It's kind of obvious you're not familiar with her channel she identifies with what she is, which means all aspects of herself including the African diasporic parts. it would make no sense for her to be disavowing her mother. It seems like your trying to make a point that isnt true here. Fortunately not all people who could try and pass as "more white" want to.

Dae W Greetings. Africans can easily spot out who is from the continent and who is part of the African diaspora, especially those who are mixed looking or simply look like they are from a different part of the world. Even Europeans and other people throughout the world will naturally inquire about someone’s background. I think the unease of anyone feeling irritated are those who are not aware of their mixed ancestry and they have no clue and they were brought up using socio political labels like “black”.

The Chinese Asian could be Malagasy. Some enslaved Africans were also taken from as far east Madagascar. You should have your mom take a test. She could be a quarter Euro since you have a high percentage of Euro DNA. What is your Maternal Haplogroup ? If its African, It could give you ball park of where in West Africa they are from. Im L1c1c and it goes back to the Fulani in Guinea Bissau. So it could definitely help.

Emily Van Heukelom Greetings. No test can ever do that. People have to combine traditional genealogical research with genetic testing. For instance, my mother and I tested but I have Iberian DNA and not my mother. I match two close Portuguese and Puerto Rican families. I surmise the connection is via my unknown paternal great grandmother. In Joy-el’ case, at least one of her parents have to take the test and then she has to study her cousin matches to see which are via her mother or father and learn about their ancestry and build her genealogical tree. As well she has to use chromosome painting to see how she matches cousins on particular chromosomes. Also, the test you are referring to is one line, the unbroken maternal line called mtDNA. Besides, the matrilineal line only accounts for 2% of a person’s total genome.

For anyone please dont say black when your skin color is not black/dark skin what so ever. I mean you could honestly say your African American or mixed but don’t go around saying delusional out of this world shit when your not black or do not have dark skin what so ever. Color is the reason why racism is happening and most lightskins don’t know what it’s like to have darkskin in this world. All I’m saying is stop calling y’all self black y’all only get the choice to say African American or mixed. Since when did light skins turn black ? Lightskins were never black that’s the reason. Y’all wanna call yak self black to make y’all look harder and official y’all ain’t no dark Africans or African Anericans walking on this world y’all some lightskins/whiteskins who are upset cus they have white/European blood in them. How bout y’all start connecting to y’all White side. It’ll honestly make y’all feel better because the only reasons why lightskins calling there self black is because they know they are not and want to be seen as black/dark.

I've done several of these tests and they are pretty good at a continental level, but you can get different results from a country specific level on each test. Over time they also change those countries of origin based on their updates to the tests. My highest percentage countries have change 4 times over the years. So, just know that they likely have the continents right, and general regions (i.e. West African), but country identification is still an evolving science.

Jessica Smith Greetings. I will surmise that Ethiopian DNA is likely statistical noise. If you have no known recent ancestors from Ethiopia, it is likely an error as no Ethiopians were enslaved and brought to the Americas during the So called Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. All genetic genealogists have warned people not to take their estimates seriously as this part of testing is the least reliable; on the other hand cousin matches are accurate and people should be studying their matches to confirm their ancestral makeup.

From a DNA standpoint, biracial exists on a spectrum: typically somewhere between 61% (African or European) to 39% (African or European), and all the combinations in between, like 57/43, 49/51, etc. Most biracial people, especially in the Americas, are rarely genetically 50/50. Just like most people who identify solely as black here in the Americas are rarely 100% sub-Saharan African. They're typically somewhere between 89%-64% (African) to 11%-36% (European). So, in fact, most of us are "mixed" but all of us are not "biracial." The African diaspora is quite beautiful in all its diversity.✊🏽

That's because most African Americans who've been here for several generations, especially if you can trace back to slavery has some mixture of white and black. So apparently the man (most likely) who was your great or great great grandfather may have been either italian or scottish (and probably other European mixtures.) Very few African Americans are 50/50 these days if their parentage is mixed, because the black parent is probably already mixed.

Antoinette Chevalier Greetings. Just to point out that “race” has nothing to do with DNA as race isn’t even a genetic, scientific or biological term. It is a socio political term. Western European enslavers invented human races to rationalize their crimes against humanity. All human beings have the same alleles (AGCT) and due to environmental pressures give rise to different frequency of genes which in turn give rise to the various population groups we see worldwide. All these commercial companies do is test a fraction of your genome to the reference panel groups. Nothing more and nothing less. By the way, the continent of Africa contains the most genetic diversity than all other continents combined.
@antoinettechevalier2453
@antoinettechevalier2453 3 года назад
001islandprincess I agree - I should have put “race” in scare quotes (as I usually do, actually). And also, I do think these DNA kits are mostly for fun & entertainment as they are truly working w a very limited database. I believe that if u want to know your ancestry in terms of lineage, then creating a family tree is the best way to do that - if possible. AncestryDNA is kind of cool in that regard, as it actually helps you to create a verifiable tree because they’ve digitized lots of stuff u can tap into = census information, birth/death certificates, military records, land transfers, marriage licenses, ship manifests, etc. And yes, “race” is definitely a social construct as evidenced in these records because u can see from plantation records of enslaved people that the column where “race” is supposed to be noted is obviously based upon the what the record-keeper observed as a phenotype.

@lisacox3750
@lisacox3750 3 года назад
Yes, "race" is a social construct. Yet, there is still biological differences between ethnic groups depending on where you grew up and the environment you grew up in. We can't deny this. There are reasons for why certain diseases and ailments affect certain ethnic groups over others. For example, black people by far are more likely to have sickle cell anemia. They still don't know exactly why this is. Black people are affected by regular anemia at rates much higher than other ethnic groups as well. You can do this with Asian ethnic groups and white ethnic groups...we are different because of the climate our ancestors came from. There were biological adaptions that came about over hundreds of years as the different groups traveled the globe.

Greetings. To my knowledge, no DNA company has ever spoken of race or posited they can provide you a “DNA level distinction of race” as race has nothing to do with DNA. Race is neither a biological, scientific or genetic term. It is a socio political term. However, it seems that the “average” layperson continues to inject “race” when all these companies do is provide estimates of your ancestral makeup. Nothing more and nothing less. Even genetic genealogists have argued that these companies do a disservice when they claim they can provide estimates of one’s ethnicities as no DNA test can tell you how your ancestors identified themselves. As I mentioned before, all these tests do is provide estimates of one’s ancestral makeup. That is the accurate terminology. Furthermore, based on my observation, the people who tend to be most “race” obsessed are Americans. But that is not surprising as the country was built on the worldview of “race” a socio political term. Also, there is nothing wrong with people wanting to know their ancestral makeup, you know where their ancestors likely came from if they have no clue and many people do genetic testing to connect with family.
@001islandprincess
@001islandprincess 3 года назад
@@lisacox3750 Greetings. Your comment is partially accurate and partially inaccurate. And so called black people are not the only people in the world who may get sickle cell anemia. Sickle cell anemia is prevalent in areas of the world where there is malaria. Therefore the incident rate of sickle cell anemia are prevalent in parts of India, Sicily and the Middle East. Conversely there are many regions in Africa where the incident rate of sickle cell anemia is lower. Also, it has been demonstrated that the continent of Africa contains the most genetic diversity than all other continents combined and European people are genetically closest to Africans whereas some population groups who phenotypically resemble Africans (e.g., the people from the Andaman Islands and some South Pacific islanders) are genetically farthest.

I was so against dna testing for a bit, self identity matters the most. Making assumptions towards someones appearance is a bit rude. But if I was to make a guess (like others in the comment section) I would have guessed European and Egyptian with minor mixes. Which are pale and brown identities. It is very interesting to see how people identify, I have a little bit of a darker pigmant than her and I identify as brown + mixed. Background of traits is important, but nothing can shape you like where you live/born, who raised you, and your cultural interests rather than what comes up on a dna kit. Self identity means the most out of anything. Though 60 percent may be european one might feel 80 percent european. If anyone is doing a dna kit also, remember that :)

Hunter gatherers and aborigines are two different groups. Hunter gatherers from my knowledge refers to the khoi San or San people found in Namibia, South Africa and some in Botswana.

Elisheba, these are my people San ( Khoi) that are classified by caucasians as hunter and gatherers, chile we are still being disrespected as if it was 1940. this is some fauna and flora type of shit. Proud grandson of a San grand dad.

Great video! You should get your Mom to test as well. You probably inherited 8% of your European from her. I'm about 80% Sub Saharan and between 17-18% European, 2.3% Southeast Asian and Native American so my kids probably got around 40% African from me, 7-8% European from me, 1% Southeast Asian/Native from me. Most African Americans Average about 20% European Ancestry. I've seen many with more and that's with two black parents. If she test you'll be able to see just what you inherited from her. My Mom tested so I was able to see that most of that 2.3% Southeast Asian and Native American came from her.

SolarSister there is no one else she could inherit it from so you can say it confidently 😁
@solarsister5228
@solarsister5228 3 года назад
@@annmariebusu9924There is someone else...her father. The reason I can't confidently say the totality of the 8% African DNA came from her mother is because I don't know what her father's ethnicity percentage is. It can't always be assumed that white people are 100% European. There are many white people who find out that they have 1-4 percent African ancestry when they test. If her Dad has any African ancestry she would inherit part of whatever he has. Her mother could have more European Ancestry and less African than I assume she does so that would also shift the numbers. Say her Dad is 98% European and 2% African, the DNA he passes would be 49% European and 1% African.
