I recently purchased this bike (from Mike's) with the same groupset, and based on your tire width video I had them mount 32mm before they shipped it to me. I've had three rides on it so far running the suggested Silca tire pressures, and I must say I can't go back to 28mm now. It rides so smooth and love everything about this bike. Thanks for influencing the draining of my savings account Jeff!

The talk of sorter cranks is real. I went from 172.5 to 160 on my cranks recently based on my bike fit (also a normal sized Caucasian man at 5'9) and it has changed my riding. I gained almost 25 watts since then, and not just the cranks, but having the more efficient pedal stroke, and having more confidence in the corners is amazing. Hopefully I can video the first crit in our new series on Oahu in March 23rd, if I do it, to send to you.

What size tires are you using for racing?
@DrFlashburn
@DrFlashburn 6 месяцев назад
On tire size. Should you re-check your results? From what I've seen between Silca and the pros, their main goal is to ensure the tires are not wider than the rims for aero. They seem to check this religiously with calipers, disregarding whatever the manufacturers say, it's that important to them. Don't they usually run 28mm?

Hi Jeff, a have a review idea for you. The whole "gear" and "diminishing returns" subject has interesting for many of us. It is like an equation system with many variables that everyone has to solve intuitively for themselves. I guess you are a "numbers man" given you job. How about testing the impact of something (e.g. tires or top bike vs. bottom) for riders from different FTP brackets? If you could get riders at 200, 300 and 400 watts, the results would clearly show what matters for who. Then any review becomes many times more useful in a "this is how it matter for you" kind of way. What do you think?

If tires arent set in stone right now, try Challenge Criterium RS. For me much faster then GP5k (around 5% average speed), more grip and traction on the dry, worse in wet, insane comfort, probably grip and traction comes partly from tire adaptability to the ground. But insanly hard to fit or remove, at last on hooked wheels.

I don't know much about the brand's tyres themselves, but in general TT tyres don't have the same ability to corner and some can blow up on faster descents down to the high speeds. This could be the case of TT tyres designed for flat TTs, I am not sure what kind of tyres people use for hilly TTs, where they also hit super high speeds.

If it fits your head that sounds like a good option, I tried them on but they just didn't fit my head. Was it brand preference to have the riders be on the Soloist instead of the S5?
