don't know much about psytrance but i always enjoy seeing plaits creating unorthodox styles (i.e. not generative ambient lol). very tempted to get marbles now. your ability to explain is superb
How excited am I that someone is posting tutorials for psy and Goa trance for modular? Very excited. I'm not a DAW guy, but I've also found your DAW-based breakdowns of psy/Goa concepts very translatable to the modular world.
I use Braids/Peaks/Doepfer Multimode VCF for some crazy Psy-FX and classic Goa lines. At least nearly all algorithms are great for psy. :) I'm also looking for an Arturia Microfreak which has all the core features of Braids/Plaits and much more. Tip: My favourite Psy-Bass modules are Pico VCO (32 static Waveforms), Pico VCF 3 (24dB-Filter) and MFB Dual ADSR (very good EG for percs and basslines). Both Braids and Pico-Series are simply hard-wired and part of every new track. Thanks for the video, have fun!
Great demonstration of Plaits, what DIY kid do you have for your PLAITS? The black panel and the old school knobs would suit perfectly to my Roland 500 and AJH modules.
I always wondered can you do modular type of sounds ( i really don't know how to describe it better ) with vsts? And I don't think with like virtual modular modules but with things like phase plant, pigments 2 etc...
I definitely need to watch more of these videos. Great use for Plaits :) Thank you. Where does do all the drums come from? Is that your modular as well?
@@DashGlitch ahh ok I see, I've been wanting to invest in a midi to CV module to incorporate some daw action. Excellent stuff though, plaits was the first module I bought a few months back, wanted something beyond typical analog that I already have, I've yet to really dig in to it but it seems to really be worth more than what I paid, it's so versatile!
Your cheeky grin at 29:30 ish said it all man! Superb stuff… Love it! I’ve just got round ordering one of these blighters so I’m looking forward to some serious tweakagé ✌️🍄
I saw a Microfreak in your studio in one video. Do you know Plaits is open source code and Arturia used it on Microfreak? I did not know that and I currently have both haha.
Yes I do, sadly the don't have the percussion modes or the ability to switch modes with modulation, but it's one of my favourite bang-for-buck synths for sure
@@DashGlitch Are you sure? I thought you could modulate the Type knob. I haven't played with microfreak much lately but there was an update which gave more percussion sounds. I haven't explored it much since then. They're definitely different beasts in their own way. Anyway, good stuff. your 2nd patch was something I've never tried. Inspiring!
Among other source on the internet, there is an article on CDM about this situation. Arturia framed the whole thing as some kind of collaboration between Arturia and Émilie, which was ore like using Émelies original open source code in their product without giving proper credit. cdm.link/2019/01/arturia-microfreak/ and sonicstate.com/news/2019/01/26/namm-2019-mutable-instruments-responds-to-arturia-microfreak/
Yes, the tunings are not fixed in the modular realm, they can be quantized or not, depending on whether you have a module that supports it, the Ornament & Crime can do alternative tunings.
Fantastic video! Trying to emulate Kri Samadhi style module Goa and this came up. Subbed! Curious. What were you using for trh kick and bassline for this video?
