄🇨🇦🏴🇮🇹
I have sold three watches and bought my first Nomos this year! Should arrive next monday. Wish you a blessed new year and many great watches to come. Have really enjoyed your content.
Cheers TGV! I Love your collection… I myself have had to cull down my collection significantly to fund my upcoming wedding next year. Oddly I find myself happier with a more modest collection and being able to give them all the proper wrist time they deserve. Wishing you a happy holidays TGV, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for next year!
Congratulations on consolidating your collection TGV! That Panerai Luminor is remarkable, its style is so appealing keeps that italian vive, love those indexes and numerals on the dial! Best regards, and keep that super objective!
Hey TGV, Because of one your original RU-vid videos about 7-8yrs ago I bought my first Seiko SKX. I appreciate your honesty and the fact you have never got involved with all the past and current RU-vid watch channel scandals. Currently enjoying my Fortis Aeromaster Chronograph and Seiko SPB143 both,Lovely !! Stay strong.
I have purchased two and almost 3 watches off your recommendation. And it will eventually be 3. I've also bought some EDC pieces that you have and I've gifted others. And I don't care if you still have them or not. I watch because I value your opinion. Great stuff TGV. As always.
I must confess I copied putting my 290 on the Casio calculator watch band and it has changed the experience completely, dare I say it more sleek and refined to slip under a cuff (yeah right😂) cheers to 2024 and the pursuit of your grail! Looking forward to seeing it!
Congrats on getting your collection to where you want it. Only you can still sound and look cool asking what year it is. I ask the same question, and I’m looked on as a lunatic…Looking forward to the Ranger Part Deux!
What a pleasure to hear and see someone who really knows their onions. Not only that, someone who can convey their knowledge and passion in such an eloquent and entertaining way. Grazie, Tristano. Keep on keeping on. Best. Mark.
I am down to 5 watches. 2 being casio beaters. My 3 "real" watches are Omega Speedmaster Schumacher 3518.50, Rolex 1500 date with radial dial and a Universal Genève White Shadow on a Gay Freres bracelet. Very happy.
TGV it has been almost a year since I checked your channel. I love your collection direction. From reducing the number to the Panerai to the presence of the seiko diver to your choice of the vintage diver to the Casios. You are not alone. I think we get there after years of collections and when our collections exceeds 20+. Wear them in good health our friend.
Absolutely commendable to have dropped the collection by so much! It has inspired me to REALLY look at my collection tomorrow and see what I can cut down.
It’s always pure joy when you release another video and this one is especially significant as you are well on your way to reducing and consolidating your collection. My favorites among those still in your collection are the navitimer, Willard, GP, Tudor Sub, and Casio DW-290. I’m excited to see what your final grail watch will be. Splendid collection indeed!🥃
I’ve been on a “watch fast” ever since I got my Tudor and it’s been around two years now. Before collecting watches I got hooked on fragrances to EDC and even vinyl art toys. Lately I’ve been amassing sneakers! It’s a curse! A curse I tell you!
Tristano, another brilliant video. But that was to be expected. Definitely much earlier this year on the SOTC. I was recently wondering how long we'd have to wait to see it, so I won't grumble at the timing. What a wonderful collection you have! It's a shame to see some of the greats leave the collection, but progress must be made. I went on somewhat of a purge in my own collection this year. Although my collection is far more budget than yours, it's certainly a liberating feeling, addition by subtraction even. Enjoy the rest of 2023 mate.
Amazing Collection! Best of all, we are fans of yours and we get to collect your state of the art work. Who knows maybe one day we might have all TGV collection. 😊
Another fascinating view of where you are going with your watch journey..... The Explorer may leave your collection, but I see you having to get another one.... Can't see you being without it. I have just purchased a 15 space watch box.... the plan is to cull the collection to fit the box!!!!
I’m desperately trying to reduce my collection. Right now, I’d be happy to get it down to 40 watches. Eventually 20 or less would be great. The struggle is real! 😮
It always brings a smile to my face when you bring out the Seiko Flightmaster. It's like an old friend, ever since I started watching your videos, the Flighty always pops up at some point, it's almost like a mascot of your channel at this point!
Mate, I love the "Don't need to own it to love it" bit of advice. So many great watches out there, that it's impossible to own them all. Really trying to apply this to my collection for the last 6 months or so. It's been a revelation! Thank you for perfectly summing up what I have been feeling. Cheers! Onwards & upward!
The TGV SOTC is now a firmly established tradition to look forward to. It didn't disappoint!! I have been doing some refining of my own collection. So far, no seller remorse at all. Of the new additions, I am mostly satisfied. The Grand Seiko may have to be exchanged for another. I went for the GMT, absolutely beautiful but I desire a GS with one of their inspiring dials.
What a collection, I am so happy to see the Panerai still getting so much love... So many great watches here TGV. The Seiko's are brilliant and I really do love the Squale's.. thanks for sharing.
10 years or so ago, I had the feeling that I had a complete collection. Including vintage watches from 4 generations of my family. I always kept the interest in watches... Then one day BAAM I was BACK IN:, it was a Chinese 1963 with the continued production of the Venus chronograph - Today I received a Farer World timer. I have a Tuseno Shellback on order- The Micro brands available today are fantastic.
I’ve sold 8 watches this summer leaving only 6 in my collection, recently got the deal of a lifetime and added 5 watches to my collection the same day… currently looking to get another for Christmas and after that I really wish to wait an entire year before moving the collection. My box never looked better and I wish to appreciate what I have been able to accomplish this year !
A pleasure like every year! I only have three left: - Rolex Explorer 214270 39mm - Seamaster Diver 300m White Dial - Panerai Radiomir Quaranta Very happy with it. Best Regards
Greetings, TGV. Having been overseas the past 3 weeks, I didn't get to watch your terrific SOTC video until today. Great show, but I was truly surprised to see that both the Hanhart 417ES and GS Omiwatari had left your collection; particularly the Hanhart, considering your obvious love and respect for the manufacture. Those particular cullings must have been difficult. Keep up the great work. Aloha, good man!
I get what you mean about appreciating something without having to own it. I just put my SARB033 up for sale after being the cornerstone of my collection for years. I just don't wear it anymore. Other watches and brands have taken my interest. I think it's good to allow yourself and your interests to grow and change. Respect and appreciate the things that gave you joy in the past, but always keep your mind open to new experiences. The more we allow ourselves and our tastes to change, the more confident we can be in our preferences going forward.
Been waiting on this one! This my 4th one now I’ve been here for. Thanks for another year of content TGV! And the MI Casio I got 2 years ago is my favorite Casio. Perfect workout/beater. Thanks for recommending that I got rid of my g shocks for it!
Ah my favourite video of the year, and what a beautiful collection again! I'm very excited to see your super grail next year, but I do have a suspicion as to which watch it is! I've set a few watch goals as well for the first time. I'm not going to reveal which watches yet, but the Squale Sub-39 marina blue is on the top of my list. It will be a tribute to this amazing channel! Enjoy your weekend TGV, and I can't wait for the next episode! Best regards, Mister Turtle Time
Thank you my friend, you will not be disappointed with the Sub-39, pure class choice my friend. I wish you the best for 2024! Best regards as always, T.
@@theurbangentryThanks TGV! Totally forgot that the SOTC is the last episode of the year. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, and best wishes for 2024!🍾🎉 Best regards, Mister Turtle Time🐢
Every year I look forward to these, have been following this voyage since 2015, and you never disappoint. If I hadn't bought a Shunbun and said I'm done and dusted for this year and the next, with my 22 pieces, I'd be tempted to send you a private message about that delightful Universal Geneve. They have been on my mind. For me, the white one does win over the blue elipse, but that's mostly because I find myself wearing quite a few white / silver / light dressy pieces this year. The Shunbun, Santos de Cartier, Excelsior Park, SBGW231, Max Bill mega solar, and King Seiko LE are all light-dialed sort of dressy pieces, and I seem to reach for nothing else. I do recognise the "one grail and then I'm out" state of mind. Mine's a Breguet 5157 in yellow gold.
Thanks for an enjoyable show. My current collection stands at 16. I don’t know why people get upset if you don’t like a particular watch. We’re all different & have different tastes. Not everyone I know, likes my watches or taste in watches. It’s perfectly ok. Look forward to your new additions & finding out what your grail is. Paul.
Absolutely beautiful and well rounded collection. Every watch you own is reflective of your taste, or an element of your interest. Each very different from the other. Bravo.
It’s always a pleasure when you share your evolution as an enthusiast in the metal, so to speak. Greatly appreciate the intent of consolidation as I look at my own collection and have to decide-sell a few, or buy another watch box…. I am, however, especially sad to see the Ripley Seiko depart your collection-and wish I’d known you were selling it! All the best, TGV!
Hey Tristano, Great end of the year video. I won't comment on the collection itself, but I do want to wish you all the best and that the planets align so that you can buy you grail in 2024. O&U!
I was fortunate enough to spend a week in Florence this year. We also went to Venice, Pisa, and spent a few days north of Como, in San Fidel Intelvi. We love the Italian alps.
