This is the real defender not that new garbage they have out. Do not get rid of this truck...its priceless ; that is the best truck in the world period..Nice build
@@offtrackfamily What is the offset of the 16x8 wheels. Why 285/75r16(Open Open Country MT's are 33x11.6) on 16x8 wheels vs 255/85r16(Toyo Open Country MT's are 33.5x10.2) on 16x7. Is it on road handling and supporting the weight on soft terrain, or would 255/85r16 do good enough?
Have been watching your videos for a while now ,and you have a lot of passion, for your truck, and your tra els , a lot of work gone , into it ,main thing is all the enjoyment you get from it .
Fantastic. My wife and I are considering moving from two wheeled adventures to four. We have looked at many vehicles and the landrover always comes out as a favourite. Thank you for your very detailed and enjoyable presentation.
WHOA! You've combined some of my favorite things- overlanding & Jurassic Park 😜 Nice rig, great looking channel! Subbing ya now and can't wait to watch more of your videos🤙 -Josh
I love Defenders so much, would love to own one. I just can't imagine only having 122hp. That probably wouldn't work for me. Towing a trailer up in the Rockies, I can't have Jeeps passing me. This particular build is so awesome
Wow!!!! If you ever get a chance bring that over here to USA and spend a couple months roaming around all our public lands. You are completely set with that nice rig.
@@offtrackfamily if you come I'll meet you guys somewhere in my 80 Land Cruiser. There's just so much to see! Probably have to stay a couple years at least. 😁
Thank you for the walk around of your 110- Wow you have done a lot of work building a very well researched overland. Smart idea to up grade to better parts when OEM wear, saves or spreads out the costs- great job
Great video 👍 can’t believe how much you can fit inside a Land Rover. I’ve always thought of having a off road camper. And now i thing’k you’ve just made my mind up for me. Thank you. I’ve just subscribed to your channel. So I’m looking forward to watching more videos. Take care of yourself. 👍 . And stay safe. 🇬🇧🏴🙏🏻
Thanks for your nice comment! Hope that you will find the offroad camper of your dreams! Don't hesitate if you have more questions about our setup and stay tuned for more videos!
@@offtrackfamily thank you for your message. Now the journey begins. Just got to find a good condition land’y. To get on my way. Take care of yourself and your family 👍🙂 . Best regards, Lee from Bournemouth England 🏴 🙏🏻
Hello family !!! I'm discovering your videos and this one in particular is fantastic. We are also a family with a puma defender but from Spain, so it is very useful for us to choose the language of the subtitle. Thank you! It is very helpful that you comment on the brands of the accessories that you mount in the car. Keep it up !!!
I just found your channel and I'm glad I did! Just wanted to say your truck is really nice. You guys have done some great work to it. Good luck with it.
I also have a defender 110 2.4 2010 but mine is mostly original and with 48k so you have given me some great pointers on what I need to do to upgrade so I can do some overlanding, thank you so much
Thanks for your message! Very happy as it comes from a vehicle (land rover) mechanics & fellow RU-vidr 😊. Over 12 years sacrificed loads of time & a bit of money as most Defender & 4wd camper owners I think 🤔. Have you watched our maintenances and repairs videos?
Thanks! We never experimented it under -10. We rarely have -40 temps here in Switzerland. With -10 it's fine. No heater needed, only good sleeping bags. But if one day we can go to colder countries, we will probably upgrade it with a diesel heater like webasto or Eberschpacher. My husband is looking for the best place to install it. Canada is a dream for us! Welcome on our channel!
Great video. Do the modular rims come with a certificate, confirming load figures etc, which is necessary to keep the vehicle road legal in Germany. Wouldn't you mind, shedding some light on you mamaged to route the cables of the roof-lights inside the car.
Thanks! certificate for modular rims of 16x7 ET+10 and cable were routed from a hole in the wing next to the snorkel, along the snorkel, up to roof rack to not drill a hole in roof.
Wouaaa super vidéo il est vraiment bien équipé votre défender ça fait rêver un 4x4 comme ça j espère pouvoir équipé le mien comme ça dans le temps lol Continuer comme vous étes super 👍👍👍👍👍😜
My 90” is 1989 in year , took the under powered j19 out & gear box , put in a 300 Tdi & R380 gearbox & transfer box out of a disco, also rear axel , new callipers all round, vented up front... 2” lift with heavy duty springs , new shocks, new bulkhead, new rear crossmember, 3 new door , set of Bf muds 265/70/16 ... should have gone 285/75/16 😟 next time , Alfa Romeo seats , smaller steering wheel, new steering damper, wooden top dash made of Irish ☘️ Ash ... did my roof liner with the map 🗺 of the world , 1” thick wooden floor in the back ... & it’s in to get repainted on the 4th of January... marine blue & a black roof..... I know not cream , but I want mine to be different 😜 oh an a cast iron sign over my back door that says “ happy as a pig in shit “ that I really think is appropriate for my beautiful landy !
Thanks. It seems to be good! At this time we are using MSR pots and we are happy with it. Are you using Kelly Kettle kit? If yes you can show it on our facebook page offtrack family. It's dedicated for it.
@@offtrackfamily Hi guys, I've not used it yet because of this nuisance pandemic but my plan is to convert my 2011 forester into an overlanding vehicle to explore, not only my own country (UK) but also further afield. It can boil water far quicker than gas plus cook food also. When you get a moment look up the youtube videos. Keep up the great vlogs.
I like to see rigs that have some miles behind them. Tried and true. An older vehicle that has been used but well maintained says much about its owners . But ohh that weight! Do you have heat for the tent?
thanks! There's a specific video of all the costs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ucUuyw5wCmg.html but stay tuned for a new one later on as we are currently re-building it.
Hi guys excellent video... a question though why did you go with LSD setup on all differentials instead of full lockers? Is due to the fact that vehicle is being used in winter on tarmac? And what is your expierence with maintance intervals etc? Thank you again and continuing producing great content !
We know lsd setup are great for our use of the vehicle as we already had this before replaing them last year. We also prefer to have an only mechanical part to limit possible issues. Yes the lsd are really cool during winter time too :) are you asking for maintenance on diffs?
@@offtrackfamily thanks for reply much appreciated! I heard from few ppl wrongfully or rightfully that LSD clutches require replacement every 20k ... not sure what has your expierence been ? We do a lot of winter driving hence the concern on additional maintenance every year or so ...
Hi, great set-up and excellent presentation. Wouldn't you mind shedding some light on the 8x16 modulars, pls. Are these from Paddocks? To keep the truck road legal, I would need a kind of certification of durability etc. -at least by the manufacturer ( who ever?) or the TÜV f.e. By now, I did not find one. Regards Heinz
after 2 minutes, i feel like you watched Modified on the Ronny Dahl channel, because it seems to be the same structure of presentation. First Bar work and bash plates, then Light and Comms and so on.
Wow, a very comprehensive overland setup- but very expensive I imagine! In which country did you have most of the work done ? My last Defender was a 2009 Puma 90. I just love Landrover. Thanks for the tour of your vehicle! Kiwi Chris
Thanks for your message! In need a lot of money invested but fortunately over many years ;) Work was done either in Switzerland or France. Over the time we learnt a lot, so when we can do the job we do it ourselves. Check out the rest of the channel :) Cheers!
Interested in an additional video going into more depth on the subject of the limited slip differentials, and your thoughts on the difference it has made.
European fuel (petrol & diesel) are equivalent to about $15/gallon so rigs are set up to go longer and slower. As most people define Overlanding as the journey and enjoy the drive to get there. Slow down Americans take a page out of our (Hawaiians) book and 🤙 hang loose/go with the flow
Looks like you’ve invested a lot of time and money perfecting your fabulous vehicle. As you were showing us the underside around suspension mod’s etc. I noticed some “cable ties” wrapped around parts, couldn’t tell exactly what they were retaining but ties can fail more easily than we think and you wouldn’t realise until something important got compromised under there, just a thought....🤔
@@offtrackfamily no not personally but for instance a LPG conversion would not pass inspection with ties , steel clips or brackets required to pass, not trying to poke my nose in but being an Engineer with Design experience I tend to notice things maybe most don’t, not trying to be critical in any way, you have a fabulous vehicle 😊
We wanted to try the Nissan Patrol in 2009 before buying our LR but its utility version wasn't available in Switzerland anymore at that time. On top of that a friend had big problems with Nissan because the engine failed completely after only 60k km & Nissan didn't want to apply the warranty on this brand new vehicle. Understand we weren't to keen for that model anymore.
What is the overall weight when it is fully laden? and what is your fuel consumption? A Defender is much easier to improve than my twenty year old ML320! It would be interesting to see a budget analysis over the years you have had it!
Thanks for your message. Yes would be an interesting video doing a budget analysis. It's weight is near 3t & the fuel is about 11l per 100km, but of course this depends on the roads & speed. Consumes more when on highway at 120km/h.
Thanks for your message! You'll find our complete review here with the link to his website in the description: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-etlvVny0q7Q.html
I found that going from a Donaldson pre-cleaner to the Toyota mushroom top style one led to less dust making it to the air-filter on a Defender (Safari snorkel on 300Tdi). The Toyota style cap seems to spin out dust more effectively, as well as being a lot more compact and robust. It was only about $40AUD on eBay (from Malaysia), so you needn't spend big on a genuine item. Have you found any steering issues with the ATB on the front diff? I've heard that the Tru-Track is better suited to the front with a less noticeable effect on steering. I've got lockers front and back, which the 110 came with, but if I had to do it again, I'd go for ATBs/Tru Tracks (front and rear) for simplicity and optimal traction all the time. Thanks for your video tour.
Thanks for your feedback! Yes we also heard that Tru-Track was better. But a friend installed it in his 90 so the only way to be sure is to compare. We will see with time if it's reliable or not. About the steering, no difference at all from stock with the ATB. Don't hesitate to ask if you want to see specific things in our next vids.
