My grandpa passed and left me his fuji xt3 and I’ve been so lost until I stumbled across your channel. You have made a day to day iPhone photographer into amateur photography and still learning! Please never stop the videos!!!
I am an experienced photographer. I know the Fuji camera sd card slots need to be reset to "shoot without card"- OFF after a full reset. But, I do listen to what you say, so I checked it. It was ON! Thank you so much. I bought you a coffee.
This man is awesome... Every video is a peach and very informative and as we say in French :"incontournable et essentielle" Bravo I am a big fan thank you for all your marvelous work .
Great tip about turning shoot without SD card off. In a future firmware update I'd love an option for the camera to tell me if I have an SD card in the camera as I leave my house.......
And you just gave me a life saver. That setting shooting without an sd card, it was on the wrong setting on my XT3. Anyway, thank you and I changed all to your advice. Have a nice weekend.
There's also the "shoot without lens" setting. If you want to use a 3rd party lens this needs to be enabled as well, and it's not like with the SD: I assume you'll notice if you don't have a lens attached ;) On the Focus/Release priority... It depends. Recently I was out to photograph wildlife with the Fuji 100-400mm and a 2x teleconverter and this combo is a bit slow to focus. If I had the camera set to Release I would have gone home with a series of blurry birds because the camera would have shot no matter what. With the Focus priority, I may have missed a couple moments but I went home with 1000 shots perfectly in focus! Which caused another problem: selection, lol. But I managed and published a few in my recent video ;) And why shoot without SD is set to ON by default is beyond comprehension 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers.
What a superb channel this really is. I am a very experienced photographer who has had my fuji a couple of years and I learn something with every video.sir,I salute you
These are all good tips. Turns out my camera was already set up this way, bought it used-- but I must admit I did not know the "why" till just now. Thanks.
Sir, since I purchased the XT4 I’ve following you, and first: thank you ! Second: you are a great guy, very pleasant to watch your videos. You became an instant favorite
Chris, thank you for your enthusiasm and expertise and willingness to share. Keeps me coming back. Thank you for helping to make sense of the overly complicated world of modern cameras, Fuji cameras. My first was a Fujica ST-701 which I bought in high school in...1972 😲 I also enjoy the high speed off topic intro you often use. The one here makes me chuckle and wonder if at one time you worked for the cable company. Drilling holes in the floors and walls to run cable? But hey it looks like you were hugely successful. And truth be told I've done that too. The real world is not an episode of Ask This Old House, with experts coming over to take care of us. Keep up the good work!
That release/focus one I'm debatable on .. I guess all photographers have their own thoughts .. still thanks for the save on the sd card one 👍.. that's why I subscribe...
I used to live near USAF Bentwaters Air Base in the UK,famous for an Alien craft sighting in the 1980's.I was in the nearby forest with my camera and a strange humming sound broke the silence. The metal lid of the craft unscrewed slowly and suddenly two large eyes appeared - the size of donuts.Somehow they beckoned me into the craft and everything went dark for what seemed like an immeasurable eternity. When i awoke on the forest floor, curled up in the foetal position, smoke was still swirling from the scorched earth all around me.They had gone , yet i was unblemished but as my bleary eyes scanned my body i noticed with horror i had been rubber stamped with number 8's which covered my entire being. They have faded now but the experience has left me feeling completely.....alienated ! Thanks for the tips Chris and if they do ever return to this galaxy at least i can relax in the knowledge that there will be an SD card in the camera. Maybe you didn't planet but you're definitely a STAR my friend. Cosmic.Previously unseen footage of them i have finally decided to release after 40 years and i chose your channel to break it to the world Chris. This is IT ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TBRCZLzn5pM.html
Commenting purely for the most excellent song pick at the intro. But seriously, thank you for this channel, only just found it. It is absolutely amazing. From a recent convert of Sony.
I’ve moved through the Fuji system from the XT-2 up to the XT-4, and still learn something new all the time (mostly from you!). Thanks for making such informative, easy to understand, and to the point videos!
Hey Chris. I learn so much Fuji evrytime I tune In to your channel. Your enthusiasm helps to create an enjoyable, entertaining and therefore educational experience. Much appreciated.
Thanks. I bought my first ever Fuji (an XT4) at the beginning of March and your content was instrumental in making that decision. I’ve remained a subscriber ever since and have appreciated all the advice you’ve given. Keep going 👍🏻
I set AFC to focus and AFS to release on my XT2 as AFC can be a little slow and unreliable. I get much better results in AFC that way with most lenses. For street shooting, where you don't want to startle the subject, electronic shutter (silent) is better under most daytime lighting conditions unless the subject is moving very fast. For artificial light, mechanical is the way to go to prevent banding.
You're like a jolt of electricity! Or 5 cans of Red Bull... Now I can zip thru my day and get 100 things done! Great tips on the settings ( I did have the SD card one done) Thanks and have a great weekend too!
In video mode, the Autofocus will only work properly while recording. When I livestream, I have multiple cameras through a video switcher and I need the autofocus and don't want them to record to SD cards. Basically it's a mode that's useful for recording through hdmi. Love your channel!
Thanks for the video...just had to change one of the focus settings to release (forget why I set them differently). So helpful to go through your settings videos with camera in hand. As a hobbyist working 50-60hrs a week in a non-photography job, plus 2hrs a day commuting plus family plus yard maintenance plus....you get it...just haven't had time to go through the manual in detail. Besides...your videos are way more fun. 😃
Learn something every time ... The "Shoot without a Card" is scandalous! I discovered that my X-T2 was set to "On"! That got changed quickly. And the X-T20 does not even have that setting. I would suppose that has something to do with shooting tethered (which I have no clue about) ? Thanks again for another fun learning moment.
Your channel has helped me use my camera in ways I never even considered before, so thanks. You deserve all the break you can get. See you again soon and cheers!
Loved it. I actually found a use for the electronic shutter. When I was traveling and was in a cafe or a church, I could turn mute artificial volume and use electronic shutter to not disturb people and get my shot as well as fell more comfortable to do it knowing no ones is gona look at me funny.
Hi Chris, I'm following you since long and I have a xt4 too. Off the topic. Today I payed more attention to this yellow soft release on your shutter. I have one in red and I took out from the camera since I saw a yt video about how to shoot without this extension. It could be dangerous for the shutter and for the pictures cause without this soft release, might shoot with less shutter speed. Just try it. It's impressive.
Shooting without SD card: I consider this a "shop demo" setting, which is probably also why it's "on" by default! So that shops can easily demo you the camera, without having to fiddle with settings or put in an SD card. Indeed, this setting should be "off" forever when you actually own and use that camera!
@@PURE.EVIL. On your SD card perhaps? If you allow the camera to shoot without an SD card in it, your mind will indeed be the only place where your photos are stored.
Thanks for making a fast-Friday video in a busy and hectic week. I will be changing the shutter setting. I have gone to setting my ISO at 640 so the 400 DR works. Yesterday I ran into the 8000 issue. I had to lower the ISO to gain some breathing room. I have also been in situations recently where it can't shoot a bracketed shot because the shutter speed is at the max. This tip will solve those problems. Thanks. Have a great weekend!
Wow, thanks Chris! I have an XT-3 and an X100v and needed to make adjustments to both...and they were not set the same! High value video for me, love your channel.
I actually set my shutter to MS+ES based on the previous video of yours and it saved me in the exact scenario you gave. Was at the beach trying out my new Tokina 33mm 1.4. I was confused for a sec on some silent photos I took and realized I was pushing the shutter speed over 1/8000. Would have been more frustrating if I hadn't allowed the ES before going out.
@@pal2tech I especially like that you totally respect people's time and keep your tips and tutorials short and concise. A lot of RU-vidrs will post 20 minute videos that only contain about 2 minutes worth of valuable content.
Thank you for your tutorials about the Fuji cameras !!! I have a question. I have been using the Fuji XT3 for a couple of years and mostly a portrait photographer. All of a sudden it has just started "not" detecting the face consistently. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it doesn't. This is a big problem for me and I was wondering if you have had any problems or experience with that.
Well given the time it takes to copy 100 photos to smartphone via WiFi, i trim them to 3Megs. Full quality + RAW on PC, but trimmed on smartphone. It's sufficient for social network sharing ;)
The mechanical + electronic shutter is really the default for most camera owners, but the first two options about the SD card and release priority in AF-S mode are by no means.
Thank you. Very inspiring. Will try it in practise. The only thing I didn´t get. Why shooting without SD Card?. Where will the camera save my Pictures?
Hi Chris. I've been watching your channel for a long time now and I just want to thank you for being such an excellent presenter and a great resource for Fujifilm cameras. You're part of the reason I moved from Nikon to Fujifilm recently. I do have one comment on this video. It seems to me that some time ago you said an essential setting was "Shoot Without Lens" just in case you ever use a non-Fuji lens, otherwise the camera won't take pictures. Would that be number 4 of your list of must-have settings or have you taken a step back on this one? Thanks again for the immense amount of work you've put into all your great videos!
Hey Don!! Great to see you here!!! Yes, Shoot w/ Lens would definitely be #4. I didn't include it on the list just because... well, I FORGOT, LOL!!!!! 👍
Would you please get a GFX camera so you can start giving us tips on those cameras as well? I just got a 50r from someone that upgraded of course - and would love to get some help with it on your channel :)
Great tips as always! Thank you! Now I understand about the MS/ES choices, and the Shoot Without Card setting. I actually do have my camera set to Focus Release because as an amateur I am happy to get any kind of shot, not just in focus ones. Sometimes the slightly 'off' ones have captured the most interesting action. :)
Great channel! Hopefully you can make a video about X-T4 video shooting and any issues with exposure stepping, when lighting changes or more particularly when zooming the lens. I see youtube examples of exposure stepping and it concerns me, before buying this camera. Hopefully Fuji has smoothed out this problem or if it's a lens issue, then a fixed F-stop through the zoom range might be the required answer. Thanks for your expertise!
You can avoid exposure stepping only if you’ll buy a cinema zoom Fujinon MKX. All the rest are just photo zooms which are not meant to be used for zooming in video
@@galachiev Thanks for your info. I would have thought a lens like the 18-55 F2.8 that is 2.8 through the entire zoom range would avoid the stepping. I guess not.
Hi master. Fujifilm Release Priority is not exactly "ignore focus and boomm". That's a good test for you. This issue is my headache in Fuji cams, because no matter the setting is in "release priority", the cam will ever and ever and ever tries to get focus at least one time, and only after the internal command "error or success", it will release the shot. The Release Priority setting is like "Release even if the first focus check returns error". There are only 2 ways to get absolute Release Priority. 1. Manual focus: the half buttom there's no function and the shutter get only the release function. 2. Back buttom focus: same as the manual, the half pressed buttom there's no function, so, even if the scene is out of focus, the shutter buttom will release as a wel. With faster lenses, like the f/2 series, the time to "internal focus test" is very short and could be seems that the release priority is OK. But even with them, there's a fraction of time to run this focus test. In the slowest lenses, this settings sucks... There's no absolute "Release Priority". Just in time. I've tested in XT3, XT30, Pro2 and Pro3, with 16/2.8, 23/2 (very fast), 50/2 (the faster), 56/1.2 (very slow) and 18-55/2.8-4 (the slower). That is my bad experienced issue in my transition from Nikon DSLR to Fujifilm... In time, congrats for your channel. It's one of my favorites. Regards from Brazil.
These have been so helpful, thank you! I just got a X-T4 today and was adjusting setting in the movie mode and my IS MODE is greyed out. I cant even select it. Any idea how to fix this?
Another very useful video for us Fujifilm shooters. However, I sometimes set my X-T4 on electronic shutter only when I need the camera to be absolutely silent, like when shooting behind the scenes on film sets and music videos. Otherwise, M+E is default.
@@adamgladstone2989 Thank you! I'm not sure what to do though. Do I press the Menu button first and then what comes after that? I set the 'T' and then revolve the front wheel but nothing shows anywhere on the screen.
I shoot in MS only before. However, I found my xt3 have shutter shock. 56mm with 1/160 still got blur picture. After changing to EF, the blur has gone. Right now I shoot with EF+MS+ES. It works really great. I suggest to give EF a try~
Thx a lot! But: No, shoot at focus always ON. So you can press through and the x makes it, no halfpress. And You forget „Boost“ ON and forget. No bad AF-C after that.
