My pup sometimes goes and lays in his crate while I’m watching TV. He also runs in there if his tummy is upset and he’s going to throw up. So I know it’s a place he goes to for comfort and to feel safe
good! my golden retriever hated it, no matter what I did, she hated it and cried and peed and pooed, so sad, we gave up , she roams free around the house now, never really understook why I was told to crate trainer her, she is a perfect dog as free as she is around the house.
I think it’s just the personality of the dog. My dog has learned to like his crate because he knows it’s his safe haven. He will go in when it’s time to sleep or when he doesn’t want to be bothered aka when I have to clean his paws or bathe him haha
It’s a safety issue. If you have a chewer, it can be unsafe to leave them loose while you’re out. They should also learn it as if they ever have to stay at the vet they will have to be crated, my dogs are also crated in my vehicle when we travel for all our safety.
We crate trained our dog from the beginning. He was used to the crate and our nightly rituals. When we felt he could be trusted not to pee in the house, we left the crate door opened....for a while we went through all of our rituals until he realized he was free to come and go as he pleased. We never had any accidents and he's trusted not to chew things up. Now, if we could only teach him noit to be a Houdini to escape the house to make friends at neighbor's BBQ's or little girl's tea parties!!!
I've been a dog owner my entire life. I've got two of very happy guys right now. I don't understand crate training. I don't understand why people do this.
My two year old Golden goes into her crate just to sleep. We don’t close the doors so she wanders a bit at night, but always ends up next to our bed waiting for us to wake up.
A lot of people don't understand what value a "crate" can have to a dog. It can represent their safe place. Wolves are den animals and a crate is certainly supposed to be a positive, safe environment to sleep in, use as a way to escape if they're feeling anxious and overall a general bed. They do not need to be locked up in the crate, although if you have a behaviorally challenged dog that is incapable of being safely unsupervised; crates are a great resource so long as you use positive reinforcement. Whereas some dogs are accustomed to crates and prefer them, some are not. It depends on what experiences they've had with them and how educated their owner is. People just are not knowledgeable and it's sad.
My 10 week old Boston Terrier puppy just won't stay in the crate without peeping or pooping...I'm so frustrated because I am going to have to leave her in something safe when I have to go out for a few hours. HELP !! I don't know what to do !!
My breeder gave us a blanket with his mom and sibling’s smell. We put the blanket in his crate and some toys inside. He likes the blanket. I also put treat in the crate sometimes.
Dogs should roam around free we have doggy doors my dogs cruise In and out all day they are very well behaved but once in a while they tear something up
