Its the price. Ireland had a different currency called Punt (Irish pound) & Pence. There were 3 types of ice cream cones: A child's size @ 0.25p, Adult Plain cone @ £0.60p with syrup @£0.85 and last but not least, the one with flake which was priced @ £0.99p. It remained at this price for nearly 10yrs during the '80s, upto the '90s. Kids would always ask for "the 0.99p one", then slang took its course, et voila! It happened right around the introduction of the Euro currency, coincidently.

Me and my family are looking to move to Ireland after we sell our house. We want to come their for our children, to have a safe and welcoming place to grow up. I am from New Zealand and my Wife is from Estonia. Our children were born in England (Where me and my wife met) New Zealand (Where we moved to) and Estonia (Where we live now). When we look at the sort of people we would want our children to be, the Irish represent a lot of those things, that is our reason to want to move there. That and it is a beautiful country. Love your videos! Keep up the great work both of you

I was always led to believe that the 99 Ice Cream Cone was named after the half-size flake. The Cadbury stock number for the box of half-size flakes ended in 99 In the trade, it was called an Ice Cream Cone with a 99. This then became known as a 99. The rest, as they say, is history
@mikehiggins4079
@mikehiggins4079 7 месяцев назад
There are tales that the 99 was invented in the 1800's or 1920's. The soft Ice Cream we know & love, used in Ice Cream Cones, was only developed in the late 1950's. Therefore what we know as a 99 has only been around since the 1960's

I believe the reason a lot of Irish Americans visit Ireland is go to the area where their ancestors came from. My ancestors came from County Cork.

As a croatian myself who's been few times in Irealand and drank with irish, irish can not drink as much as we from balkans. I also love rugby, Ireland fan, it is raw and looks very agressive, but it is also gentelman sport and fans behave and have fun with each others. It is beautiful sight. I was in Ireland in Octobre during World Cup and watching rugby match in pubs and drinking with irish is an experience evryone should have at least once. Adedendum: she said WHAAAAT about rakija! If she wasn't so cute I could have said a nasty word or two.

There´s this Blonde haired dude, very handsome, in his mid-30s, wife own´s an online Jewelry business, he´s got a 47 size shoe. Anyway, he owns the property that some mountain side ANCIENT inground Celtic dwelling resides and he allows tourists to walk the property for a donation. The site is located damn close to the ocean on the inner side of a mountain in DINGLE, I believe. It´s a large area and the archeological value of the place must be off the charts. Plus, to be able to walk it and enjoy it is amazing! Dude doesn´t have the typical Irish name like a Salad Dressing or the Muppet Show´s Swedish Chef noises, Mahcahawkaloogie or whatever. Think it was Dan, David or something. Great guy.

@@beaglaoich4418 you know what would have saved it, maybe still can? If someone with all the love in their heart for the language would do what the Spanish did in 700 AD, before Ireland existed. Make the language phonetic and possible to understand. English is shit and I feel dirty just speaking it. But Irish is so horrible it's own people hate it and have abandoned it. Only the government forcing it down the throats of children keep it in existence. Don't be proud of something dead. Resurrect it or bury it.

1. I always heard it used to cost 99p with the flake. 2. I don't watch American football but rugby is fun and tough and if I'm not mistaken has a more consistent pace? 3. Hiring a car can be quite good value and enables you to reach some hidden gems. 4. It must have got worse since I was out then. That sounds like English drinkers to me. Must be the youth. :p 5. It doesn't worry me that much but I have some friends who are a bit more scared and have shown me some of that kind of propoganda (not using that word negatively btw). I also know a lot of immigrants who have been in Direct Provision or homeless. a) Fear no. 1 is a lack of trust that immigration is being well-regulated enough. This is exacerbated when the media or politicians dismiss real concerns as false, racist, or fearmongering. As someone who has never voted for this government, I find myself making excuses for them a lot on the basis that they're only doing what their critics also do, pretending they never make mistakes. I think having an open dialogue about immigration regulation is important. Let the best of both sides work together without attacking the worst factions and ironically give them more ammo. b) Fear no. 2 is that there is a limit to capacity and we already have a homeless crisis. I've seen actions to house people recommended and ignored for years that were suddenly undertaken when the gov. wanted to be seen in good light by the world and take in Ukranians. I'm delighted we did, but it is a fact that both the native and migrants on our streets did not evoke the same response that has now been demonstrated as being possible all along. c) The next big fear is ghettoisation, especially by dumping lots of single males into isolated villages. Time will tell if this is justified and as a single male I'm on the fence but I can understand how more vulnerable people might feel and calling them racist as I saw our Taoiseach do is not fair or true. d.) Fear of the kind of extremist groups seen in England or other places, where crimes like throwing acid in the faces of women who cheat on their husbands or even who are the victims of sexual assault is overlooked by police due in part to not wishing to appear racist. e.) Actual racism. Some people are genuinely racist and will insert themselves into campaigns that tingle the racism-senses of ordinary decent folk. It is important not to jump to this conclusion or tar everyone with the same brush however. If reasonable people can openly address genuine concerns, the racists will be left without any sense of solidarity and support, their stupid opinions will be brought to light, and immigrants who make it through reasonable regulations will find themselves part of a genuinely warm, trusting and safe community instead of wasting away in Direct Provision for their papers to be processed, ending up homeless, or being an unwilling symptom of a racial tension created by issues left unaddressed because everyone keeps brushing them under the massive old carpet in the middle of Ireland's living room. 6. (Not 7! 😂) I live here lol. My American friends come because they have an ancestral connection. Others for study, language. A few for asylum reasons, some Ukranian, most African. Most others from Europe, some Greek, some Polish, most Romanian, come for jobs. 7. My stance on fake tan and makeup, and plastic surgery, hair transplants etc is that everyone looks their best as nature intended. 8. No idea about scratchcards. Bit of fun maybe.

@@Zero_059housing is a big problem here, the big issue is around bringing refugees in because a lot think it’s unfair and it’s “destroying” our culture-meanwhile they have mostly heavily British/american (anglosphere) influences.

@@beaglaoich4418 As an Irish man who was homeless from 2015-2019, I could discuss the personal and socioeconomic factors all day, but immigration is not really one of them. Many immigrants are homeless and still glad to be here and not back where they came from. The fact that a quarter of our political decision-makers are landlords and they value foreign investment from corporate powerhouses more than that everyday folk lead fulfilling lives is a much greater contributing factor, though far from the only one.

Love the street interview and would love to see more of that! 🗝🎶 The reason my Mum and I are coming to Ireland later this year, we come from an 'Irish settlement' ancestry in Australia and our town was originally named Belfast back in 1835. Originally a whale settlement, then within a few decades, free settlers coming here, escaping the great famine. 🤲 And an Irish settlement over here of course, spells potato farmers.😂 we live on an extinct volcano system and the soil here is amazing for spud growing😅.. Our district has adapted to first nation people and Irish heritage Pride. We have both ancient and settlement (or convict) history in our blood and a lot of it stems back to Ireland, moreso than england. I guess a lot of us feel the fiddle calling us home, in search of our ancestral roots.. Quite a few people enjoy the thought of having Viking ancestry too! Grins! 😂😂 My mum inherited a family heirloom handmade golden Celtic Cross necklace, from her great grandmother, born in Ireland Ellen Murtha 1841 in County Kildare. It's always in the back of my mind that somebody's ancestor handmade beautiful Celtic Cross necklace.. My mum has travelled over your way twice. This will be my first time. Mum is keen for the travel agency to organise our day today activity. I'm happy to do that, but would also be good to base ourselves somewhere for a couple of days (in the middle of all of that,) catch a few trains, or hire a car and drive ourselves to places that buses don't cater to.. Longford Granard, (& Ballinalee) and Kildare.. It feels ancestral, even though I belong to my ancestors of Australia as well. Ooops! Apologies for the rambling😂🧐

We are from Belgium, we are coming to Ireland now for 7 years. ( 2y covid not included). I come to Ireland with my familie in the summer to discover Ireland, this summer we are goiing to County Mayo, Sligo and Donegal. We do not like Hot weather like Spain. We love the welcomnes, the 4 saisons in 1 day. We feel safe there. Good pubfood. I also come to Ireland in the spring with my buddy's to fish on Pike. Our favorie places for us for the moment is County West-Cork and Kerry. One thing that is changed the last years that is the prices of the rentingcar. It use to be 500-600€ for a week. Now it is 3x that price. It's insane. Thank you listening. Good luck with the Channel. Slainty 💚

I’m sure there are hotels with immigrants but calling them invaders or occupation just makes you sound bad, to put it politely. And there’s no country on this planet which puts homeless and poor in hotels. Hotels are private property (mostly). As for tourist numbers, 7 million last year which is same as 2022. so no drop in numbers.
