Lauryn, I think you are terrific. I love Taylor. I am a 73 year old Swifty. Glad to see you coming around. She is such a beautiful person who does amazing things. Example: Not on an album but please oh please listen to Ronan. I dare you to ever n ot love her again! T Thank you, Dear. You have a fan for as long as I breathe!
We all have our favorites ✨ As for criticism at the time honestly had more to do with being a beautiful young woman breaking barriers as a brilliant songwriter, multi instrumental musician, singer & performer that wasn't catering to male ideals and worse, singing from a woman's perspective that sometimes calls men out. Taylor is patriarchy's nightmare 😂
Red is THE taylor swift album in my opinion, not necessarily her best but it’s the album that best describes her as an artist if you aren’t familiar with her, it has the pop hits, the storytelling, the top notch lyricism, everything. Definitely her magnum opus
I’ve always said this, and Red (TV) solidifies my point. Lyrical excellence isn’t a question. Sound-wise, It has the country-pop-rock songs for Speak Now stans. It has the first Max Martin collaborations for people who prefer 1989’s pop sound. folklore and evermore’s parents, The Last Time and Sad Beautiful Tragic, are also in this album. It even has Stay Stay Stay for the 12 stans of ME! I guess reputation stans who love the dark pop sound may have a hard time connecting with it. However, I’ve seen a theory on Tumblr back in 2018 that the track order of reputation has lyrical parallels to Red’s track order (e.g. “And I’ll never be the same” - State of Grace, Red Track 1 // “I’m so very tame now, never be the same now” - …Ready for It? - reputation Track 1) because they are opposites- Red being a heartbreak album that looks at love in a fatalistic sense while reputation being a love song-filled album that looks at love as something to be protected, even from her own reputation. I think the two quintessential Taylor Swift albums to suggest to anyone who wants to know what she’s about are Red (TV) and The Tortured Poets Department.
22 became a new song to me when I recognized it as her rallying from that cursed 21st. Like party on girl. But the Manuscript made it touch anthemic exultation. When you felt shame and wanted to be 30 for an older man who mistreated you, the ability to celebrate being exactly your age, in all of its twentytwoness? Beautiful :)
FUN FACT: Everything Has Changed was mostly written on a trampoline when Ed was visiting Taylors house and she was like "want to see my trampoline" and brought the guitar with her by accident and while jumping was like "oh yeah how does this sound for a song" and its a fantastic song... this was the first song they had together, and they have been friends ever since!! that is why he was on End Game because that song is about how even with Keynes big reputation in 2017 she still had her friends with her and their support
Okay I had no idea about this but I love that Taylor has a trampolineand is so casual about it😁 Honestly, I want a trampoline too lol. Never grow up, Taylor!
@iZZZIL oh yeah! And the instrumental break between "turning 21" and "Time won't fly" perfectly matches the intro and outro instrumental to The Moment I Knew
And now she dates boys who are her own age, with dartboards on the back of their doors… she’s not trying to be thirty, she’s feeling exactly what she is, unashamedly 22 🤍
thank you SO much for appreciating “the last time” it’s my favorite on the album and everybody always disregards it. the harmonies are so beautiful and the way they are talking to each other through the whole song is incredible
As a member of the swiftie community, I think all of us could mutually agree that the 10 minute version of All Too Well is the original song in our minds now.
@@h64mziopwhaaat? I listen to the regular version most often, the 10 minute is too long and to slow for me 😭😭🫠🫠 its better in terms of lyrics obviously but the other one is more upbeat
reacts to "eyes open" and "safe & sound" are songs that are not on the album but are from the same era. I can even imagine you freaking out about safe & sound
Stay, Stay, Stay is the one of those few songs that has almost no love in the fandom. You aren’t alone in making that face. Last Time feels like it’s purposefully placed to make you forget what you just heard the track before. ‘Pallet cleanser’ is correct. Lol
@@hafizazan9664 I like it. Literally just commented how I don't dislike it nor do I hate it. It is really catchy and at times, it'll randomly play in my head lol.
You being like "omg not 22 🙄" and then dancing along thirty seconds later is such a mood. This is what Taylor refers to as one of her "glitter gel pen" songs. Basically upbeat hit singles that make you want to jump around. She has two other "pens" she categorizes her songs with which is a whole video by itself. Lol, but I definitely relate to your sentiment bc once you understand the depth of her lyricism, it's so hard to listen to the bubblegum pop tracks. 😂
If I have a 10 mins drive somewhere I play ATWTMV. Then if it’s 20 mins I play it twice lmaooo. I love it so much. I use it as a measure of time when I’m driving or traveling.
It’s so funny that you said this was sonically cohesive because the biggest criticism this album got was that it was not sonically cohesive so when she made 1989 she worked exclusively with just a few people to keep it cohesive.
I will die on this hill. The subject matter & content, the genre bending sounds. Her evolution into pop from country. I love red - cohesive (to me) haha
@@L4urynking I totally agree! And as you were saying the tracking is completely intentional. From track 1 to begin again (the full original album), sound and all, tells a complete story of meeting someone and having a tumultuous relationship and break up and finding hope again.
@@elizabethmarie8069 yeah but some songs aren't good where 1989 is bulletproff no skip but red has stay stay stay and the lucky one other are very good
This is the one many people thought she would get a second AOTY for (and it was nominated) but the criticism was that it ultimately wasn’t sonically cohesive enough with a foot in country and one in a pop rock space. It’s what motivated her to come back with a straight pop album (1989) which DID win. It’s why people will say ‘justice for RED’. The snub was felllllttttttt.
All Too Well original was considered to be THE ANTHEM of swifties, a masterpiece, her best written song. Then she released the 10 minute version, and it got even better. (Your fav verse got added) It's the swiftie anthem, and we all hold it in high regard. Personally I only listen to the long version at this point 😂
It's a BAWL-INDUCING-TEAR-JERKER of a song! Like, if I let myself be fully immersed into Jack's epic instrumental arrangement, and Taylor's masterful melody and lyrics (and her absolutely beautiful vocal interpretation, mind you...), I inevitably end up becoming a sobbing mess crying my snot out with my face signaling the name of the album.
As a Folklore stan, I could've guessed you would like Red. Red is my number 2, it also has a bunch of nostalgia for me because it came out when I was in my late teens 🥲
State of Grace is my absolute favorite Taylor song it just instantly pulls me into an actual movie and ATW10 is objectively Taylor’s magnum opus. Also Speak Now is Taylor’s most ‘rock’ album (entirely self-written btw) and my personal fav.
This is the first song she and Ed wrote together...on a trampoline. He was the opening act on her Red tour as well. They've been close friends ever since and she kind of helped him get together with his now wife.
45:02 they're really close friends, and they have 4 songs together. One on reputation, 2 on Red TV, and one on his record but that song connects to the Everything Has Changed MV
Watching your reaction to "The Last Time" brought me so much joy. It's such an underrated song! I adore Gary Lightbody and Snow Patrol (also criminally underrated) have been my favorite band since I was in high school back in the mid 2000s. I always love seeing people who have an immediate appreciation for this song and Gary's voice.
PLEASE watch the live version of "We are Never Getting Back Together" from the 1989 tour. THHHHEEEENNNNN, listen to "Haunted" from Speak Now TV - you won't be disappointed, I promise. Love your reactions and watching your Swiftie journey!
to answer your question, ATW10MV is like the definitive version among most swifties lmao I fully have not listened to the regular version since it came out. it could be because ATW was already my favourite Taylor song at that point and is truly a staple of the community, but when the ten minute version came out it became the only version most people listened to. idk when I listen to the standard version now it just feels like it's missing something. fr though I'm not joking when I say I would listen to it on loop for literal hours every day for months, it literally became a measurement of time with my friends like we would say "okay the store is only one ATW10MV away" and shit like that kjfhsjhfsdhfk
22 was so annoying when I was little but now that I become a swiftie I love it and I think is because it comes after all too well when she specifically talks about how her 21 birthday was shitty thanks to her ex and now she's turning 22 and having fun and being alone in the best way, is so good
Red was really a great era, the most taylor album ever if you will, it has a little bit of everything. I hated the criticism about it not being cohesive because that’s exactly what it was supposed to be, heartbreak is messy, different and all over the place and that glues it all together. Living this 12 years ago was amazing and getting to relive everything again with a more mature view is more amazing.
I'm a Reputation/Midnights/TTPD girlie but Red really is a solid album. Also I love how honest you are at your reactions! I binged all your Taylor reactions so far, they're so good. (And your hair's looking GREAT!)
What I enjoy most about being a Swiftie is the fact that you actually get into listening to music the same way you would aproach reading - track by track, album by album. You do have your stellar favourites, but you don't ever experience a dud. ❤
Red is the album that made me a Swiftie. It was considered her only true breakup album for years. It tells the story of her falling in love, being on and off again, finally breaking up with, healing from, and moving on from one specific guy, all while starting to grapple with her growing fame and the media's changing attitude toward her. It really is a masterpiece of an album. I can't even listen to All Too Well original anymore. It feels incomplete. And I listen to the 10 minute version a lot for it to be so long. It never gets old! Also the way I cackled at the jump cut from "I hate this song" to "Twenty-TWOOOOO!" Same tbh. 22 got SO overplayed in 2012 but now I love it. I also love it for the context. Her 21st birthday party was kinda ruined by her shitty boyfriend promising to be there and not showing, and most of the year she was 21 she was just sad. So 22 is a celebration of feeling happy again and finally being able to enjoy herself after all that. And...almost no one likes Stay Stay Stay. Her one true flop I fear. You're in good company. 😅
One thing I don’t like from new reactors is they kinda do the whole TVs and not really pay attention to how the original album was. So you stopping at begin again is sooo perfect!! Back then it was the perfect closer for RED as a whole.
You got some good advice with ending part one at begin again, that was the last song on the standard version of the original album. The next few songs at the beginning of part two are the bonus tracks for the deluxe album. And then you go into all of the vault tracks. I’m glad with you see what I see in the album because red is my favourite Taylor Swift album and I think it’s one of the most cohesive albums she has ever put out regardless of what the critics say.
Ed Sheeran opened on the Red Tour with Taylor. They are best friends. Ed says they talk several times a week easily. She connected him with Aaron and the last 2 albums Ed just put out (Divide and Autumn Variations) Aaron was the Executive producer. And like Taylor, he wrote to track with Aaron too. Ed did a whole article about how Taylor connected them, and how once he did, he couldn’t stop writing (this the extra album coming so soon after Divide) which is what Taylor has said about working Aaron, thus Evermore so soon after Folklore. Gotta love a music writer who inspires two of the biggest artists in the world to just write and write. 👍🏻
This is the album that made me a Swiftie! I was never into country and didn't give those albums a chance until much later in life. You like so many of my favorites! I Almost Do, The Last Time, Begin Again (All Too Well ten minute version goes without saying)
I hear you but if you had been following her since Debut, 1989 was a huge shift especially if you loved her slow country songs. I didn’t get it for a while. I’m glad she did that though because it opened room for her to be experimental. I love wondering what the genre will even be
@@lubalethudube186 i haven't been following her since debut because i was born on 2006 lmaoo😭😭 but i do love her country stuff more than her pop (speak now is my fav) that being said, 1989 is an amazing pop record with little to no skips
My favorites off this album are I almost do begin again sad BT the moment i knew comebck be here ❤️❤️❤️ also great reaction btw .. come back soon with the part two ❤️
I love that you reacted up until begin again cause that was the original frame of Red, outside of the bonus tracks and now the vault tracks. Red is such an underrated masterpiece, the tracklist going through every phase of grief... one of my favorites
This album is what made me a Swiftie! I was going through a terrible heartbreak and the song Red really resonated. State of Grace is my favorite. Many people consider Red to be Taylor’s Magnum Opus. I wouldn’t go that far considering her other work, but there’s something really special about it imo.
I didn’t like Taylor until I was 26 going through my first big heartbreak and this album totally changed my perspective on pop! I’ve never been a huge fan of Rep/1989 but what helped me with Rep was to watch the live versions of the songs, they’re SO incredible, same with rock versions of I knew you were trouble and we are never ever getting back together.
When you were like “Stay stay stay may be you guys’ favorite” I was like oh it’s nobody’s favorite. Maybe there are some swifties who are ok with it, but I don’t think it’s anyone’s most favorite lol You’re right, ATW10 sounds different than the original- the production is different, esp in the beginning. And imo the most intense/angry parts of the song are in the 10min version whereas the original is just more sad & reminiscing. Finally some love for The Last Time! The way their voices blend makes it her best sounding duet imo. And I love how from his POV, he’s hopeful and pleading with her like “this is the last time I’m showing up bc I promise it’ll work out this time” and from her POV, she’s hesitant from being heartbroken so many times so she’s almost threatening like “okay but this is the last time I let you back in, if you don’t put me first this time, we’re done” and it’s so good how the phrases can be flipped like that. It’s so underrated.
I died when you put stay stay stay as the outro because it really is so fitting for a 2014 RU-vid outro 😭😭 dw the majority of swifties dont like it either. But im so glad you love this album its one of my favorites!!! Some of her best writing to this day is on Red and the vault tracks are amazing. This album at the time was very much an innocent, wide eyed heartbreak album but in the recordings and the vault tracks she revisited those memories with her more mature understanding of the relationship and how toxic it was so you’re right in saying that atw10 seems more angry. I’m excited to see your reaction to speak now it has more of a punk rock influence. I loveee watching you become (almost) a swiftie and appreciating her songs. And yes, listening to the albums definitely puts the hits into context ie. 22 after the line about her 21st birthday and her saying “now you come around again and say..” in we are never getting back together after her saying “you call me up again” in atw…it just makes so much sense when you listen to the albums
yes red is THE breakup album!! most of the songs are about jake gyllenhaal but yeah some of the songs are debated on who they're about but either way the album is most known as her pure breakup album
if you like rocky taylor so much speak now has good rock songs also a rock band collab you should check it out and not the least its a whole self written album all 22 songs self written
I prefer All Too Well (10 minutes version) than the original version, because it helps me calm down, emotionally. Don't know how and why, but it is what did to me.
I never listen to the shorter “All Too Well” 😂 it is exclusively the 10 minute version in my playlists. Evermore is my favorite album but All Too Well 10 is my favorite song. Completely worthy of her hall of fame!
you should really watch 1989 world tour after doing 1989!! she does some rock versions of her songs and we are never ever getting back together rock version has some of her best vocals ever
I knew you were gonna hate Stay, Stay, Stay lmao. It’s actually one of my favs but only cause it’s just so fun and silly, I totally understand why people hate it. Also I am so glad you liked The Last Time, I feel like no one ever talks about it. It’s soooooo good
lmao the fact that you skipped stay stay stay is so funny and so relatable, it kinda grew on me and i learned not to take it seriously, but yeah it does give off that 5 minutes craft music vibe
To answer your question… when ATW10 came out I listened to it like everyday for three months straight 😂 I don’t really listen to the OG shorter version. Now that it’s been out a few years, I listen to ATW10 whenever I listen to Red TV which is every couple months. I do watch a lot of Taylor song reactions and this one inevitably hits someone’s first few when they begin their Taylor journey. It’s always entertaining to see how people feel about it! So glad you’re enjoying Red!!!
i think it's worth noting that begin again isn't just a random point to stop listening, but it's the last track of the original release of the album, and it's perfect for that: the original tracklist started with state of grace being an introduction to everything the album was gonna be about and also a warning ("love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right"), and after all the pain she was put through, the album ends on a positive note with begin again. it's a perfect epilogue and almost an open ending, storywise. it's kinda like evermore ending with the line "i had a feeling so peculiar this pain wouldn't be for evermore"
