I can't complain. I shot 300 with a 34 year old ball: My Fab Blue Hammer from 1988. There is a reason why the balls from that era last: the way they were poured and created. That, and how dependable that ball is is the reason why it has never left my bag since I bought it at age 14.
I still have the pearl King Cobra version. I use it for a spare ball and on the rare occasions that the lanes are so dry I can't stay right of the headpin.
My teammate has a old Black Knight urethane ball he has used since high school. 2 weeks ago, he rolled a 702 series, and then last week he shot 267 with the same ball. It's amazing what the old ball can do
Urethane bowling balls are great. These give an explosive hit effect on pins. I used to have one before my injury and I called it the red bomb. It tends to go straight and hooks after hitting the pocket. It was ok for my straight throw style. Thanks for the video.
As someone who shipped bowling equipment wholesale in the early 90s, the 2M in the serial number stands for the year and month the ball was made which would be December (I is not used) 1992. Still a great ball made by Columbia for AMF.
I bowled in high school (2004-2007) with a Columbia 300 Vector Two. It didn't look as pretty as the reactive balls of that day, but man I got some great scores with it and it was very reliable.
"Throw it in the dry, let it fly!" You just described my whole game. 😂 I love vintage urethane! I have a mint condition 1987 Brunswick Grey Rhino with simple label layout. This thing is deadly on drier lanes. You can see it in action on my channel, Video #141. This was really a great video Forrest. I totally enjoyed it. Thank you. More comparison vids would be cool. Different balls, types etc. Teach us some things. 😉
Had one and wife gave it away at a yard sale. Would love to have it back. It was my first ever bowling ball. Hard to believe it would be 30+ years again.
Man, awesome bowling. Great to have a nice old ball like that in your bag, especially when it works so well. You should really condition it, put new fingers in it and really get it setup so that you can use it in tournament play. That would be tremendous, and just so cool!
Cobra was one of my first proper bowling balls. My dad had it re-drilled and still uses it to this day. The lanes he uses it on have beaten the hell out of it. Gauges and grooves all over it.
My dad watched this today, then informed me his Cobra split in half a few years ago, so remember kids, balls aren't for life! I was quite impressed, between us we literally rolled a bowling ball until it broke.
Found my AMF Cobra in the basement yesterday. Though, mine has almost no paint on the lettering. Think I'll go and throw it for a game when I practice. lol 👍
So glad to see you are healthy again and you are throwing the ball fantastic! .. You are going to have a fantastic year this year .. I can see it coming! ... and yes, please do some how-to's .. I would absolutely LOVE that! .. especially if you can teach me really how to make adjustments as the lanes change. How to change feet & eyes and when to change balls. I get really confused with that sometimes. It didn't help that my league teammate last night was telling me some stuff and got into my head. I bowled back to back 200+ games (which is great for me) and then Patrick had to give me some "pointers" and got into my head, consequently I bowled a terrible game after that. Stupid me, I should have never listened to it, at least not during that league play. My bad, so stupid, hopefully I learned last night that I just need to block that stuff out during league, especially when I am scoring pretty well.
I think to give a true comparison you should plug and redrill the Cobra for your hand and add some surface to the Cobra. Say a 500 finish. Wouldn’t mind seeing the track lines on that Cobra with the way you were rolling over the thumb hole.
I had a new Cobra ( AMF ) when they first came out . Amletto use to throw one back in the day . Was a good ball till it hit heavy oil . Then i'd switch to my u-dot . Columbia use to make AMF's bowling balls .
I did some work with Mo around his last year with AMF. He was one smart dude. The two best balls I ever used were his AMF XS and his own MoRich Onslaught. In fact a friend of mine with a nearly identical hand borrowed my Onslaught once and threw his first ever 300 with it first game.
@@wingracer1614 Mo Pinel was the master of bowling innovation. Between AMF and Radical he made some truly revolutionary bowling balls, aswell as the strongest Asym pearl I've ever thrown (Incognito Pearl)
@@turtlejeremy6980 Don't forget Hammer and the original 3D Offset too. I was lucky enough to attend a few of his seminars back when I was in the biz. He had an uncanny ability to make physics that were way above my head make perfect sense.
hi, your spares are remarkable. As already mentioned, spares win. So it is a good idea to make a video with your spare system. It will be useful for all of us
OK ..... I quit bowling after the 2001-2002 season due to several reasons - not the least of which I was disgusted in how easy house conditions had become - both my scratch leagues were basically 'carry contests'. I competed on the Regional Tour for a few years (1986-87 in Eastern and in the mid 1990's in Southern) and I cashed and made the finals a few times, but not good enough to realize a profit after expenses, so I gave up on that. Anyway - after watching many of your videos (especially like you vs. Brittany ones) - part of me has had an urge to come out of retirement. I dug my old balls out of the closet and low and behold all of my reactive balls have cracked. But I have two Urethane balls still in great shape - my 1986 AMF Black Angle (which I used in my very first Regional Tournament when I qualified third for the finals) and the remake of the J.P. Brunswick LT-48 that I had drilled especially for a local house that had a 'sport shot' for a season or two. My thought was that these balls would be useless on today's conditions. But, after seeing this video - who knows?!
Bigger issue it’s hitting at least one hole.. that takes out a lot of the kick in the back (if any) EDIT: just got to the part where you said it hit the thumb
How about providing with some video footage of you and people with different playing styles attacking sport patterns? There are some who want to learn how to play on them. They can't learn from me because I play them a lot direct from you. The more playing styles to watch= more educated bowlers who wish to play on tournament patterns
Liked the video a lot butttttt you need a second video to be kind of fair. That Cobra needs to fit your hand properly and maybe it won't bobble down the lane lol. Also you need to clean up the surface on the cobra so they both might have the same sand surface on them. Now we would have the best comparison I think. Just my opinion. Good luck!
Fun vid Forrest. Great content. You should make a vid with Darrent Tang or someone to pull a bunch of people to your channel. Your vids are great its a shame so few people are subbed. Much love.
My dad has a really old nail uthreane and on basically any oil pattern it is crazy he is a lefty as well so the left side doesn’t get used much but he is great with it.
What causes you to decide when to move in and play that inside line. I’m a slow hook type and I really want to play that up 10 line and I can’t anymore….. do I need a 33 year old urethane ball😂
I have a 1989 Ebonite Gyro-Balanced urethane; got it at a PBA pro-am. Nice thing about urethane is it lasts forever. Forrest, yes I'd like a few instructional videos. In my opinion the most neglected instructional area is the thumb hole fit: How tight? How loose? Is a little squeeze good? If you don't squeeze, how does it stay on your hand in the backswing? Etc, etc. Thanks!
Their planty of ways to make a ball hook that doesn't wanna hook! u can use avalon pads or a clean spray called hook more by wow factor always works u and u can also resurface the ball to bring it back to life to its original box finish the ball was got 3 options
I happen to have a AMF Cobra and the Storm Pitch Black as well. The cover hardness on the Cobra is about 80 on the Shore D scale for hardness while the Pitch Black is closer to 74-76. I believe that is at least as big of a factor in the difference in hook potential.
@@ForrestKritzer ouch it can be fixed .. hope if there is some balls again ... hope you can considered to give sir ... im from philippines and i trying to learn more revs and stable release ... still learning
So are you going to re drill it to your span? How to video I want to see, (because I'm a woman) can your wife put together an arsenal for an oily 44 foot pattern?
jesus man it sounded like a flat spotted wheel on a railcar at 30 mph.....the thjmbhole was probably burned up from the friction....re drill it that ball hooked a ton back in the day....nothing hooks on the thumbhole parkway
